What our customers say about their holidays
Amanda - Verified booking
I booked this lodge at quite short notice so I got it for a reduced price, under £600, rather than over £800, and ordinarily I wouldn't have been able to afford it.
It is a smart clean well-furnished lodge, beautiful kitchen and bathroom areas and a big L shaped sofa which was very comfortable. The double bedroom was also very comfortable but as is often the case in self catering accommodation, the single beds mattresses had definitely seen better days. I usually go on holiday with my sister so one of us has to use a single bed and they are invariably lumpen and saggy and this was no exception. We had a really relaxing stay - despite the size of the White Cross Bay site and the proximity to other lodges the lodge still felt very private. The site was quiet while we were there - perhaps in the height of the season it might be noisy. I didn 't really like the White Cross Bay site, the people staying on the site didn't seem to be mountain walkers or outdoorsy people, and there were quite a few random people wandering about who didn't look like holiday makers or maintenance. But the lodge was lovely. My only real gripe was the lack of any usable wifi - it was impossible to use the 'smart' tv as a smart tv, so no access to any streaming channels and there was no DVD player. Also, the decking areas need a bit of TLC. I would stay in this lodge again if it were on Burnside Park or Limefitt Park which both belong to the same company, I wouldn't personally stay on the White Cross Bay site again, but I would recommend the lodge.

This was exactly as described in the write up!
Even the stairs upto the apartment. This didn't put us off as the route to the main road and lakeside was literally a 3 minute walk! All the pubs, some with live music, and eateries you could ever want are just 5 minutes down the road toward the lakeside, where there are boat trips with fantastic views and other entertainment to keep you happy. A Co-op and Tesco extra are also on the main road for those little bits that you may need, although there is a welcome pack that is good when you arrive. Lots of everyday items available to use in the kitchen making breakfast by the window lovely. The rooms were a good size with plenty of storage. Quiet at night even though it's so close to the main areas. Only draw back was the Internet and no visible welcome advice booklet which we did eventually find. Have to say it was amazing for location and would suggest it to family and friends!

Idea place to stay in bowness the stairs werenât too bad but omg the smell!
When we first opened the door we thought maybe it hadnât been used for a while might need airing but unfortunately the two hand towels, the bath towels, the tea towels and the bedding all smelt disgusting the place itâs self was lovely besides the big black foot prints in the shower that needed to be cleaned off the smell was a really bad smell of dirty towels and bedding we thought maybe if we sprayed air fresheners so bought some but no by the second night I couldnât stand the smell so as you can imagine was very sleep deprived which ruined are stay you really need to use washing powder when washing thatâs if they had been washed lovely little place would of definitely stayed again if it wasnât for the smell and dirty floor throughout a real shame as itâs in an ideal spot for a lovely stay in bowness

Good location close to the Honeypot towns of Windemere and Ambleside and makes a good and very comfortable base for a visit to the Lake District.
Good walks can be found from the cottage itself with some satisfying views over Windemere by taking the footpath from the location (turn left after going through the gate at the entrance.) The cottage itself is well equipped with the basics for your own catering if you so wish and everything was very clean and tidy. Main road very busy most of the time (exceptional circumstances this year - the whole area was busier than usual) but if you fancy a walk into Ambleside it takes about 40 minutes and you won't have the hassle of finding and paying for a car parking space. Would recommend for a walking holiday in stunning scenery provided you don't mind the occasional shower! Ullswater is about a 30 minute drive, Buttermere an hour and ten minutes if you don't mind the last six miles on switchback roads.

A lovely cottage, clean, well equipped, good quality furnishings and in a good central location for getting around.
The cottage is part of a characterful complex of properties on the Merewood Estate, quiet and private, with well kept grounds. I would just mention that if, like me, guests are considering this property as being suitable for people with limited mobility, that the access to the shower is 10 inches high, with a drop down into the shower tray of 5 inches. Unfortunately this proved too difficult for me, but my husband said it was a lovely shower! The bed is comfortable, but the matress is very soft, with a noticable hollow on the right side, and in the middle, if one of us turned over, we landed in a heap in the middle! Altogether a very enjoyable stay at Apple Tree Cottage.
