What our customers say about their holidays

We had a lovely long weekend, two humans and a dog!
The place is beautifully decorated and has lots of lovely mod cons. What I particularly appreciated was how Natalia, the property owner went over and above to make us feel comfortable. Itâs a long drive from London and when we arrived I was delighted to find milk in the fridge, there was a bottle of bubbly and chocolates as we were her first holiday residents. The little caring touches like the dog treats and doggy bags were so thoughtful. The dishwasher was very welcome as it reduced friction. The hose is a short walk from Whitby town centre and a beautiful Sandy beach. We were lucky with the weather and had crispy cool but sunny days. There are lots of nice shops. We arrived on a Steam Punk weekend with lots of people dressing up and promonading around town. This may have something to do with Bram Stoler, the creator of Dracula being from this region. Lots of fish and chip shops so it was great to be able to cook at the house with nice ceramic pots and pans. It helped me manage my weight as there is a lot of yummy food to over indulge on by the seaside! Iâd never stayed in a house quite like this one where the main entrance is not on the street. The house is on quite a steep hill with limited free parking. So if youâre good with hill starts this is a great place to stay. Once again, thank you Natalia for all the caring comforts of home

Our first visit to the seaside town of Whitby was made perfect by staying at the lovely Monteva apartment.
A real home from home we always looked forward to returning here after our long days out walking, touring or fossil hunting!. The apartment was super clean, modern yet quirky with a really comfortable bed.All mod cons including dishwasher, washing machine, coffee machine with pods provided and lots of nice thoughtful little touches we discovered during our stay such as a selection of games to keep the kids entertained under the footstool!. Wifi was good and reliable and parking never an issue (we arrived over the famous Goth/steampunk weekend) with plenty of spaces available whenever we returned after trip out with the car. A quick 5 minute walk and you were in town with a nice Co-op to stock up with essentials for the days outings, plenty of pubs/restaurants,fish and chip shops etc,Whitby is a fascinating place to wander around with some stunning walks along the coastal paths and walkways heading out of town. We found plenty of fossils on the foreshore right side of the pier heading towards the abbey with some lovely Ammonites, sea glass and a small piece of Whitby Jet (confirmed). All in all a wonderful stay in a lovely apartment and we cant wait to return again and bring the grand kids next time for some fossil hunting adventures! Thank you Natalia for letting us stay at your lovely home!

Stayed here over the Goth weekend and wouldn’t stay again. It’s basic, a place to sleep but not much else. Lack of basic amenities, no toilet paper, no working heating, no WiFi, toilet flush takes many tries to work, hot tap barely worked. And it’s a fair walk to the co-op to get the basic necessities that are provided by most other cottages. Other people in our party stayed in a bigger cottage near the abbey which was cheaper and they provided a welcome basket containing basics like teabags, milk etc. so I’d look elsewhere if you’re staying in Whitby. Place was also not very clean. Black mould in the shower, dirty mirrors and hair all over the floors. Knelt down in the bedroom while unpacking and was covered in what I assume was dog hair. Also if you bring a pet, check under the wardrobe in the bedroom as there’s loads of dog toys stuck under there too. Located on a noisy street which can’t be helped but expect to be woken up by the boat yard opposite at 6am and you will hear every person who walks past through the night as the windows are single glazed. Minus the mould the shower is good though, very powerful. Overall, for the price there’s a lot better places to stay in Whitby so I would look elsewhere.

Overall we had a lovely stay here.
The cottage was clean, beds comfy and all the extras you would need like hand wash, toilet paper, dish cloth, washing up liquid etc. There were also fans provided for each bedroom which was a bonus in the heat. We stayed as a family of four with a 9 year old and 2 year old and one of the main reasons we booked Munday Cottage was because it was advertised that there was a play area located on the site which the cottage was on- West Bay holiday park. However on exploring the site on arrival we were met with a building site in place of the playground and an additional parking area where the tennis courts were advertised through the photos on Sykes website. When I contacted the owner they said that they had told Sykes to remove this inaccurate information but even while we were there these two features were still being advertised on their page. It really was disappointing and my son was disappointed too. The site itself too didn't have many people staying on it. I would say if you are a family with young children this probably isn't the place for you but as a couple or family with older children then it's a lovely quiet corner of the west of the island from which to explore.

We arrived to find we had no hot water or heating.
When I rang the owner she nonchalantly told me the boiler wasn't working, a plumber had been out the day before (Sunday) and a part was ordered, to arrive Tues/Wed. By Thurs AM, after little communication, I rang Sykes who gave the owner until 3pm to resolve the situation. The boiler was fixed shortly before 3. That, along with unhealthy looking pans, kettle, (photos sent to Sykes) shower cubicle in need of a good scrub/regrout and an uncomfortable old sofa, certainly put a dampener on our week. Then I came home to see the previous occupant had also had problems with the heating throughout his stay, with no hot water the last couple of days. Booking.com has a review from July, detailing similar problems. A one time offer of £109 compensation was offered by the owner which doesn't cover the 3 nights with no boiler. I have not yet received a response from Sykes as to how she came to this amount. There are other properties at this site which I am told are in excellent condition, and only a 20 minute walk from the quaint seaside village of Yarmouth which is worth a visit.
