What our customers say about their holidays
Kate - Verified booking
Sadly wouldnât recommend Sykes as a holiday company as they cancelled my booking on the Friday before I was due to arrive on the Monday, hence the last-minute booking of P5 Whitfield.
Sykes were a nightmare to get hold of on the phone and the alternative recommendations they emailed me were in Wales and Scotland, despite P5 Whitfield and others still being available. A stressful time! P5 Whitfield itself was easy to find and there was good communication from the owners in regard to arrival. The house was warm when we checked in which was very welcome. The kitchen was well equipped for basic cooking, although a number of pieces of crockery felt sticky and maybe werenât completely clean. The accommodation was comfortable enough but did feel a little tired in places - frayed carpets, bed frames coming undone, and the mattresses felt as though they could do with an upgrade. The en-suite shower room was unusable for the first day or so as it was smelling rather unpleasant! The door had to kept closed to prevent the smell from impacting the bedroom too much. I alerted maintenance and they came in to the property on the second day and the smell did improve for a couple of days, but by the final evening it had reverted to being rather pungent again. The kitchen sink was also very slow to drain as the week went on and also began to smell a little, so potentially there is a bigger drains issue going on. All in all though this was a convenient place to stay for exploring the island and especially easy to walk into Yarmouth. The Needles are close by, as are lovely walks and views around the south of the island. We also hired bikes and enjoyed a gentle cycle with lots of wildlife spots, including birds of prey. An enjoyable week overall and I would stay again.

Fab-u-lous !
The Culver Down Manor exceeded all of our expectations. From the moment we were warmly met and shown around by the lovely house manager Sara, until the moment we regretfully closed the door for the last time, behind us, we had the most amazing weekend. The house is beautiful and spotlessly clean. It is evident that so much care and attention to detail of this period property has been made by the owners Laurence and Sharon. There is a wide choice of stunning bedrooms. I can certainly recommend bedroom 4 with en-suite facilities and panoramic views of the garden and the sea beyond. Everyone commented about how comfortable the beds were. You will be equally amazed by the communal facilities of the drawing room, dinning room and kitchen. I have never seen such beautiful stained glass windows in a house before. We were lucky enough with the weather to sit out and appreciate all that the garden has to offer. Without doubt our stay at the Culver Down Manor has created such wonderful memories I don’t think anyone in our party will ever forget. If only I could give it more than 5 stars I would.

A real privilege
When I was looking for somewhere to have my sixtieth birthday celebration, I came across this house, and from the description seemed perfect, but just too good to be true. But I can now say that not only did it live up to expectations, but amazingly exceeded them. The setting is stunning, in beautiful grounds on the the clifftop, but it is the house itself that is the star. Big light and airy rooms, with wonderful furnishings and fittings and decor, all in keeping with the Art Deco theme, made you feel you had stepped back into a bygone age. It felt a real privilege to be staying there, and trusted with this amazing place. The big dining room was a perfect setting for my birthday dinner, and the kitchen had everything you could possibly want to prepare and serve the meal. The owner was very helpful and responsive, and on his recommendation we had food for the meal supplied by Deli Tramezzini, which was great, and a cake from Wight Vintage, which was also wonderful. So it was very memorable weekend for us all, topped off by the lovely warm and sunny weather the whole time.

The property was filthy on arrival.
Exterior garden littered with old tissues/wipes and cigarette ash. The garden furniture had not been covered as requested and was covered with bird excrement. Inside was not very clean on floors and sills. Cooking utensils had not been cleaned since previoius occupation so we had to re wash them. Very poorly equipped so we could not cook meals for 10 people (our 3 families), not enough cooking bowls and not enough cups and glasses. This meant we had to eat out more than we expected to. Toilets had not been cleaned and still had brown stains and residue in them. We had to spend two half days of our holiday putting it right as the owner refused to accept it or to give us any compensation when Sykes took the problem to them with our photographs.
