What our customers say about their holidays

The cottage was as described, however, the remoteness and road conditions were not what we were expecting.
It also was not as welcoming as most Sykes aquired cottages. It doesn't come close to the cottage we stayed in in Northern Ireland and both have four ticks. The cottage was very spacious and comfortable. Not having wifi is a drawback and never could get a signal on the TV. We were there to sightsee so that wasn't a big issue. There was no information booklet with nearby stores and/or restaurants and to operate appliances. Ovens are different across the pond, but we figured it out. We had stopped in Fort Augustus and bought what we thought we would need. We had also read about the Whitebridge Hotel restaurant. We recommend it but make a reservation!! One evening they were full and couldn't seat us. We did manage to get takeout burgers! The washer and dryer were greatly appreciated. Also, no instructions on the gate. There were sheep all around the cottage so we made sure the gate was always closed. This is a great place if you want to just relax and enjoy your surroundings. If you are sightseeing plan on a lot of driving. Someplace to hang wet towels in the master bath would be nice.

TERRIBLE SERVICE FROM OWNERS!
!! Do not recommend booking here at all as if felt very unhygienic. The owners completely forgot we were arriving!! There were kids lounging around in the house and rushed out as they did a âquick cleanâ. It felt very dirty to stay in as the property has obviously been lived in. The kitchen was dirty, there were crumbs all over the kitchen table and coffee table in the living room. The floor was dirty and unhoovered. Worst part was that the owners first avoided us/ any complaints and then finally refused to compensate us in any way at all (after we left the property). If you have troubles with your experience/accommodation here then it is completely up to them how much they wish to compensate you. We left a day early due to the poor service and still they couldnât compensate us in the slightest. Sykes cottages or other booking agents will not be able to help you either. Terrible experience and I wouldnât recommend it to anyone.

This property is in a lovely, secluded location in the Highlands, perfect if you need to escape.
It's 15 mins from Fort Augustus where you can find all the amenities you need. The view from the property is beautiful, you can spend a lot of time wildlife spotting - as well as the cattle and sheep, there were hares, deer, and Ospreys. Would highly recommend having a meal at the Whitebridge hotel up the road (1 mile), great hosts, food and atmosphere. The cottage itself was clean and comfortable. It could have been great if there was a little more attention to detail. It was disappointing to see that comments other visitors have made have not been heeded - the oven still doesn't have markings on it, making it a guessing game. It's an Ikea oven so we looked it up online to try and work it out. The shower in the main bathroom does not get hot, and thus was rendered useless for the stay. Some smaller things like loose fittings, but nothing major. Overall a nice base to explore the Highlands, but just needs that finer detail sorting.

This is a very nice first floor apartment in a good location.
We found it warm & comfortable with most things we needed provided. A better kitchen knife would be most useful. There was only a tiny paring knife & a very long carving knife, both of which were totally blunt & so not at all effective. However we managed, another time I would bring a knife just in case. The only other thing to mention is that the bath/shower drainage hole was almost completely blocked, water taking a very long time to drain away. I had to remove a very large amount of matted hair & 'gunk' from the drain, There was a high strength drain clearing gel (well used) in the cupboard so I think this must have been a problem for a while! Perhaps mention to the cleaner that this should be regularly cleared of hair? Overall a good place to stay which would be improved with these minor changes.

An absolute joy staying 30th Jun for 7 nights.
Ample room for 2 people.Spotlessly clean and all you need for your break. So peaceful and surrounded by nature which suits us fine. First day for example had a visit in front of us at lochside of a kingfisher sitting waiting for a fish which was caught and returned to its perch plus many sightings including pair of black throated divers. Plenty walks around the grounds and places of interest easy driving with breathtaking scenery. Hotel serves fab scones and coffee/tea and delicious dinner ( best to book ahead for dinner). Janetta is on hand for any problems or advice .Although we didnt require any assistance always good to know she was there for us. So thank you for your service and giving us the most relaxing break in the Boathouse Dave & Chris
