What our customers say about their holidays

We had a great stay.
Admittedly the property is looking a bit tired in places, the walls and skirting boards need a paint and some of the windows have broken handles. The downstairs small bathroom has a dodgy toilet roll holder as it fell off the bracket. Overall the quality of the crockery and cutlery were high, there were ample of each and the pots and pans were clean and plenty of them. The appliances were all good and clean. The only criticism I had with the kitchen was a lack of cupboard space to store our food, but a bit of juggling I made some room. The sofas are also tired and do sag a bit but I understand it is rented out to dog owners as well and dogs will climb on even though they shouldn't. The bedding was all crisp and clean as were the towels and the beds were comfortable. Wardrobes were a bit small and not enough hangers. Although I did make use of anns cottage for their free ones to use. It was a bonus having the utility area with washer and dryer that came in useful. The garden was a good size and a real suntrap we enjoyed sitting out in. The supply of tea towels and washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets was appreciated. It wasn't quite a home from home but close and certainly better than our two previous rentals. Would definitely stay again. Location was fantastic being so close to the beach. A little bit of tlc with decorating would make it perfect. I again had issues with the cleaning as hair was left in the plughole in the white shower and dust bunnies in the corners and as per the last rental we stayed in no-one bothers to move the beds to vacuum but that is on the cleaners not the owners. Another review from March 2023 really gave this property a bad review but after staying I disagree with that review. The noisy extractor fan of the waterfront restaurant that she complained about had me worried as I am a light sleeper, but honestly it is noisy in the day but only if our door open or you are outside but it switches off about 10-11pm and only starts again when they open in the morning so wasn't an issue. Just goes to show people react differently to things.

Ragleighs was probably the best holiday home that we have ever rented.
It was very well equipped, was very spacious (accommodating all fourteen of us very easily), and very tastefully furnished and decorated. Everything looked as new when we arrived! And finally, it was very conveniently located directly above Daymer Bay Beach and a very short drive to Polzeath Beach. So, 11 out of 10 for the house. Now for the not so good bit. On Saturday (our third day) we noticed that the shower room and the bathroom on the ground floor were not draining properly so I called the Agents on Saturday afternoon and was told that someone would come on Saturday to investigate. On Sunday a man turned up and âplungedâ the bathroom waste. He didnât look under the manhole cover in the decking directly outside the bathroom window.. A day or two later we noticed that bathroom still wasnât draining properly and, as I had just had an email from the Agents informing me that the case had been resolved and closed I replied by email saying that things still werenât draining properly and that they should send a plumber/drain specialist back. Nobody turned up. On Wednesday morning the next door neighbour arrived and said that he thought there was a problem with one of the cess pits and, having checked his, he thought that Ragleighâs cess pit was probably full as it was overflowing dirty water into his garden. He said he would call John Bray (the local Agents, not Sykes who I had booked through and who had informed me that the problem had been sorted) and ask them to get the cess pit emptied as quickly as possible, which was duly done by 2.20 pm on Wednesday afternoon. So, if the cess pit had been emptied before it filled up and started overflowing, or if the man who came on Sunday had bothered to lift the manhole cover we would have had a lot less trouble. Not really what we expect to have to deal with during a seven day holiday

Thalassa is a lovely property, and we've been many times before.
There were a couple of issues this time, with cleanliness and maintenance. The outside light at the front, the main light in the living room, and one of the lights in the sun room were not working. Perhaps the bulbs were blown and, in the past, there were spares in the cupboard, and I changed bulbs; this time, there were no spares, so I couldn't change them. The radiators in the upstairs bathroom, and in the small bedroom next to it, were cold. They were full of air, but I had no key to bleed them. I mentioned both these problems to a maintenance man in a John Bray van as we were leaving yesterday morning, so hopefully they were addressed in time for any new arrivals this week. The kitchen waste bin was stinking when we arrived. It had of course been emptied, by removing the liner bag, but there were dribbles and spills of food scraps and fluids in the bottom of the bin. The bin needs to be emptied by removing the liner bags but, in addition, probably once a week, it needs to be rinsed out with disinfectant. Surely this is a weekly job for the cleaning staff?? I rinsed it out myself last week. The downstairs shower flows very well but, the drain does not discharge the water as quickly as it flows in from the shower. The result is that the soapy water in the base rises inexorably during your shower, and you have to rush to finish before the level spills over and floods the room! The problem was not helped by the drain being partially blocked with soapy residue, sand, and hair; this should be cleaned weekly! I disassembled the shower trap and cleaned it out, which helped, but did not completely resolve the problem. In the past, these small details were more closely managed and contributed to a better overall experience at Thalassa.

Stayed here last year and had a good time so booked again.
We love the property and proximity to the beach. It has everything we need. A welcome addition were the two new sun loungers which we put to good use when the weather was hot. It was also appreciated that the outdoor shower canopy had been replaced and extended over the entrance door. It was disappointing that the BT Internet and TV did not work on arrival. However John Bray responded to my call on the Saturday morning. They sent a man round to check who came back later to check the voltage on the tv and brought a dongle so we could connect to the Internet. The tv still did not work so they provided a replacement. Can't fault John Brays response at all. The issue was deemed to be a BT issue but after we had watched Eurovision we didn't really need the TV. The owner's collection of DVD's kept us entertained. The house was warm and had everything we needed. Even a washing machine and tumble dryer out in the shed. Both of the bathrooms could do with a paint update, but in the bigger ofvthe two the shower cubicle had been updated since our last visit. In some rooms the cleaners could pay a bit more attention to dusting the skirting boards and the louvre doors as they were thick eith dust in the room with 2 single beds. The rooms could do with some shelves for storing things like hair dryer and make up as the one unit with two drawers is not big enough. Both bathrooms need more shelves as there is not enough room to put anything. The wet room also gets wet from the shower and leaks under the door into the hall so a towel has to be put down in the hall and it definitely needs more storage in there. As I said at the start this is our second stay abd despite the small niggles we love it and hope to return again next year.

Loved the fact there was plenty of space for everyone that was secure and safe not to worry where the little one was playing. The downstairs bedroom for one of the group who canât manage stairs too well was almost spot on, just needed a bigger shower cubicle to make it perfect. Possibly a square cubicle with an outward opening door, as the sliding doors limit how much space you have to get into said cubicle. Lovely big kitchen and dining area, fantastic space for home cooking and plenty of seating for everyone. The table could do with a lazy Susan to spin food round when serving (but passing food round and over others added a bit of fun to meal time, much to the amusement of our toddler). A decent sized fridge/freezer for a big group with varying dietary wants, and a second chiller for drinks was a very nice addition. Donât often find it in houses weâve been, but there were plenty of seats by for everyone in the living room area for us all to sit down. Could have done with a second tv in kitchen area for those who donât enjoy football of an evening, or other shows etc when winding down of an evening). Loads of space to park our three cars with plenty of room around etc, good access to front and back of the property from the driveway. Possibly a discreet handrail up the front steps would have been useful for the eldest in our group, but not a huge issue. We also got a very quick response when we had a minor issue with the gate where it wouldnât fully close, somebody was out to take a look within half an hour of calling. He was lovely and friendly and the gate was fixed that same day (a Saturday too). Very efficient and meant our toddler and small dog could continue to enjoy the whole outside space in the sunshine.
