What our customers say about their holidays

Where to begin?
Hawthorn House is beautiful. The Garden is beautiful. Dogs ran around safely in the Garden with no concerns they may escape. The Garden also has a handy Picnic Table which we took full advantage of for eating at and playing board games on in the lovely sun as the Dogs languished or played on the lawn. The Hallway that greets you has a marvellous floor, leads through to the spacious Kitchen, whose window looks out onto the Garden. Kitchen has brilliant facilities and plenty of counter space. Small WC just before the Kitchen was very handy. Nice back door leading to the Garden, handy night light placed outside was very handy when the Dogs needed to be let out at night. Lounge is awesome, bijou, two lovely Sofas, nice large TV , cute fireplace with lovely mantle above it. Dining room is lovely and big, nice large dining table, fantastic not just for eating at but playing board games on too. Upstairs is great. Nice staircase leads to directly opposite a small and handy utility room with a stunning view out of its window. Next to the utility room is the main bathroom, lovely sized bath with an awesome anti slip mat that was really appreciated. Nice sized main bathroom. Hallway leads to the three bedrooms. Again, a great view from the master bedroom window. The other two bedrooms overlook Lower Lamphrey Road below. Beds wear made well, fresh linen , loads of towels supplied. Parking at Hawthorne House is great , the neighbours were extremely courteous, keeping the space outside Hawthorn House clear. As for the location of Hawthorn House, the town of Pembroke is literally at the end of the road. A handy One Stop shop for things you may need quickly was just off the roundabout. Aldi is a short car drive away. Freshwater Beach is about three miles away and is the other end of Lower Lamphery Road turn right and youâre more or less there, beach is Dog Friendly too, all of it. To sum up, Hawthorn House is a beautiful, comfortable, quiet place with a lovely Garden, lovely Neighbours, especially Rory the Cat, ideally placed. Tenby 10 miles away, Haverfordwest 11 miles away, Picton Castle about 7 miles away and Freshwater Beach about 3 miles away. Brilliant, beautiful home. Kelly is incredibly helpful and easy to reach should you need any questions answered. Her welcome pack is well thought out, easy to follow and very helpful. Thank you so much. We canât wait to return.

Really great location for exploring Pembrokeshire.
Very spacious, well-appointed lodge. There were a few drawbacks: - to get to the lodge you have to walk past the main home entrance of the lodge owner; this wasnât a huge problem but didnât allow for any privacy for lodge guests and a little uncomfortable as it feels like youâre walking through someoneâs garden and worried about disturbing the owner when exiting the property/going to the car. - it was great to be able to take pets, but our room smelt a bit of dog. Perhaps unavoidable if dogs are allowed on premises. - the boiler was very temperamental, and we had only luke warm water in the main bedroom en suite. We should have spoken with owner but just used the main bathroom; this needs fixing. - the roads to and from the lodge are mostly B roads and many were severely water logged if not flooded. This comes with the lodge being rural but if youâve got a small sports car then you might want to borrow a car or go someone less rural! The owner left Welsh cakes and mince pies which were lovely and her communication with us was superb. The kitchen was really well stocked with pots, pans etc. and the kitchen being part of the living room area was brilliant for entertaining.

Generally the cottage is good, with reasonable if not top notch facilities [eg would like a cottage for 4 to have a dishwasher].
Although perfectly clean, the need for updating and the amount of knick knacks meant it didnât quite feel that way and it smelt a little damp, not helped by how dark the cottage was - lots of windows but overgrown vegetation and covered verandah reduced the light. Good cooking equipment and beds comfortable. I was annoyed by the total lack of response to my text to the owners asking about return of items I had left behind [you get the number because they ask you to text them the day before you arrive. Returning the favour would have been helpful]. Sykes were totally useless on this too - the link to the form did not lead to a form, I couldnât find one anywhere, the live chat was closed and sent you to WhatsApp, the response there was infuriating [we have info for you, do you want it? Umm, yes, then nothing, then describe what youâve left, I did, then the response WhatsApp is closed, please use SMS. I gave up. Customer Service this is notâ¦]

Rusty screws where bath handle was missing Rusty microwave Rusty radiators Cracked bathroom sink Had to buy a can opener from ASDA for £1.
75. Empty washing up liquid No soap for handwashing, even in the toilet/bathroom No black bin liners One opened toilet roll provided for our weeks stay Front door handle hanging off Crumbling front door mat trip hazard Bedside cabinet in spare room front edging missing in places bathroom cabinet/mirror paint missing in places I contacted Sykes to complain about the condition of this property, who in turn contacted the owner regarding my request for compensation for this awful holiday The owner refused, but Sykes, as a gesture of good will refunded me £150. In my opinion the pictures you see on the internet do not reflect the true condition of this property. We have been booking with Sykes for years but this is by far the worst place we have stayed in, and we will definitely not be returning..

It was disappointing to hear that a red wine spillage caused so much consternation from the owner.
My 9 year old daughter inadvertently spilled my glass of wine which I had taken upstairs. I washed the sheet and cleaned up the spillage however some remained on the quilt and pillow case. I put a message in the visitors book and apologised. However I received a call to advise the owner had made a complaint. I understand the inconvenience however, surely it can be a potential for spillages to happen. We cleaned and hoovered the cottage before we left and treated the property with respect and consideration . It might be a good idea to have a dishwasher also. We paid just under £1000. For a week which is a substantial fee. Parking was also challenging . However lovely stay, very friendly neighbour who gave us tips on where best to go.
