  Main bedroom There was extensive mildewing in the en-suite wet room, the mat in the shower was disgusting on the underside and a strong smell of damp overall in that room. The bed in the main bedroom was broken and the metal bar holding it together just lying on the floor. The mattress protector in that room was very badly stained. Lounge There were stains on the blue sofa in the lounge. The windows were filthy as was the interior of the front door. Shower-rooms There was no bath in the property as was stated on the description. One of our guests had a stained towel. All the bathrooms had limescale on the taps giving the impression that they were unhygienic. None of the showers had mats to step out on to - every bathroom just had a hand towel. Kitchen The oven was very dirty, and we chose not to use it for that reason, it had dirty oven racks and trays. There were no tea towels in the kitchen, and we had been left only one dishwasher tablet for the 3 day stay. As a minimum we would have expected salt and pepper but there were just some left over sachets of pepper from a previous guest. A pint of milk for arrival would have been a nice touch. Generally Unfortunately, the property was very dirty. All the floors had not been swept or vacuumed and they certainly hadn't been washed in some time and the property needed dusting.

  The cottage is next door to the owners, but completely private and you are welcome to use the whole garden, which is really large and beautiful, and the tennis court, for which they kindly provide tennis racquets and balls in the house. The owners were welcoming, and not in any way intrusive. The house is spotlessly clean and the best equipped I have ever stayed in if you want to do your own cooking, and is kitted out with quality stuff that you would choose to have in your kitchen. Cling film/foil/baking paper/dishwashing tablets etc are all provided, plus a bottle of olive oil and a bottle of their lovely home made apple juice. The kitchen and downstairs living areas lead seamlessly into each other and onto the decking with very comfortable outside seating. The beds were very comfy with cotton bedding and plenty of towels. Very quiet location, but within 5mins driving of a pub at Bilsington which is highly recommended though we didn't try it. I can't recommend this house enough, and can't think of anything to improve it which has never happened before!

  Had a lovely week at Swallows Return. The barn is in a peaceful location & we were able to relax & enjoy the peace & quiet of the Kent countryside. Ashford was less than 15 minutes drive & has everything you need including supermarket & gym (essential for me)! The owners were wonderful hosts & went out of their way to ensure our stay was comfortable. They welcomed us to share the 2 acres of beautiful garden so that we could walk our dog. The garden is full of fruit trees so we easily managed our 5-a-day. ‘Scrumping’ was actively encouraged. With the provisions provided on our arrival the owners left some homemade apple juice & upon leaving presented us with some Victoria plum jam. On ‘our’ star rating we’d rate the accommodation & hosts with their hospitality 5 out of 5

  Absolutely First Class Cottage, furnished to a very high standard, Thoughtfully and tastefully decorated throughout, giving a feeling of home from home. Beautifully laid out garden & grounds with amazing wildlife and surrounding areas. Congeniality in abundance from the owners Sarah and Tim. Thankyou again, for such an outs My Wife and I were fortunate enough to have found this Country retreat, A true Gem in every sense of the word. We were celebrating my 75th birthday, and ??? Wedding anniversary in the same weekend. Sarah and Tim welcomed us to this Amazing , home from home property Which has been beautifully, tastefully and thoughtfully presented. We enjoyed a magical experience here, and, are planning our next visit, hopefully this year.

  Absolutely lovely barn accommodation surrounded by the owners’ very special garden (which they kindly allow guests to explore) and countryside beyond. It is just 5 or 6 miles to the sea at Dymchurch, St Mary’s Bay, Littlestone and Greatstone, with the very pleasant seaside town of Hythe a little further, and the country roads were no problem even for a large car. The shopping outlet village at Ashford is worth a visit if you enjoy shopping and a bargain, about 6 miles away. The owners are friendly and they have clearly put a lot of thought and care into furnishing and equipping the barn, it is very comfortable indeed and finished and furnished to a high standard. We couldn’t fault it and would recommend Swallows Return without hesitation.
