What our customers say about their holidays

The victorian terrace is not a cottage, the high ceilings & big rooms mean it is also, not cosy.
The house is a hodge-podge of styles & a collection of dated and cheap furniture. It reminded us of a student house. The master bed was far too soft - we had to play musical beds as none of us could bare to sleep in it. Those who did got terrible back pain. The bed covers were very dated & cheap, apart from in the twin where the bed covers carried on with the coastal blue theme. In the master, the bedside tables were dirty inside & in all bedrooms the dust along skirting boards was off putting (especially behind beds - we lost our sons toothbrush and upon searching found it behind the single bedside table matted in dust and muck). There are no blackout curtains - again very cheap window dressings. The bath slopes and when wet & soapy, a fall hazard. The lounge had a bad smell, which we later realised may have been the rodent living in the house (our terrier was very preoccupied with trying to root it out, and we heard it at night scurrying about). The faux leather sofa had a strange cheesy smell and was very uncomfortable. Both sofas very uncomfortable, mis-matched and felt cheap. The kitchen was again a mix of styles with black worn leather dining chairs against upcycled vintage ones. The cutlery drawer had crumbs & food debris in it. Upon arriving, the sink was not clean and there was what seemed to be broccoli on the tap. The bureau, where we found the recycling bags, was dirty inside and had a used foot covering in there. The unit under the window in the lounge was also filthy. The yard was referenced as a kids play area, it is not this. It is a concrete yard previously used for parking a car. The kettle was terrible and leaked water all over when pouring. Toaster too small. Again, all these things made it feel cheap. The welcome book gave a very patronising account of how one should conduct themselves during the stay, which was off-putting. Especially when, the house itself is the state it is - it felt as though the owners were cheaping out on it but expected guests to treat it like a luxury palace. The hosts left a bottle of wine and chocolates as a welcome, which was a nice touch, but the welcome card itself had greasy food/finger prints on it. The location is good for the beach and amenities, however for two of our four day stay, there was roadworks outside the house and we could not get our car out. We feel the host would probably have been pre-warned about this & should have passed that on to us. All in all, for the price this host is charging & the turn over they make, especially in high season, they should really invest more in this holiday stay. Other guests, in the guest book, mentioned the toaster and soft bed but the hosts have not rectified these issues. Will not be returning.

The location of the accommodation facing the sea and the enclosed outside deck with furniture. Fabulous! The light flowing through the rooms. Comfortable couches, beds and brand new carpets. The attractive design and decor and available items in the kitchen. We have stayed in other Host & Stay properties and had the same high level of thoughtfulness and cleanliness. Everything was brand new which was lovely for us. Good sized shower cubicle. Very comfortable accommodation in all aspects for the two of us, small but perfectly formed! The quiet - it is semi detached but we did not hear our neighbours. It's in a quiet spot on the holiday park. Good car parking close to accommodation. The sea pathway is in front of the accommodation and is a flat walk for miles with lots of seating to admire the views. Beach access is easy. Can walk along the pleasant South and North promenades right from the door of the property - and there are two different beaches one is sandy and one is pebbly! The golden sand beach in front of the property is the dog beach but they were no problem, there is plenty of space on the large sands and it felt quiet on a May bank holiday weekend with hot sunshine. The Park and Ride bus depot is a 5 minute walk away and the Land train is about a 10 minute walk - both along the promenade. We had glorious sunshine for the majority of our stay and the sunrise and sunset was gorgeous. On our rainy day we were cosy inside and still enjoyed a promenade walk in the rain. The shower tray could be slippy when using soapy products, caution is needed then it is ok. Out of the control of the host, there are building works around the property to build more chalets - they were not operating during our stay so I cannot comment on noise levels because there was not any. The builders had fenced off the pathway which meant we walked over rough grassland to get to the beach path. On wet days this is more of an issue because of muddy shoes on re-entering. There is a door mat of course. Once the pathway is accessible this removes the issue. Host & Stay cleaners are diligent and no doubt will stay on top of cleaning the carpets between stays.

Mixed review.
We stayed in Lazy Daze lodge in Bridlington. The lodge itself was lovely and clean, smelt fresh and new when we opened the door (I believe they were only installed in 2021). It took us a few minutes to find the key safe as it blends in (itâs almost opposite the door attached to the fence). Everything worked fine. The âkettleâ in the kitchen was a little odd, itâs a drinks machine which boils water very quickly, but the water quantity vs mug size doesnât match, so you either end up with half a cup, or it overflows. The main downside to this lodge is itâs position. Itâs right next to a busy main road, there is a small hedge in between, but that doesnât stop the noise. Thereâs a constant flow of traffic (cars, lorries, tractors, farming machinery) all day long from around 5.30am until 10pm. Oh, and on some days the drain cleaning lorry arrives at 7am and empties the drain system directly behind Lazy Daze lodge. Thankfully the road does quieten down overnight, but we couldnât wait to leave the lodge during the day to get away from the constant drone of traffic. Hazy Daze lodge is the lodge next door, so itâs a little bit further away from the road, but I donât think it will be much better than Lazy Daze as far as road noise is concerned. We will not be going back to Lazy Daze because of the road noise, which is a shame as the lodge itself is lovely.

This should be called Hollow House not Cosy Cottage as it is very echoey and hollow.
The good side: it is near the beach, the beds were comfortable although the double was very soft. It was mostly clean inside and there was a huge tv which the kids loved. The bad side: the outside is filthy and looks like the windows haven't been cleaned for a couple of years. The curtain in the living room is torn and the net is just a small piece of single fabric. There is a tiny yard at the back with the high wall of a hotel looming behind it. No attempt has been made to make it pleasant so the view from the back is awful. To make matters worse there is also a huge extractor fan going 18/24 hours so you have to keep the windows in the back bedrooms and kitchen shut. There is no way of drying anything - no tumble dryer, not even a line in the yard - and this in a house near the beach. The decor is tatty - an attempt at shabby chic I imagine which is just shabby. The bedding is 100% cheap polyester. I have never stayed in a holiday let with polyester bedding. There towels were small and thin. There were exactly 5 usable mugs in the kitchen - the 6th was cracked all over the bottom; the fridge was small and the bottom shelf on the door had been removed. I expect better from a Sykes-let house. Sykes used to have a good reputation for the quality of their properties but times must have changed as this is one of the poorest holiday lets I have ever rented.

The hosting company waited until the rebate deadline had passed before informing me of additional costs, and would not send information about access until that was paid. This is a really unethical practice. The property was on a building site and parking area was covered in debris. Secondly, the paths to the property were uneven due to rabbits digging, and I fell, badly injuring my ankle, which ruined the weekend. The host and the management company simply directed my feedback to the owner of the park. Absolutely no accountability. The property was well equipped - but the management was very poor. The whole place was very dusty, with dead flies and cobwebs. The bedding was too small for the beds, so you couldn't tuck the bottom sheet in. There were light bulbs missing, cigarette butts outside, and the internet very slow. I requested a reimbursement of the cleaning fee, but this was refused as I did not let them know first thing (I was occupied with an injured ankle)
