What our customers say about their holidays

The flat is dog friendly and in an excellent location. It's right in the heart of town, very close to the beach, West Cliff, Whitby Abbey, and everywhere you might want to visit. It's directly next door to an excellent pub, with a great selection of beers, including gluten free and vegan options, but we were never bothered by any noise. Just up the road is The Cranberry Swamp where you can get an excellent breakfast and the whole menu can be made gluten free (I'm coeliac so this was much appreciated). If you head down the road there's another brilliant pub, The Esk Vaults, and also The Greedy Pig where my husband enjoyed a very tasty and reasonably priced pork roll with stuffing and apple sauce. If you want fish and chips you're spoilt for options in Whitby but the property is close to Trenchers and although you'll probably have to queue my husband assures me it's worth the wait. The flat is in a Disc Zone so parking is only allowed for an hour outside between 9am and 7pm but there are plenty of nearby on street parking options for free, and an hour is enough for loading and unloading the car. November to March there are hundreds of free parking spots on the West Cliff too. The property isn't terribly well equipped. There's only one small saucepan and a large frying pan. No whisk. Some of the crockery was chipped. They only supply one towel per person so extras are definitely needed. There was damage to the walls, although this is aesthetic only. The property was filthy and hadn't been cleaned. I'm not being overly picky or critical here - the property was genuinely disgustingly dirty and I have 30+ pictures documenting this. The skirting boards were dusty, door frames dirty, it hadn't been hoovered and there was a thick build up of dog hair along the edge of the carpets. There were cobwebs throughout, the crockery was stained and some had dried food on it from previous guests. There was what appeared to be dried blood on the wall, and stains on the carpet. Then we get to the bathroom - dusty, limescale on the taps and in the toilet, a cup/toothbrush holder that was not only chipped but also full of brown water, and toothpaste stains down the sides of the wash basin cabinet. Then the pièce de résistance was the shower, which was absolutely thick with black mould. The tiles, grout, and shower heads were covered in it. This clearly hadn't been cleaned or addressed for some time. There is inadequate ventilation in the bathroom which is obviously the cause, but if the place was cleaned regularly it would never have gotten into this state. Half the shower nozzles didn't work due to being blocked with either mould or limescale. Fortunately for the next guests we bought mould remover and other cleaning supplies and tackled this ourselves. It was relatively mould free when we left. We agreed to vacate the property the first day of our stay so they could re-clean, but nothing was touched. They promised us a £50 refund of the cleaning fee but failed to refund and stopped answering emails. Have had to open a dispute with my bank so have lowered their score. Avoid.

The staff that. Run the apartment, were as helpfully as a chocolate fire guard. Upon arrival. I'd still not been sent my check-in instructions after numerous calls. I finally got through to a very unhelpful person to find out I had to pay either a £150 damages fee, which would take a min of 14 days to be refunded or a £20 damages fee which is non refundable. I find this an utter rip-off that you have to pay this before you can actually have the key code after already paying the fee to book. In doing all this, it lost me a lot of time, but we had no choice & that was that I thought We received the check-in instructions & tried to open the key safe. At the time, it was raining & we couldn't open it for 40 minutes. we tried for & numerous calls again, trying to get through to someone for help, to finally be told they had sent the wrong check-in instructions again, losing further time, we finally opened the correct key safe and entered the property to find the bed not made Ripped bottom sheet hanging off & a quilt that I'd not put a dog in so again after around another 8 calls (and me by this time getting very frustrated) they told us they would send house keeping around to rectify the issue but for them to come we would have to leave & place the keys back in the key safe which I wasn't prepared to do & why should I when I've paid twice to be there so we decided to wait for House keeping & again in doing so lost even more time of a 1 night stay All in all, 3 & a half hours lost of a 1 night stay, we asked for a late check out, but where told that housekeeping are there at 10 am to clean & then ignored The road is so busy on a morning & the windows let so much noise through its impossible to sleep & we were up from 6 30 am I left there feeling much worse than when I arrived Would I stay again? Certainly, not as I dnt feel they care about their clients, just the extra cash they can get out of you.

Fabulous location, lovely views and great decor, also dog friendly! There are no curtains in the bedroom, just Venetian blinds which do not block out the light. Directly outside the bedroom on the street are hung festoons which lit up the room throughout the night. Sadly we had a very bad nights sleep because of it. I’d recommend bringing eye masks for future stays and ear plugs as the street is a little noisy. We were gutted as the room was lovely and the bed very comfortable. Outside there is a private deck but this wasn’t useable for us as it was covered in bird poo. I think overall we’d love to come back but a few tweaks need to be made for guests comfort. Deck mustn’t have been cleaned for a long time- perhaps add this to the cleaning rota when changing rooms ready for guests. Curtains needed on the rooms front door as I felt rather exposed in my towel walking past it. Curtains needed in the bedroom as mentioned above. A hook on the bathroom door would be great for hanging used clothes when showering. I didn’t want to get clothes wet on the floor.

Firstly, the cottage was really lovely.
It was very comfortable, furnished to a very high standard, was well equipped, and the owners very pleasant and helpful. However, the cottage was not in a tranquil position in the countryside as the description suggests. From the back door you can see a bit of countryside beyond the bank, but certainly not from the front. There is a large pub a few paces directly in front of the cottage with car parking and a sitting out area, a static caravan site to the right, a touring caravan site to the left, and a âthroughâ road passing directly outside the cottage to facilitate all the above , and also to the A171. In addition to this there is a bed and breakfast, and a âjetâ garage on site near the pub. The garden was not enclosed which was not stated either. If you like to be on top of a pub, in a busy area, this location is for you. I must reiterate again, that I have no complaints about the cottage, or the owners, just the very misleading information. I have photographic evidence to prove my point.

My boyfriend and I travelled 4 hours to get to Whitby and awaited the code for the lock box to check in- as we arrived a little early to have a wander. An hour had passed after our check in time and we decided to give them a call. We were then told by a robot that there were no agents available so we left a message; after another hour we finally got a call. Long story short, we were told that there were already guests- who had booked via an alternative booking site, staying inside the apartment and they could do nothing else for us. With no where to stay for the night and unsure if we’d even find a place, thankfully a lovely lady from a nearby hotel was able to squeeze us in and saved an almost ruined holiday. The support we received from the company that runs the apartment had extremely poor communications- as even the Airbnb support team couldn’t get hold of them, and they showed no empathy towards our situation whatsoever. Our advice is stay far away from the Host and Stay company.
