What our customers say about their holidays
Terry - Verified booking
On arrival to the cottage we found it very easy to find and simple to gain entry via the key safe and information supplied.
The cottage was very clean and the view from the dining room on the ground floor was striking. The kitchen was compact but there was everything you could possibly want in terms of utensils, pots, pans, dish washer, washing machine and lots of crockery including various glasses. The stairs to the 1st floor are steep and narrow so be warned! The bathroom is excellent with a bath and a shower and is quite big for a cottage. The living room with TV and two sofas was brilliant, I said that the view from the dining room was striking but, from the living room and balcony it is awesome. The two bedrooms were spacious with excellent views and the beds extremely comfortable. I will say, you MUST read the description regarding the steep steps from the harbour. the first flight of 29 steps from street level is like a staircase followed by about 8 gently rising steps followed by about 8 more steep steps. Then there are more steps to the door and more again inside. We were a party of 60 somethings and managed fine but, please don't go here and complain about access as it is in the description. All in all the cottage is first class and the views are outstanding. Having said all of this if you have a car, the parking bay is only a few yards from the gate and apart from shopping it is quite feasible to spend an entire week sitting on the balcony (weather permitting of course). Would I recommend the property? You bet!

Location of the property is excellent, just behind the main street.
The road to the property is VERY narrow so if you have a big car like us be careful. The property is on 3 levels with the kitchen on the ground floor with the dining room. Bedrooms on the top floor have fantastic views across the harbour and are comfortable. The main issue we would say would be some parts of the cottage need updating or a very deep clean. The sofas are dirty, the heated towel rail in the bathroom is badly rusted at the bottom and the floor needs re-grouting as there are a lot of loose tiles. Window frames around the property were full of cobwebs and grime. Dining room on the ground floor needs laminate flooring not carpet, and needs brightening up as itâs a small area with very dark furniture in it. Kitchen is small but more than adequate with new cupboards and appliances which is a plus. The furniture on the balcony is old and rusted so we didnât use it which is a shame as it would be a superb place to sit on an evening and relax watching the boats come and go. Overall, this property could be so much better given some attention and thought. Location 10/10, cleanliness 3/10.

The cottage was beautifully and well equipped.
One of those rare finds where itâs like being in your own home, with every gadget, pan, spoon, glass, domestic and entertainment appliance. The beds were comfy and the towels big and fluffy. The location is behind a hotel, as someone else noted, and there are some dustbins and rest areas, but everything was neat and tidy and staff were discreet and very pleasant. I really wouldnât let this put you off. In fact being tucked away really made you realise that you were staying in a hugely historic, Mediaeval village where everything is incredibly higgledy piggledy. The huge plus of this tucked away location is the peace. Middleham is a busy little place in the day and quiet in the evening, but by staying off the road you were quiet throughout the day and night. It was fascinating to see the huge number of racehorses and their stables; the scenery around is stunning and their are lots of walks from the door. This was a really fabulous cottage with every amenity. One complaint...we had to leave

The cottage is just off the square, so amenities are very close by.
The fixtures and fittings are of high quality and it's beautifully decorated, but there is a lack of manuals for most of appliances so it was guess work, especially the microwave. The main problem we had was heating, or lack of it. The property has 3 electric radiators, 1 in each of the upstairs bedrooms and 1 downstairs. All of them were in the frost state of 7c, so effectively off. There is a wood burner and 1 bag of logs which we used up that evening trying to get the place warm. During the week we used a further 6 bags as the radiator is only 1kw, so is just background heat. The property should have adequate heating included and the wood burner is optional and not as it is with the stove being the primary source of heat with the customer having to buy most of the fuel. The other option would be to include fuel in the rental. So if you come in winter be prepared to spend £50 on fuel.

As other reviewers have said - be sure to read the listing for Blue Horizon so as not to be surprised on arrival - except perhaps by the simply amazing views from virtually every window which you might not be prepared for.
The property was originally a fishermanâs cottage, close to the the working harbour - Brixham is still a working fishing port with all the associated sights and sounds that are part of that canvas. Previous comments about the parking are correct - and some cars are not ideally suited to using the space - especially if lower to the ground as there is a danger of scraping the underside of the car. There is either long stay parking (£8.50/24hrs - Sept 21) or free on road parking nearby which we used as do many locals. Arranged over three floors the cottage is well equipped, and proved to be an excellent base from which to explore this part of South Devon - on foot, by sea and by car. The WiFi was excellent and the SmartTV and DVD player were appreciated. There was plenty of hot water for showering, towels were provided.
