What our customers say about their holidays
Chris - Verified booking
We loved the Samphire apartment.
The facilities were great. The description was accurate though some really positives were left out - no mention eg of a dishwasher, Electric blinds not mentioned either in description and we almost didnât book the apartment because I was concerned thereâd be no privacy or screen from the sub etc. As it turned out the blinds were one of the best features. There was a really nice welcome pack in a lovely blue hessian bag and though I wouldnât book a holiday apt because of a welcome pack it wasnât mentioned either in description. Personally I love the minimal clean style but a couple of chairs in the main bedroom would be nice as well a chest of drawer in small bedroom. The apartment was perfect for our stay. The walk to Carbis Bay beach was short and lovely. Yes St Ives Road is busy but the description did warn of some traffic noise. We love Carbis Bay beach and now find it nicer than St Ives which has become very busy and almost a victim of its own success. Weâve been to St ives many times and driven through Carbis Bay but never actually stopped. In future Carbis Bay will be our destination. The Uno restaurant was a real gem and Carbis Bay hotel is very nice with the deli a great place to have lunch. The Sandy beach is perfect for families and swimming as itâs quite sheltered compared to other nearby beaches we visited. The whole Carbis Bay area is very clean and well kept so a real pleasure to spend a week here. Thank you

Beautifully maintained apartment, gorgeous high ceilings from a bygone era, furniture was very comfortable, especially the bed.
So important to have a comfortable bed when away from home. Lovely bathroom too, very spacious and clean. Good quality kitchen tools and equipment, the only thing I'd say was missing was a 'normal' frying pan rather than the wok styled pan. (We actually bring our own as we often find frying pans are not fit for use). A liner for the grill pan would have been appreciated, as it happens, we bring our own foil to do this with but some cottage owners do put a liner in the base of the grill pan. It was a real home from home as we spent all day Monday in the apartment as it was The Queen's funeral so a real test of homeliness. We also had to buy food to cook as there was nowhere open on Monday evening (due to Queen's funeral) so the grill and hob really did a great job. One extra dishwashing tablet would have been handy. The only thing we found 'odd' was the coat hook in the hallway - it must've been put up by a very tall man as my 6ft 2 hubby struggled to reach it and at 5ft 1 I had no chance! We liked the balcony too but didn't use it much. We rarely ever revisit the same place but if we were to revisit Ilfracombe we'd happily look to rent this apartment again. It feels spacious, homely and is very clean. Big tick!

Thank you very much for sharing your beautiful apartment.
The location is the best in the world! My father & I sailed in the Club Regatta for many years in the 70âs & 80âs & often used The Salcombe as our base. This was the first year we have come to the Town Regatta and the positioning to watch the fireworks was the best we could have asked for. We even joined in the light extravaganza & put LED lights on the balcony. The apartment is perfectly situated & presented with all the accoutrements necessary for a perfect stay. We wanted for nothing as it was so well equipped. 3 small points which could be considered: 1. Recommend double or triple glazing on the Fore Street side (or suggest ear plugs to guests) as the noise from people on the street was not compatible with sleep until after approx 2am 2. Both my father & I found the sofas rather messed with our backs as were low and soft. 3. To cater for 6 (we only had 4) the fridge could do with being a tad bigger as you canât get 2 litres of milk in there without using up half the fridge space. (These are not meant as criticisms as we managed ok but more ideas to make it 10/10) The apartment was truly delightful and we enjoyed our stay immensely. You have wonderful taste! Thank you

On the plus side, this is a modern, clean and broadly well equipped property with some thoughtful furnishing etc touches which help to make it feel like a home from home.
On the negative side, the WiFi was very slow and at evening peak usage times frequently non-existent (confirmed by the router flashing orange to indicate no internet connection). I do not think it acceptable today to advertise WiFi when its download speed varies between 0 and 2 Mbps. The seating in the lounge comprised a settee big enough for three people, an armchair, a foot stool and a bean bag. It is advertised as sleeping six people. I would not entertain trying to sit six people on that furniture - personally I would not book it for four people. There were just two of us and so it was OK. Whilst crockery, cutlery, etc. provisions were excellent, other niceties were lacking. I think this is the only property I can recall renting where a pint of milk was not provided. There was only enough liquid soap in the two bathrooms to last overnight. No tea towel was provided which is necessary even when there is a dishwasher and again has always been provided in every property I have ever booked in the past. For a 10 out of 10 rating from me, these small items would need to be provided, broadband speed increased to at least 20 Mbps and the property advertised for four, not six, people.

Really comfortable, modern and well appointed flat.
Bright and airy when windows are opened. Made the most of the fabulous sunny weather. Bus stops nearby, good bus service and fairly close to town. Close to supermarket, pubs and restaurants. The beach access is a bit steep but manageable and not alot you can do about that except get your trainers on Liked the doors onto the small balcony, open the doors to get fantastic views across the bay. My friend noted that there could be a mirror close to a socket in the smaller twin bedroom. Apart from that , no grumbles at all. Parking is easy and very handy. But the driveway is at least 2 metres wide. I was able to drive my car backwards up into the space with ease. This would have been very difficult, actually impossible if I had tried to do this with the 250cm width advertised. Needed to be said as this advertised miss measurement could put potential holiday tenants off. I just looked on google earth before booking to make sure I could take a slightly bigger car. Will book again and recommend to friends in the future.
