What our customers say about their holidays

Great Cottage.
Fantastic views, loved the privacy and the Herdwick Sheep. It was idyllic on the Saturday and Sunday with complete silence only interrupted by birds, it was so relaxing. But being a working farm there was some noise weekdays but it did not unduly disturb us. Great lounge area and cooking area. Wish I had brought some filtered coffee with me as there is a coffee machine. Wonderful walk in shower, really missed that when I got home. The only criticism I would make and is really a personal thing I guess and what we are used to when we stay at other venues was that not all of the bedrooms were made up. There are 4 bedrooms and only 2 adults stayed so the best 2 rooms were made up. I am used to all of the rooms being made up so the guests can choose their bedrooms, stripping the bed linen from those beds that have been slept in at the end of the stay, mattresses are a personal taste so it could be that a less luxurious room is chosen as the mattress is deemed to be more comfortable. The other thing that would be useful and we have had some issues at other venues is the Rubbish, until we get a National Recycling system in place it is difficult to know how to dispose of the rubbish so perhaps a more detailed explanation of what goes where could be provided. Why Cardboard and Paper is separated in Devon is beyond me! And a really positive thing about this cottage is that the lovely owners live next door. So if you do have an issue you can speak to them. Herdwick Cottage is very near to Tavistock, literally a 4 minute drive. So, we will almost certainly come here again to see relatives and friends. A friend of ours came to see us and she loved the place and will be looking to book this for a Family Reunion as their house is not large enough.

There is a lot about this house that is great (as previously noted) however for us, the constricted access and âparking spaceâ mean that we will NEVER return.
It is curious that the previous reviews have not made any reference to the to the horrendous access and parking issues with this house â a massive elephant in the room! The neighbours actually joked with us about their âSportâ of watching people trying to negotiate the ridiculously narrow entrance road and then access the even more ridiculous parking spot in their city dwellers cars. They in their small cars â dented and scratched with lost hub caps and damaged wheels trims drive like maniacs up the narrow streets as if it were a contest. We have a Volvo XC60 which leaves about a 1.5 cm gap on each side entering the road. You may then need to pass/negotiate scaffolding and obstructions on either side reducing the width still further as we did. When you eventually reach the property, you are further hampered by the parking spot being at a 90-degree angle to the narrow road with further restrictions on the opposite side of the road. It will probably take a perilous 10+ point turn to get your car into the parking space, if you are lucky. Ditto when you try to get out. The curbs and walls take no prisoners. If your vehicle is longer or wider than a Volvo XC60 you will need to park in the town, but only if you are up early enough to find a space â which are like hens teeth. If you have more than one car then it will be more problematic because you only have a permit for one vehicle and the restrictions mean that you canât stay for more than 4 hours. If you have to leave your car in town the walk up to the house is steep and so if you have any mobility/health issues it will be challenging. I repeat that there is lots about this house which is great.

A wonderful space both in and out, great to have use of a garage as had kayak and surfboards with us.
Very clean and lovely to arrive to makings for cream tea and a pint of milk. Smart TV allowed access to own entertainment channels which was nice on the evenings where we had no plans. Good basic provisions for clean comfortable stay downstairs. The master bedroom is a great size and deserves a bigger bed that and a little investment in better mattresses. The curtains are really inadequate for keeping light out, I would suggest some black out blinds in all rooms for those that prefer not to wake at first light on holiday. Sadly these are the two reasons we would not book again, or recommend despite such a lovely space. A medium size investment in a high quality King size or Super King size bed, good quality mattress and black out blinds would make this place an absolute perfect place to stay. I would also respectfully suggest binning the Polypropylene bath mat that simply spreads water around the bathroom floor, an absorbent cotton one would be so much better. Not a deal breaker but an honest observation! This honest review should not take away from a property that is clearly maintained and cleaned to a high standard each week, and none of the criticism is made without a desire to thank the owners on all other fronts.

This is a great house and as described.
On arrival, the garden and appearance were pleasant and tidy. The house was very clean and functional with everything you could need. The toys in the children's bunk room and trampoline in garden were an added bonus for our twins, especially my son who has autism and loves jumping and baby toys. The owners also left Easter treats and tulips which made us feel very welcome. So thank you. The beds could be more slightly more comfortable. My husband and I shared the twin room and one bed was quite lumpy and kept me awake. A mattress topper would probably help. The shower was leaking into the kitchen slightly during our stay, but am sure this will get sorted, we just felt bad as had to shower knowing it leaked and dripped onto kitchen window. The garden was nice to sit in with a cuppa although this house is on a modern housing estate, so no views as such, but pleasant enough. Aside from these minor things, we really enjoyed staying near to Falmouth and just a short walk (around 15 minutes) to swanpool which is a lovely little beach with cafe. We have family in the area so it was a perfect base for us, we would stay here again.

This is a well thought out holiday home and could easily manage eight adult guests in comfort.
The dining table was large enough to manage more than eight, as too could the crockery and utensils. The lounge was area great with three very large sofas and enough tables to hold nibbles and wine glasses. Our party of five found the bedrooms great, especially the top floor room, which was outstanding. The setting was incredible, with stunning views and was incredibly quiet, set well back from the road and Tavistock was five minutes down the road. We found it ideal for exploring Dartmoor and walking either on the moor or around Tavistock, this was despite the appalling weather we experienced, which did not diminish the holiday, especially as the home was so warm and cosy and the drying rack helped us to be ready for the next day. Our hosts Martin and Jo were helpful and informative, without being the least intrusive. We would highly recommend Hurdwick.
