What our customers say about their holidays
Louis - Verified booking
While the location is excellent, itâs clear that the letting company only refurbished the main room and the rest of the flat is very dated.
The kitchen is probably 20 years old but functional although the oven, which is horrendously cheap is totally uselessâ¦.it took nearly 2 hours to roast some vegetables at full power. The bathroom is in desperate need of replacement, the Lino is grubby and the roof has odd yellow marks all over it, a lot of the furniture is corroded and the shower rail was lose when we were there so would quite often fall out of the braketâ¦when looking at the folder in the flat, the gas safety cert had also expired in January! Other obvious problems is that the flat has a very obvious carpet moth infestationâ¦they were everywhere and kept flying around in the evening â¦we had a 3 month old baby so didnât really want someone turning up and randomly spraying chemicals around so didnât report it . Is grim and itâs clear itâs been an issue for a while as thereâs moth dust marks around the property Finally and probably the most annoying is the walls and floors are paper thin and the upstairs tenant doesnât seem to careâ¦on the Saturday we were there at 2am he decided to put his stereo on full blast and we had similar events through the week where youâd hear shouting and talking and much more (!) till the early hours.

There are a lot of positives about this accommodation, we already know the area very well.
It was clean, spacious, well positioned for views and amenities and the parking space was a bonus, as parking would have been difficult near the flat. I was a little concerned having read recent reviews, but the property was rated excellent , so we booked anyway. There was a concerning problem on our first night there, which I reported via the instructions left by the owner the following morning. I do not feel it was taken with any urgent regard to make our stay less stressful. The noise from the flat above us started around 10pm and continued to around 3am, every night. The oven in his self catering flat did not get warm, and the twin bedroom, despite the radiators being on was absolutely freezing, we had to go out and buy blankets. We have booked with Sykes many times, but the property is managed by Lyme Bay holidays . We would not book this flat again until the above concerns were dealt with. Itâs a real shame.

The property itself was excellent, but when we arrived we saw that the garden was not enclosed and our dog could've got out onto a road, albeit a quiet one and the garden was shared by another cottage let. This meant our dig had to be staked at all times in the garden. Also a laminated sign that was in the cottage made it clear that, whilst dogs were permitted, they should be on a lead at all times (despite the brochure saying that there was an orchard for the dog to use). This, I felt was not "dog friendly". As it was, the weather was quite poor so we stayed inside most of the time we were at the cottage, otherwise this would have been a massive downer on the trip. Had we known these facts, we would have booked a different place. (Previous property we visited was uber dog friendly) The Manger itself was beautiful, everything as cosy and romantic as advertised, just the dog issue let it down for us.

We enjoyed our stay.
The views are not extraordinary but access to the town centre and sea-front is good. Comfort is Ok (we were able to visit my daughter's house to sit in comfortable settees with higher backs), the bed was very comfortable and food prep facilities good. As for Wifi, we happened upon one of the two apparently available connections which was working well. The TV had two identical remotes which may be of benefit to TV devotees - or maybe not. Refuse and recycling don't seem to be taken seriously here. The wall notice in the appartment asked us to take food, paper/plastics etc, and refuse to their respective bins in the parking area or maybe outside (??), but we could only find a very poorly managed bin for recycling of sorts in the basement, but nothing for refuse or food - which we left tidily bagged in the apartment on leaving.

The location was superb, the accommodation was basic. The upstairs was too hot, no fans provided and the windows opened by about 2 inches. There were security catches but the most dangerous window had a wobbly screw that wouldn't take much to fall out. There was no air flow. Downstairs the floors were cold. We found lots of silver fish amongst the crockery. The garden itself was beautiful but difficult to enjoy as the garden furniture should have been returned to the 1900's, paint flaking off and the most uncomfortable chairs imaginable. It wouldn't take much for the property to up it's game and could be fabulous. The cleanliness in the kitchen area was not great as the paint from the walls was flaking and it never felt clean. Even on a bright sunny day, you needed lights on as it was so dark. It was so nearly good.
