What our customers say about their holidays
Elizabeth - Verified booking
We had a fab holiday here.
Location super. View of beach and sea stunning. House perfect size for number of people that can stay. Plenty of utensils etc in kitchen. Great that a whole pile of beach towels provided (we didnât use them but a lovely touch - perhaps that could be added to info when booking so you donât bring your own - unless it was and I missed it). A lovely touch leaving the biscuits and bag to keep. It came in very handy. We would recommend it without a doubt. But we do feel there are one or two things that need addressing and know that you will already be aware as theyâve been mentioned in reviews. The main one for us was the lounge balcony area floor. It needs fixing. Itâs dangerous. We covered the broken tiles with a mat for the week so no one tripped or cut their feet/paws. The picnic table needs a lick of paint to tidy it up and make it cleaner. Clearer instructions in folder regarding rubbish days. It just says bag up rubbish and put in wheelie bin for Friday collection. We didnât know which bin to use. I looked it up on Cornwall council site and date matched with black bin. When we left, the locals had brown and blue bins out. Also, on arrival all recycle boxes, bags were full (overflowing) at side of garage. We had nowhere to put our things from day one of the holiday. Other than that, we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the setting for the house was a big part of this. Thank you.

The setting is lovely, with many lovely coves nearby and the farmhouse is spacious. The house-keeper Tamara and Jason the groundsman were both great and responsive. But, the experience of staying in this house was not up to Rural Retreat standards. The quality of the kitchen fixtures such as hob and oven, and the crockery was not first class. There were not enough glasses or mugs eg. The frying pans were old and damaged, these were replaced on request. There was also a sense of meanness in what was provided eg although there were plenty of logs for the fire the host provided only one lot of kindling, making it clear in notices that more kindling had to be purchased. This seemed inappropriately scrimping for such an expensive stay over Christmas. The windows in most of the bedrooms need replacing because they rattle with the winds and this kept us up during two windy nights. The one bedroom with a new window didn't have this problem. The water went off overnight due to a failed pump but we were told this was a one-off and it was switched to another pump the next morning. Overall I have given just three stars because it did feel rather like the Farmhouse needs a re-fresh and an up-scale in the quality of provision. This is the first time I have not given a RR stay five stars.

First of all, this property is beautiful, set in a quiet area with stunning views from the upstairs living room.
All the beds were super comfy and the secure garden meant that our pooches couldn't escape. A very comfortable space with all the things from home you'd expect to find in the kitchen drawers! If it's on, we recommend the farmers/craft market next door at the Institue on a Sunday. We bought loads of tasty goodies here and also won a prize on the tombola. We kept the bird bath topped up all week and had so many birds taking advantage of the water. We briefly met Neil the owner, lovely guy too! Constructive criticism:- 1. The grass had been cut but the clippings had been left which meant that every time we walked outside during the morning, the dewy grass was walked in the house (obviously, the dogs never wipe their feet). 2. Some big old cobwebs in the skylight going up the stairs. Not a huge issue i know but some attention to detail is being missed here. 3. The back door (by the washing machine) was almost impossible to lock. Definitely needs some attention as when we arrived it looked locked but wasn't. Would i recommend Penhaven - absolutely! We had a fantastic holiday and having such a beautiful place to come back to made all the difference.

The photos and description don't do the house justice - the location is rural and absolutely stunning.
You can see the waves rolling onto the beach from most rooms and there is access to the beach, dunes and SW Coastal Pathway via the field beside the house. All the amenities you could wish for are a walk/drive away, as are beautiful locations such as Crantock beach, Holywell, Polly Joke beach, Perran Sands, Cubert Common, Kelsey Heads. Our teenage children particulary enjoyed surfing down the dunes (at the end of the garden) and seal watching near Polly Joke. The locals are very welcoming and Crantock village, along with West Pentire, is small and quiet (in October at least!) The house itself is immaculate and well-organised. The showers are worth a mention as they are the best we have ever had in a rental! Everything is thought of, including supplies for the dog, and there was a chocolate cake to greet us which was well-received. We felt that all necessary measures had been taken regarding Covid 19. In retrospect, we were extremely lucky to have booked Cheynoweth due to a cancellation. It's the sort of place you would return to year-on -year and I would highly recommend it.

An absolute fantastic holiday in an amazing house.
Everything was clean, tidy and lots of instructions which was much appreciated. Its the first time I've been to this house, my husband and his family were there last year, its the first time I've not cleaned myself coming to a holiday home, it was spotless, you could see the standard throughout the whole house. There was a chocolate cake, oh my word, it was the best we've ever had and a lovely touch. There was a really great welcome box which contained lots of useful items including extra bags, posh porridge and Cornish biscuits. The garden is stunning with amazing sea views. We sat outside and ate our dinner every night, we loved our week at Chynoweth and already booked for next year! Highly recommended for easy access to Crantock Beach, nice to be able to walk without having to drive. We cannot wait until next year, thanks so much to Jessica, we really appreciate all the nice treats it made our holiday extra special, and especially for the high level of cleanliness throughout the whole house, thank you. Michelle, Jerry, Jerry's parents and Storm the dog.
