What our customers say about their holidays

The Wesley was a beautifully appointed apartment and in a lovely quiet location, and had its own parking space which is such a bonus, but we had two major issues upon arrival.
Firstly, the apartment had not been cleaned! There was dirty bed linen in the bedrooms, dirty towels in the bathrooms, and clearly the kitchen had not been cleaned and the whole apartment had obviously not been vacuumed. I called immediately and the cleaners arrived within 10 minutes, but Stuart who I spoke to and the cleaners both blamed each other for the lack of cleaning, so we never actually got to the bottom of why the flat had not been cleaned. We had travelled 4 and a half hours from Solihull in the West Midlands for this break, so we really did not need this hassle upon arrival. Then the next day the toilet flush in the en suite broke, so I had to call Stuart again. The male cleaner who came the previous day mentioned that he had to do something to the button mechanism on the flush when he came to clean the en suite. Again, this was fixed straight away with a new mechanism and the owners did send some lovely flowers as an apology for both incidents, which was a nice gesture which we appreciated. There were other small things too ie.there is no proper drainer on the kitchen worktop, there are no grooves, so we had to put a tea towel under any pots which we washed and dried (although we did use the dishwasher most of the time). The flat was lovely and cosy, but the heating system was baffling and it took us ages to work out how to use it, the manual in the kitchen was no help because it was too complicated. Some basic instructions for this would be helpful. The towels were tiny; the hand towel was more like a flannel and the bath towels were too small. There were no kitchen towels, only tea towels. There was a parking space, which was a real bonus, but the parking disc in the apartment said Flat 2, not Flat 1, and on the instructions to the flat it said itâs parking space was marked â1â, which it wasnât, so we parked in one close by and made our own car parking disc with âFlat 1â on it and put it in the windscreen of our car. We just felt that the lack of attention to detail spoilt the holiday a little for us. The master bedroom en suite didnât have a bath mat, and obviously itâs slippery getting out of a shower. I had to borrow the one from my friend who was in the other bedroom. They are only tiny things (other than the lack of cleaning and broken toilet), but just meant that the shine was knocked off it a bit. Would we come again? Yes, probably, if we thought all the above had been addressed.

Where does one start?
Port View is one of three apartments on different floors (number 5), above us was the quiet number 6, but on the top (number 7) was a different kettle of fish. Our first night was ruined by the noisy sounds of a music rave which lasted until the early hours of Saturday. We had an inkling something was wrong when around 4pm on the Friday afternoon, when a number of people entered the complex (our apartment is right by the front door) shouting on the stairs etc, and our concerns grew when loud music began to play. The volume increased during the evening and at that point we were thinking of going home. We went out for a meal hoping on our return everything would have quieted down. No such luck, in fact on our return we saw for ourselves one young man shouting from a top window, the entry code to the complex to his mates below on the road. Consequently more people entered the building and we began to feel nervous of what could happen to us. Next day we informed Sykes and to their credit got things sorted out with a promise we would not be disturbed again. (Port View is the only apartment under Sykesâ control) The rest of the week was quiet, but it did leave us on edge waiting for something else to kick off. Another problem about Port View is where it is. We read the owners instructions on how to find the apartment which were wholly inadequate and poorly written, in fact it needed a phone call to the very helpful manager (Sue) prior to going, to sort out how to approach the building. Another hassle was the parking of the car in the allotted parking space. Our car is a Mini but we still found it tight. One morning we entered the garage to find another car parked right by us which would have prevented us from accessing the car (by luck we hadnât planned using it), if we had it would have required one of us to open the car window and squeeze through head first!! Overall it was a hard holiday, unable to really feel relaxed, with concerns over apartment 7, and issues with the parking. This leads to the question of Port Viewâs suitability as a holiday let, and should it really be included in Sykesâ portfolio? Can I end stating once again that the company did a great job in handling our problems and concerns, we had no complaints about the comfort of Port View either, but needless to say , we will not be coming back.

Sat 07 Sept 24 - Thurs 12th Sept 24 We are very disappointed in our stay at this apartment as primarily our reason for choosing it and what we paid for fell short in the following areas.
Firstly Iâd like to address what was advertised in the description which we simply didnât have. (I have screenshots of the apartment description if u need to see them) A Smart TV. There was no tv in this property whatsoever and we wouldnât have booked if we knew this. We have a small child with us and on rainy days we could have used a smart tv to watch a movie, also it would have been nice to have the morning news on everyday. A Microwave, there was no microwave which made it very difficult to warm our babies milk in the morning and night and also warm up baby food throughout the day. The large extractor fan above the kitchen island doesnât work and created lots of smoke when cooking. The extractor on the wall isnât fit for purpose and is the opposite side of the kitchen. The garden is half finished. Not very nice to look at, and should feature in the photos as we were under the impression weâd have a recently refurbished garden as advertised. There wasnât enough warm water for 4 people to have a quick shower each morning. This meant our son had a cold shower most mornings and there was no warm water throughout the day until 2pm. This again wasnât advertised. The WiFi is incredibly slow as well. This combined with no tv meant we couldnât even stream movies on our phones very well. I look forward to seeing what compensation u can offer based on the simple fact that what was advertised and paid for wasnât provided. As a business owner myself, if I advertise a product and donât deliver on what I advertised, I cannot in good faith charge for something that is essentially false advertisement. Kind Regards, Tony

Lovely light airy apartment , spotlessly clean with a lovely decking area to sit and enjoy a morning cuppa.
A nice central area to go visit lots of lovely places. Can highly recommend a trip on the ferry to the beautiful StMawes with a lovely meal at The Rising Sun. Or go to one of the many lovely beaches within a 40 minute drive such as Gyllanvase, Pentewan beach, St Ives-Porthminster beach . There's also the magical Lost gardens of heligan. Just a few things that could improve our stay would have been- a small welcome pack of milk , etc as it was quite late when we arrived. We appreciate the space in the apartment is for 2 but the shower cubicle is small particularly for guys, and the bed is quite small also and there was no dishcloth to wash up with. It would be helpful to have a visitors book with recommendations of where to eat , visit etc as if you don't know the area this would be help. We did thoroughly enjoy our stay .
