What our customers say about their holidays
Vicki - Verified booking
The Rooftop is a superb property in a very convenient location.
We had a great time and would definitely return. A few small niggles which might seem really picky but hopefully is constructive. There were 3 of us staying and we were only provided with 3 sets of towels. I think an additional hand towel in each of the bathrooms should have been provided (bath mats were provided). We bought a couple to use during our stay. The towels that were provided also all had bleach marks on them. The towel ring in the downstairs bathroom was broken, as was the airer in the kitchen. The utensils in the kitchen werenât of great quality either, such as the peeler and pizza wheel which bent when using. The knives were also not very good but a sharpener was provided. The placemats and tables in the lounge/kitchen area could do with replacing as they werenât of a great standard. Some of the crockery was put away dirty so maybe this needs checking a bit more thoroughly. Food was left in the freezer too (ice lollies and garlic bread) which ought to have been removed. There were also condiments left in the cupboard which is fine but we threw away the mayonnaise as it should be refrigerated! The grill pan was filthy when we arrived (I did clean it during or stay). The main light in the twin room wasnât working either. Whilst all this might sound very negative, The Rooftop is a really lovely place to stay, extremely warm and comfortable. The beds were super comfy and the hot tub was amazing. The weather was pretty awful whilst we were there but it didnât matter as we were very happy relaxing in the apartment. The lounge upstairs is a real treat, huge and very comfortable for us. The apartment is spacious and well equipped, in a very convenient location to explore Buxton. We had tapas at Santiago, pasta at St Moritz and a delicious meal at Simply Thai.. all within a 2 minute walk of the apartment. You wouldnât go hungry in Buxton! All in all, I would certainly recommend it as a place to stay!

The perfect getaway.
As with every stay there are pros and cons. I'll start with the cons - And now the pros - even before check in communication with the host were very personal and well thought through. We've driven through the location many times, so we knew where we were going. Key pick up was easy, the receptionist was friendly and helpful, and we found our room easily enough. From the moment we opened the door we knew we were in for a real treat. The apartment is furnished to a high standard, with wonderful little details like heat protector for straighteners and a welcome pack. The living space has a very modern feel but is also very comfortable and cosy. The kitchen is well equipped with high quality appliances and accessories, we had everything you could possibly need. The bedroom is again very modern but extremely comfortable, the bed is like sleeping on a cloud. We both slept really soundly. There is ample space for clothing and luggage. The shower room again is finished to a high standard with all matching accessories. Fantastic shower, very powerful and the towels were lovely and soft. The balcony just adds that finishing touch. We had lovely weather so sitting outside with our morning cuppa was the icing on the cake. Really enjoyed our stay we left feeling thoroughly refreshed. We cannot recommend or rate this place highly enough we shall be returning customers.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay at The Rooftop in Buxton.
We are a family of five and found the accommodation spacious and very clean. The property was uncluttered, well-furnished, with excellent facilities. The owner lives very close by and proved to be warm, welcoming, attentive, and very helpful. The Rooftop, as one might expect, is accessed via two flights of stairs in addition to being split over two levels, which may not suit everyone's access needs. The ceilings are generally very high, although the upstairs rooms have sloped eaves and some head-bump hazards for the tall among us. The location in central Buxton was superb for access to food, sight-seeing, and shopping. The roads are busy, but night-time noise was not too bad. The lockable parking space that comes with the property is an excellent bonus. We greatly enjoyed the Rooftop's signature roof terrace, which has a dining table and hot tub. It's very private touch of luxury. It is possible to smell food cooking from the restaurant below, but it's not overwhelming or unwelcome. The flat was very comfortable - beds and sofas very soft, dining tables, chairs, and bar stools very practical. The kitchen was well-equipped and convenient. We found the flat, particularly the uppermost bedroom very warm, even with the thermostat set low, but it was not a problem. In short I would recommend the Rooftop as a good base to stay in to explore Buxton and The Peaks.

This is a very palatial apartment on the ground floor and was very comfortable and convenient, especially if you have a slight disability.
It is very close to the town centre and the Pavilion is just a 2 minutes away out the back gate and across the church yard. We would definitely go there again. There was plenty of good quality glasses, crockery and cutlery for 2 people but there was only basic cooking equipment which is ok if you want to eat out all the time. A few more pots and baking trays for example would be useful. Plenty of hanging space for coats etc but no wardrobe. There was also limited cleaning equipment and no vacuum or long handled broom or mop. A rack in the shower would also help especially if you have difficulty bending down in a smallish cubicle. The towels however were probable the best we have ever had even in a 5 star hotel. But to be fair this is an amazing place and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Disappointingly there were a number of problems - but there was a quick response after a call to Sykes Cottages. The shower was extremely dirty and blocked but the âA Teamâ came out the same day we complained leaving it spotless and complementary wine and cake, and apologised profusely. The dishwasher had a broken door although usable and the freezer was frozen solid and although the cleaners tried to defrost it, left it broken and still rather unusable. I am sure these problems will be resolved by now.

Church View is a rather grand looking apartment in an ideal location for exploring Buxton.
However, for us, a number of things really let it down. The kitchen was poorly equipped with only 2 saucepans, only one of which had a lid. The dishwasher door only partly opened, making it very difficult to load and unload. This had been mentioned by previous guests. There were leftover chips in the oven, and we had to fix the kettle before using it. The plastic liner from inside the lid plus the small screw, which holds it in place were in the bottom of it. There was 1 tea towel which also had to serve as an oven glove as there wasn't one which isn't ideal. The fridge although clean had a strong perfumy smell so we had to clean it again to try and iradicate the smell as it was tainting our food. As there isn't wardrobe we really think some hooks and a few coat hangers would be a good idea. The towels were good quality, but although there were 2 bath towels there was only 1 hand towel between the two of us. There were quite a few cobwebs some of which had obviously been there for some time, especially on the bedroom windows. We received a welcome pack of wine, milk, cakes, plus a few teabags and sachets of coffee, which was a nice touch.
