What our customers say about their holidays

A lovely weeks stay at Ynys Faelog.
The house is beautiful and very well decorated. Plenty of space for our party of 7 adults, a baby and 2 dogs. The outdoor space was perfect for our dogs to roam and explore. A few issues: - the kitchen doesnât appear to have an extractor fan. This caused a problem whenever we cooked on the hob (which was daily). This in turn set off the smoke alarms. This was a real nuisance as not only did we have a young baby who was awoken by the alarm, we had to have the patio doors open after cooking to waft any smoke away. This would have been ok in summer but it was winter when we have stayed and cold. We had elderly people in our party so it wasnât really ideal. We did call Sykes half way through our stay to ask where the extractor fan was (we worried it was something obvious we were missing) they promised to contact us back once speaking with the owner but we never heard. This seems to be quite a major design fault. - the kitchen lacks some basic cooking equipment, measuring jugs and casserole dishes to make things such as a lasagne for example -if you are using the travel cot provided you need to take your own mattress for it. The mattress with the cot is more of a lining for the bottom and itâs very hard and thin - Definetly not suitable for a little one to sleep -the main bathroom shower did not drain well - which one day almost flooded the hallway. We did find the plug hole was full of hair and gunge. - the master on suite shower was really really cold. The heating thermostat on the outside would only let this be turned up to 17 degrees. Again, unsure if this would be warm if it had been the summer One other issue was that there was no direct number to contact the owner to ask basic questions such as these. There was also no message owner facility on the app. All queries had to be called through to Sykes direct which wasnât ideal and as noted above, we didnât get a resolution

Afallon delivered the wonderful views that attracted us to it in the first place.
There is plenty of space to spread out within the property, but we spent 90% of our time in the conservatory with the doors wide open taking in the views. The hot tub was a great addition and added to the house's collection of TV's, games machines and board games etc. The walk into the small town is closer to 50 minutes but it has all the basic shops you would need, along with some cracking little cafe's all with superb service. We also took advantage to RibRide with a 1 1/2-hour trip out to puffin island. They offer various packages, but they are highly recommended but take your own wet weather jacket just in case. Beaumaris is a short drive up the other way along the coast and has a far greater selection of shops, cafe's etc. plus, the historic court rooms, jail and castle. It's a lovely place but the seagulls are like 'Special Forces' who can steal your food (ice creams included) from you in the blink of an eye - bless em! They had me in stitches watching them attack my daughters ice cream cone. The house boasts some lovely garden areas, with some additional seating areas. Note that, like all places based in rural locations, there will be a fair number of flies etc. We were never bothered by them at all, but they do like to collect in the conservatory, but they can soon be evicted and they never made it further into the house and/or bothered with any food we had prepared. Note that the drive can look daunting to some but it's easily accessible if you take it sensibly, with plenty of parking spaces over two levels. The only error we made was that we only booked it for a week, it takes a week just to unwind and start to relax. It's a place where we would consider coming back to in the future as we've been visiting North Wales and Anglesey for over 20 years as there is so much to do. It's a stunningly beautiful location.

This property is special.
The combination of the location (which is stunning and very peaceful) and the history, just make this such a special place to stay, its is after many years of hiring properties for holiday, my absolute favorite. I am sorry to say though, that whoever is managing the property on the owners behalf are letting them down. The L shaped sofa, and the mattresses in the lower ground floor bedroom are beyond their sell by date, one of the baths was not very clean (black sludge actually came out of the tap in the upstairs bathroom, went away quick enough) and there were no logs in the basket for the fire (it didn't get chilly until our 2nd to last night and only noticed then that there were no logs, it was outside of the time you could contact the housing keeping so we just went and got our own). This property is wonderful and it just needs that little bit of love and care to get it to excellent. I would of rebooked this property for next year, however, the price for the same time of year has gone up by over £600. Such a shame as no doubt myself and other people who have previously stayed here now can't afford it and with things just showing a bit of wear and tear it seems a little bit on the cheeky side but I guess after the pandemic profits are down. I have stayed at another property on the strait with awesome views and location and they are charging a similar amount but the property is exceptionally equipped with terrific beds, tv's in everyone rooms with Sky and Netflix. It feels that because of the properties location its felt that not too much attention needs to be paid to replacing things or offering more facilities because people will be swept away by the view. If you are reading this, it is a very special place to stay but don't expect 5 star facilities - this is more of a character property.

We enjoyed our stay here, the house was beautiful with stunning views, and was well equipped.
The beds were comfy, lovely furniture, and the house was cozy and warm. The house itself was very clean, however the hot tub unfortunately was not. We had no pre warning that the tub was drained and the expectation was to fill it. This wasnât really as issue as it filled quickly, but we did have to clean it before use as it hadnât been done, something I donât expect to have to do given the cost of the holiday home. I also had issues locating the hot tub starter pack. We waited for assistance from the house keeper for a few hours, and when I called to chase up, was directed to wood which had been left in the rain and was no use. I purchased logs, kindling and fire lighters myself. After our holiday I was told if I had receipts then I would be reimbursed. Had I known this before and not after the holiday, I would have kept them. The property itself was immaculate, and I could not fault the cleaning inside. I understand how difficult it must be to clean such a large home in a short space of time, and credit where itâs due, it was spotless inside. Reading a previous review, I agree the house would benefit from a manual , we muddled through just fine but normally expect a go to guide on how to use the appliances, hot tub, Wi-Fi etc. I did query this and was sent a link on the use of the wood fired hot tub which was great, but again, it would save visitors time if this info were readily available. We enjoyed our stay, and had it not been for the handling of the some of the above raised, would probably have booked again for our annual Christmas holiday as it was a lovely house. As a regular customer with Sykes, Iâm disappointed.

Bit of a mixed bag.
Can't fault the views and the location, but the property needs some attention and more explicit details in the listing of how many steps there are both inside and outside the property. The place to park your car is on a slope, and when it snows or is icy, getting your car off the car space, onto the road requires two people to push your car (as we found out when trying to leave to go home...) Pros- the settees are comfortable, kitchen well equipped. Cons - no teatowels or oven glove provided, which was rectified when I rang housekeeping. Upstairs toilet flush was broken, we reported this to Menai holidays rep when they did a courtesy call on the 2nd day, no one came to fix it. The place to park your car is a nightmare in winter weather. A supply of grit would be helpful. The downstairs double bed frame is rickety. It's metal and every movement makes it clang. Sliding door to outside decking is temperamental- you have to sort of push upwards while you slide to close it or it gets stuck. Downstairs bathroom is very very cramped. Getting in and out of the bath for a shower requires quite some balance! Something that shocked me, but nothing the owners can do about, is the amount of sewage in the menai straits. Everyday there was toilet paper and waste floating by. Steps, steps, steps - inside and out. I hate writing less than glowing reviews, but it was a very mixed bag. The views saved the week, but the trying to get onto the road experience to go home was horrendous.
