What our customers say about their holidays

Helen and Richard have a very well equipped and spotlessly kept cottage.
It's obvious that they take great pride in the place. On arrival it was so welcoming to open the door to a lovely warm environment and then to find the welcome pack with goodies in as well was just uplifting after being on the road for over 5 hours! Helen introduced herself the next morning and instantly noticed we may have some difficulties navigating the doorstep as my partner is in a wheelchair. There is also steps from the parking area that sykes haven't mentioned that are quite steep and concrete, but there is an alternate route to the cottage by using the sloped driveway next to the property that leads to the pavement and then you just loop down to the where you park for west rein! Helen sourced a ramp and put that in place whilst we were out, which was above and beyond and much appreciated! The property inside is completely accessible and has heated stone flooring. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend. It's the perfect base to explore a wide expanse of the area, we went from the Dale's to Hadrians wall. We had some rainy days and some dry days but we only spent one full day in. Kindly provided are a compendium of games and some interesting jigsaws if you want to stay put. The cottage is fully equipped for all your needs.

Lovely apartment and great location.
We enjoyed exploring Barnard Castle and nice hikes in the surrounding area. Apartment was very clean & comfortable and had good facilities (pans, tea towels, etc.). In particular, nice river view and we enjoyed listening to the sound of the river. Didn't really notice the road noise that other reviewers mentioned. The view down to the cellar from the lounge is cool (you can get down there too)! The main issue was the poor internet. Smart TV and the Alexa device were effectively non-functional as a result. Don't come here if you want to be able to watch your favourite series or a movie in the evening, or come prepared with them pre-downloaded. We resorted to using our own mobile data to download things, but some networks won't have signal at the apartment (EE did but Vodafone didn't). Would not come here if expecting to do any remote working. If the owner upgrades the broadband then we could happily recommend others staying here.

We had a lovely stay.
It's in a beautiful village very quiet..... when we arrived the cottage was very chilly no hamper which I thought was unusual with it been a New Year stay .. the fridge/freezer was very small we had to leave our drink for our 4 nt stay outside luckily it was cold with been 4mile from shops I did take food with me but did struggle to fit what needed to go in the freezer compartment .. I read on the reviews that the couch was very low and I agree there was a lot of throws covering it and got very messy forever straightening them up and floor was lifting in many areas ... bedrooms and bathrooms were very tastefully done and the view of the castle from the 2nd bedroom was spectacular .... it may sound very negative but there was many positives it was a cosy cottage once we got the burner going .. the kitchen and bathrooms where very clean and beds very comfortable overall it was a lovely stay with my in laws making memories.

The house was good value and in a great location.
Parking was no issue. The sofa was very comfy, the kitchen was very well-equipped and the shower was good. The beds were a little hard, but this may be down to personal preference. Finishing touches were missing (peeling paint in places in the lounge, rough tile edgings on the kitchen, a few glasses not cleaned properly). The main issue which will prevent us coming back was the noise (and we understand that this is beyond the owners' control) - the main road outside was used as a drag-strip at night and the pub across the road ran karaoke until 1.30am on the Friday. All this disturbed me, the dog and meant we didn't get a decent sleep. Overall, a good property and with a little work could probably command a higher price, but the noise was just too much and we won't be returning for that reason alone.

Hi we were very surprised at the amount of stairs there were at this property.
34 in total, all of us are pensioners so we found it exhausting emptying the car when we first arrived. The flat itself was very nice and spacious with a well equipped kitchen with a lovely fridge freezer but alas no cupboard space for food. In the living room there were two settees but these were the type with scatter back cushions and they were very uncomfortable to say the least. My husband used the dining room chairs due to the settees making his back ache. The beds were nice and comfortable, and the rooms were large. It was quite hot while we were staying there and it was very difficult to open the windows and to get them to stay open. We all love Barnard Castle so we will definitely be going there again but we wonât be going to Ronnies Roost.
