What our customers say about their holidays

The lodge is described as child/dog friendly, but there is no gate on the decking.
There is a gate in the picture. We were not happy, as we have a golden retriever puppy. We booked this lodge as it was dog friendly and had a gate, so we could let him out on the decking. We texted the owner, to ask for help. We had a missed call from them, as we were walking the dog. They did not leave a message and made no attempt to contact us. They knew we were not happy. We ended up having to use some of the patio furniture to block the gap, so he could come out on the decking. This meant we did not have enough seats for us all to sit on the decking. We paid so much for this particular lodge, so we could all sit out together. The front door is quite difficult to lock. We ended up having to only use the patio doors when we went out. The couches are not comfortable at all. We had read other reviews saying this, but assumed the owners would have done something about it, as there were a lot of complaints. We found a wine glass with lipstick from previous guests. The cutlery wasn't very clean. We read a previous review saying they had received a welcome pack of food. This is not the case - you do get cleaning items, soap and shower gel. The decking is in desperate need of power washing, and the roof really needs cleaned. The lodge is a nice size. The main bedroom is very big. All of the beds are comfortable. The dining table is a lovely size. There are plenty of kitchen utensils etc for use. WiFi was never a problem. Initial contact was good, plenty of communication right up until arrival. Keys were easy to access. Just very disappointed with contact when we arrived, as owners did not seem to be interested at all.

Decking was freshly varnished with no warning - our dog slipped and crashed into the furniture and our daughter slipped, smashing her face against the decking and spending most of her holiday with a fat lip and bruised forehead.
We also felt as though we were then treading varnish through the property as the bottom of our feet felt tacky. The top step of the decking was loose and another trip hazard. The carpet divider between the door bedroom and it's en suite wasn't screwed down properly, meaning screws would pop up and the door wouldn't shut properly. The freezer needed de-icing as a build up of ice was preventing the door from shutting properly, and the handle on the freezer was broken. We only saw the hot tub maintenance man once, early in our stay and by the end of the week the water level was so low, the water was so cloudy and there was a build up of grime meaning we were unable to use the hot tub for the last two days of our stay. We were also disappointed to find no hand soap, which is quite a basic thing we've always been left on other lodge holidays. In addition, Parkdean did very little to manage kids running riot late at night (passed 11pm) chasing eachother and dogs with sticks, screaming and swearing as they did so. A real shame as the lodge was otherwise very homely and has a lot of potential if looked after properly. White Cross Bay is a great location, with decent access to the lake, as well as nearby towns. Would be happy to be contacted regarding our issues with the property and can provide photographic evidence if required.

Great lodge - would easily fit 6 adults, even in the smaller twin room as two bathrooms (one ensuite, one family) keeps it feeling spacious (even with a puppy!
) The overall decor is a little dated and choice of furniture in the lounge means that 6 adults are not completely comfortable for long periods without using dining chairs/floor but that did not bother us at all. The main bathroom toilet seemed to have a leak so there was significant water damage to the bathroom floor and skirtings but again this did not affect our stay at all. A modernising refurb overall would bring this place right up to top class. The hot-tub and outdoor space was brilliant for our group, and location of the lodge meant that the evenings were peaceful and quiet. Good kitchen and bathroom amenities - towels, varied cookwear, dining-wear, some cleaning products and a disposable BBQ (we didn't get a chance to use though!) The lodge is a short walk to the park bar/restaurant however I would not rely on this place for eating - service was quite slow and quality not fantastic. Worth driving or a 45 mins walk into the town. The lakeside marina & BBQ area was great for us to use our paddle-boards and kayaks, and had a great sunny afternoon paddling across the lake to a secluded beach. Will definitely be back if heading to the Lakes again.

After a 300 mile trip we walked into the lodge to a very strong musky smell, opening all the windows and doors aired the property, but the smell returned as soon as they were closed again.
Returning from days out we were greeted with this smell. Looking around the lodge we found the main bathroom toilet wasn't fixed; so moved when sat on. The 'jacuzzi' bath although still advertised has been replaced with a standard style tub. The basin drawer didn't close properly, along with 3 of the kitchen doors also. The floor in the kitchen has water damage and sinks when walked on, same in the bathroom. My wife freaked out when she found previous occupants hair in the bedroom drawers, and on the window sill. This combined with the smell made us feel dirty throughout our stay, so much so we left a few days early. The lodge can be described as 'tired'. We feel the advert photo's need updating to reflect its current appearance, inside and out as much has changed. The wifi is weak, drops out often and can't be used with the smart tv. The park itself is very nice, with great views, and access to the lake, with a nice bar grill onsite. A great base for exploring the area.

Lovely cottage with partial view of the lake from the living room.
Comfortable rooms, good shower/bathroom facilities, all within a few minutes' walk to the centre of Bowness. Had a leak from the dishwasher despite having not used it once, called the owner who saw to it immediately and sent someone over to fix a problem with one of the drain pipes. Slight inconvenience caused but good to see they tended to the problem promptly. Only improvement needed is the standard of cleaning, particularly the floor and the kitchen/living room area. The coffee table and sofas were dirty with sticky marks on them, the floor rug is filthy and just serves to collect dirt and dust and both the kitchen worktops and abinet handles were dirty. Floor looks dirty and I'd expect it to be washed and sanitised in between bookings. The hoover was so filthy that I simply could not use it! Not a 4 star standard of cleanliness but it could be with the right standards applied!
