What our customers say about their holidays

The lodge was so nice, and it was a lovely size.
The location was perfect, nice and quiet and not to far from the complex. We had a few drinks at the pub on site but there was no food service for 3 days. We did however manager to get breakfast the last morning and it was lovely. Me, my husband and son went swimming whilst there. It was £20 for the 3 of us. The only disappointment was the fridge not working properly. We had seen a previous review about the fridge not working properly so presumed that would have been rectified before we came how ever we soon discovered it hadn't been. We arrived on the Friday and had bought some shopping to go in the fridge, on the Saturday morning we discovered that things weren't as cold as they should be. We moved things around and decided to leave it and see if things improved. By the Sunday morning we realised that we needed to contact someone as the food wasnt cold. We spoke to Sykes who contacted the owner who came out straight away. He gave my son chocolate and our dog teddy some treats. He mentioned that he had spoken to his heating engineer who said there was a blockage of ice at the back of the fridge and his plan was to come the next day with his son and try and sort the problem. He had brought a new replacement fridge that we put in the living room. This was smaller than the original fridge so some of our food wouldn't fit. Due to the original fridge not working properly some of the food had to be binned, we had bought fresh meat and fruit. The next day the owner and his son came back, they took out the fridge and tried to melt the ice blockage using a hair dryer. This didn't work! The owner asked could we leave the fridge/ freezer off for 24 hrs to see if that helped, this wasnt ideal as it was an inconvenience. I had some food in the freezer but the owner said that should be OK as food takes a while to defrost. By 11pm the same night I had to turn the fridge/ freezer back on as the freezer was defrosting. I had ice, lolly ices and Pizzas in the freezer. It was the 1st day of the heat wave so I think that may be why it was defrosting so quick. In all fairness to the owner he tried to rectify the problem and he ended up ordering a new fridge however it couldn't be fitted till after we left. This was disappointing as it had been an inconvenience of our stay. Due to the other fridge being smaller it meant we had to shop more as there wasn't enough room to get food in at once. This would not deter me staying in the lodge again and I am already looking at dates we can go again.

Had a lovely week in this lodge, just a few minor issues.
You cannot drive to the lodge on arrival as there is a barrier, upon enquiring at the reception you are not given a map but told to take a photo of it which is stuck to the window and then you go to the lodge to collect the lodge key which has a fob on it which opens the barrier - so you go back to the reception area to collect your car and drive back, it isn't very far to the Sherwood area just a 5 minute walk. Incidentally unlike most other lodges on the park no 4 Sherwood has no sign on it which confused us at the start but if you find no. 3 follow the bend to the left and it's the green lodge there! The lodge has parking for 2 cars next to it and the decking is good with furniture so you can sit out and it is secure if you have your dog with you. Whilst we were there part of the decking on the front was replaced with glass panels which look nicer. Inside the fixtures and fittings all look new, there is a washing machine and a dishwasher and the bathroom & ensuite are a good size. The kitchen has a tall fridge/freezer and a big pantry which was really useful for storing food, however there was limited utensils, dishes etc so may be difficult if you are trying to cook for 6 people & there is also only 4 chairs at the table! The 2 bedrooms at the rear of the lodge have doors that do not shut properly as they are not fitted correctly. At the time of booking & I have double checked the listing before I wrote this, the information refers to taking advantage & having access to onsite facilities including the pool gym etc , however bookings through Sykes do not include passes which you have to purchase separately which are very expensive in my opinion, for 2 adults over 16 it costs £17 for a day pass, £45 for 3 days and £95 for a week, for a family of 2 adults & 2 kids it is £20/£56/£120 which I think is very expensive - but the listing should make it clear this is at an additional charge. We had drinks sat outside the restaurant but didn't dine there, if you have a dog there is a lovely pub called the Canal Turn in Carnforth but I would recommend you book first if you wish to sit inside although there are plenty of tables outside. Nearby are a Tesco/Booths & Aldi and the site is not far from Morecambe Bay or the Lake district. Nice quiet park even though it was the main summer holidays, would visit again though would choose a different lodge.

We are just back from 3 days at Casa Loma.
Communication with Sykes was excellent - we booked at short notice and our last-minute request for all the beds to be made up as doubles was processed. On arrival we received a warm welcome from Harry who was in the process of dropping off fans to the property due to the extremely hot weather. He also quickly organised a parasol for us at our request. The location of the house is unusual â it overlooks a lake in what was formerly a quarry. The lake is used by the neighbouring diving school which means that throughout the day there is the added interest of watching divers and swimmers. We took up the offer of borrowing wet suits at the diving centre and went swimming â a great experience, especially in the hot weather. The house is clean, spacious, comfortable and finished to a high standard. The cinema/games room is a bonus. The outdoor area is lovely and is equipped with a barbeque, patio heater and comfortable seating / dining furniture. There is no shortage of things to do in the local area but we spent a lot of time in and around the house. The accommodation is not cheap to rent but this is reflected in the standard of accommodation, the complementary access to lake swimming via the diving school and attention to detail such as the generous welcome pack. So, all in all we were very happy with our 3 days at Casa Loma and as well as being extremely relaxing we felt it was a bit out of the ordinary.

What a fantastic lodge!
Perfect location for visiting the lakes and only a few minutes from the M6. The lodge has everything you would need for a family to enjoy a holiday in the Lake District. The accommodation was very clean and tidy with all the facilities you need from a home from home. The site it is on is lovely with a great restaurant, bar and leisure centre. The staff are very helpful and really nice and the area is dog friendly including the restaurant and accommodation which is fantastic. The accommodation was really great and every bed room had its own tv which is always very useful when holidaying as a family. The kitchen had everything you need and there is a great dining and loving area to enjoy meals and times together when not out in the local area. The lodge is near to shops and local amenities so very easy to get around as the motorway and A6 are literally on your door step. The hosts had arranged a surprise for us on our arrival which was really nice and made us feel very welcome. Even though the weather was very bad when we stayed (nothing you would not expect in December in the lakes! The accommodation was extremely warm and inviting (perfect if you have older guests as we did!) The showers and bedrooms were great and the beds were very comfortable. All on al a fantastic lodge with everything a family needs. A+++. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend.

Property was lovely and clean.
However we encountered an issue with the oven which tripped the electrics. This has obviously been an ongoing issue as there was a sign advising not to use certain appliances at the same time as it would trip. As a consequence we could not cook any food. The owner reimbursed us for the cost of a takeaway. However the location meant we had to make unnecessary trips out as a family at additional cost as there wasnât anything nearby to eat. Weâd also purchased food to be cooked in the oven which was frozen and that had to be thrown away as we hadnât brought anything suitable to transport it home. Additional unnecessary cost and we were refunded £34 for one takeaway. We also had to have our stay interrupted by the maintenance team coming to measure for a new oven , appreciate they need to do this in order to fix it but it didnât help us feel settled and relaxed. Really disappointed as we had to completely change our plans and go out when the intention was to stay in and not travel (which I do for a living hence needing the break). Lodge and location are lovely, shame about the issue we encountered letting it down.
