What our customers say about their holidays

We have previously stayed at this property and have already booked for next June - so that in itself speaks volumes!
This is a very old cottage - previously the post office! It has magnificent views of the Straits from all of the windows at the back of the house! It is on the main road from Menai to Beaumaris so you do get road noise but to be honest an extra glass of wine at night and oneâs sleeps through without hearing it too much! There are a couple of stairs in the property but my 94 year old father managed them easily! The small terraced area is seperate to the house - you have to go out of the front door and walk less than 10 yards to the gate and there are approximately 10 steep steps down to it! I sat out there every morning with my dog and a brew watching the heron get its morning feed on the waters edge! Yes there is a build up of algae but come on guys - what do you expect ⦠itâs on the straits and is a welcome addition to the facilities! We had a couple of barbecues on it last year - granted the steps are steep so be cautious! It does not have direct access to the waters edge/beach⦠but a short 5 minute walk to the Gazelle and you can skim as many stones as you want and have a pint - sounds perfect to me! The property does require a few things doing to it and it would benefit from the carpet being replaced in the lounge (or replaced with a decent solid wooden flooring) but look this is one of the few properties where you can take your dog and you step straight into the house from the road side so yes there are a few marks but this does not take away from the comfort and serenity of this place! The bath in the main bedroom is out of this world! There is a property underneath the cottage but you do not hear anything and occasionally you may see their delightful Jack Russell running around like a mad thing! Itâs a dogs life afterall !! All in all - I accept that some work is required but we love it and would recommend it all day long â¦

The high location of the cottage above the waters of the Menai Strait is certainly a premier feature.
Considering all we are going through at the moment, the cottage was extremely clean and smelt fresh. The result, I would guess, of a lot of extra hard work on behalf of whoever cleaned the place. Internally the cottage is open plan and there is a lot of space. We liked the non-slip floor in the large shower - that was excellent. The kitchen had plenty of room to self-cater. The gas rings on the stove took a little getting used to, but the dual electric ovens were excellent. Bedrooms were super and were very clean. Door lock on the outside door was a bit dodgy and needed a good hard pulling to before the catch would engage. The extension was a very useful feature for storing jackets and rucsacs etc. There is plenty of room for two or three cars. Angelsey is the largest island in England and Wales at 276 sq.miles, so you do a lot of driving to get to places and there are a lot of places that are well worth visiting. Beaumaris is the honeyspot of the island, but despite that it is well worth visiting. Asda at Llangefni has the cheapest petrol at 110.7p for unleaded when we were there (Sept/Oct 2020), but we saw 119.9p. Do your research well before you visit for places on the island to visit. The walk via Menai's back streets along the water front, under Telford's Bridge (amazing) to Church Island is fabulous. Finish uphill at Waitrose. The weather was reasonably kind to us, so we were able to do a lot of walking and exploring. We stayed in Menai Bridge, where the cottage is located and the newspaper shop next to The Bulkeley Arms and the three coffee shops/cafes in the centre were all great with really friendly folk attending to customers. Angelsey is most certainly a great holiday destination.

We stayed for 3 nights to celebrate a 50th birthday and this place did not disappoint!
Beautiful location, modern and clean property and in a great location, quiet but close enough to local amenities. This place ticked every box! We brought two large dogs who loved to run in the large, secure garden and then warm up with the underfloor heating. The kitchen is fully stocked with glasses for every need: utensils, pots, pans, chopping boards, serving platters and cleaning stuff. We did find we didnât have any antibacterial spray or paper towels (but was more than happy to buy) so bare this in mind when doing shopping before coming! There is a mop and Hoover available to use (handy with pets) and washing up liquid, sponges and dishwasher tablets within the kitchen which was really convenient. A highchair is also provided if travelling with children. We had also been left some very delicious cakes which went down fantastically after we arrived. The bedrooms are spotless, with comfortable and large beds and amazing showers in the en-suites. The area is clean, beautiful and quiet with the occasional noise from the nearby roads (nothing major). After reading other reviews, we collected a takeaway from the local Chinese, Golden Bird. We had such a feast and is absolutely worth itâs good reputation. There are many shops within a 20min-30min drive in Bangor, Asda, Marks and Spencers, Waitrose and Lidl all easily accessible by car. If youâre looking for things to do with dogs, we visited Newborough Warren beach which is dog friendly at particular times of the year. This was around 30 minutes drive with parking practically on the beach. Would 100% recommend this stay to anyone with or without dogs. There is no doubt that we will be returning!

Had a wonderful week at Swn Y Wylan enjoying magnificent views over the Menai Straits.
The cottage is beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean, spacious, comfortable and has great facilities throughout. The kitchen and utility room has everything you need. The outdoor seating areas are great for enjoying the views (we were lucky with the sunshine) and private parking is easy. Great to have a wood burner for the evenings. Also good to have choice of TV options with smart TV. Lots of nice touches set it above the rest like ready made fire, starter pack, welcome card, wine, fudge, bottled water & milk in the fridge, Newspapers and TV Guide, the nice room sprays, relaxing spa shower wash, fairy lights in the entrance way, outdoor solar lights round the terrace. Mum loved the Welsh cakes! I didn't get chance to taste so will take her word for it! The radio was on when we first entered the cottage and was classic FM though it was a piano concerto and we actually thought someone was greeting us with a piano :) Ellen and Gordon were so helpful and friendly. The cottage is close enough to walk into town to the nice restaurants and there are several nice walks and places to see around Menai Bridge from Cadnant Gardens to the Belgian Promenade. But on Anglesey you are never far from anywhere. Menai Bridge is a good base for exploring.

Beautiful property with breathtaking views.
The hosts have thoughtfully equipped the cottage with everything you could want for a perfect break. The welcome pack was very well received. The property was immaculately clean and comfortable. Lots of places to sit and appreciate the scenery. We loved the perfectly curated decor and appreciated the effort made to present it so beautifully. The cottage is perfectly located for day trips and activities. Having visited Anglesey since my childhood (but always the far side of the island) we finally got to walk under and over the Menai bridge. Menai village itself is buzzing with nice bars, cafes and restaurants. Iâm now sold on staying in Menai as it is so convenient for exploring both the island and the mainland. We feel very fortunate that we had the opportunity to stay in this cottage and want to thank Elen and Gordon for sharing this beautiful place with us. My only regret is that we only booked one week and not two. We very much hope to return, hopefully sooner rather than later, to this very special residence.
