What our customers say about their holidays

We enjoyed our stay at Daisy Cottage.
It was very clean and ideal for 2 people. The bed was comfy, and we slept really well, bath tub and shower were good, Kitchen is well stocked and the cottage was very warm and cosy. We wanted a quiet place and that is exactly what we got There were however some issues which we didnât like: There is a camera outside above the hot tub. We still used it however we were very aware of being spied on potentially. There is no mention of this in the description, despite it being mentioned in the guest book at the cottage. The sofa is comfy but far too low so this was an issue for me. When we arrived the toilet roll had nearly finished luckily we bought our own, as there are no shops within walking distance. Bathroom door did not close properly so we used the small fire extinguisher to keep is closed when in use. No bath/shower mat- however this was rectified when we called and additional towels were delivered 2 days later, still no bath mat so we used a towel. There was obviously a water leak at the cottage as there were water marks on the wall as you went upstairs and on the bedroom wall, which wasnât nice to look at. I would recommend the owners look at the feedback in the guest book. The camera is really off putting and had we had known that we would not have booked the cottage, or an explanation as to why itâs there would have been appreciated Itâs a lovely cottage just a few tweaks would have made it perfect.

The cottage was freezing when we arrived so we spent the first night in coats.
The welcome pack was nice and included ground coffee but no cafetiere or anything to make it with. I rang the number but they were no help. I did find a cocktail shaker with a dead fly in it though. The TV batteries were dead and no spares in the man drawer. There are CDs but no CD player, videos but no video player. There are candles dotted around but the instruction booklet said candles weren't allowed. The kitchen could have done with scissors and tongs. The downstairs shower room never got warm enough to use. Some of the curtains could have done with being a bit shorter so they would fit behind the radiators better. The cold water feed in the upstairs bathroom was worse than the hot water feed. There was a freezer but it was in an outside shed so probably wouldn't work in cold weather. The drive is constructed such that you scrape the bottom of the car on entering. I had to park in an unlit road. To get recycling instructions you had to type in a long URL to get to the county council information. I didn't bother. The cottage itself was fabulous. Uneven floors, small doors, cosy rooms; all quaint features you'd expect from a 17th century building. It is barely overlooked. The garden is huge. It's nice to see they've not sold it off. There's a lookout table and chairs at the highest point, but you have to avoid the dog pooh on the steps.

Our stay at Daisy Cottage over a number of days was lovely.
We have stayed in a number of various self-catering properties over the years, and whilst this stay was enjoyable - I would highly recommend that the owners check the feedback on this website and the guest book, as there are a number of items that still haven't been addressed. These include: 1) Bathroom door not shutting (the catch in the door is stuck). 2) Velux window not shutting fully upstairs (we had a look at this, and it appears to be one of the catches/locking mechanisms and therefore you hear a lot of traffic at night/early mornings). 3) Water marks on the walls everywhere on the top floor and stairwell (it looks like this was caused due to a previous leak which was resolved, but the walls were never repainted). 4) CCTV cameras above the hot tub and at the front of the property (the irony is that there is a link on Sykes Cottages website about how CCTV should be disclosed to guests - it is NOT in the listing - https://www.sykescottages.co.uk/blog/holiday-let-security-guide). 5) No hairdryer. 6) No bath mat (we had to use a towel). 7) Check in too late (2-3pm would have been better). 8) No blind/curtain on the window on the stairs. The hot tub was lovely, apart from one of the jets not working. The kitchen and downstairs area is well equipped. We would return again, if the issues above were resolved.

On arrival the first thing we did was was check the hot tub as that is the reason for booking daisy cottage.
.the hot tub! It was freezing cold. I tried ringing the contact person twice and got no response so I sent a text message and didnât receive a reply for over two hours! He said he would be out first thing the next morning to look at it and also said that we could put the outside tap on with the hose attached and keep hold of it in the hot tub, let it overflow till desired temperature was reached but it was far too late by the time he replied so we decided to try this the next day which was an absolute disaster! The pipe was so short and kept flying off the tap. We were extremely disappointed. It was 11:30 before anyone turned up the next morning and he didnât seem very interested and said it needed a part and would be back..hours later it still wasnât working so I contacted the person again asking if they knew what time it would be fixed and he said heâd come out at 5:30 as they couldnât figure out what was wrong with it. He came out and got it working but by this point weâd had two days without it and was only there for three days. I would really appreciate it if somebody could get back to me and take this seriously.

Fantastic experience!
Pictures do not do this place justice. The cottage is raised high above road level and set back from the road so as to make the hot tub location completely private and secluded. The road is quiet most of the day and nearly unused after around 7pm so you can enjoy the quiet of the countryside out on the terrace or in the tub. The hot tub is at the side of the house sitting in the corner of a wheat field. The farmers across the road keep a few horses and cows but no bad smells while we were there. Great customer service, speed and responses from Sykes call centre support and from the owners. Cottage accurately described. Easy car journey with main roads all the way. A nice afternoon tea shop on a farm 2 minutes walk down the road. The cottage is about 30 minutes drive from the south of the lakes. Nearly all A roads leading to the bottom of Windermere. We drove to Coninston Water which is much quieter than Windermere. Not many supermarkets save for a big Booths (think Waitrose) and a small Tesco express both in Ulverston which is the nearest substantial town. Perfect for a peaceful romantic break.
