What our customers say about their holidays
Allan - Verified booking
Kentmere Fell Views holiday cottage is set at the end of a quite valley, lovely views.
The cottage is reached down a 4 mile single track road that is not for the faint hearted, very few of the locals are inclined to back up so allow plenty of time for the trip. The tractors go very fast. On arrival the porch was dirty and dusty. We found several unserviceable items including one of the 2 hobs in the main kitchen (owner aware but not fixed) there are another 2 in the âsmall kitchenâ. Having to use the 3 available hobs over 2 kitchens to cook the same thing in 2 pans did not make meals a family dining experience. It is also a safety risk moving between kitchens with hot pans. Noting it is a 6 person property induction pans big enough to cook for 6 would be useful addition. Be aware the âfan Ovenâ icon on the dial was the defrost setting. There is nowhere to store groceries in the main kitchen. The oven in the small kitchen made a terrible noise, also note the âfan Ovenâ icon on the dial was the defrost setting (no instruction book available). The downstairs shower/toilet door does not close from the outside, a hygiene issue at it is the only door between the 2 kitchens and you have to walk past it when using the other hobs. With the induction hob in the main kitchen needing induction pans. The pans were mixed up between the 2 kitchens. Very small kitchen can use conventional pans. The general level of cleanliness was poor, dust and debris in main rooms particularly around the bottom of the fridge/freezer and cookers. The ârusticâ table had mouldy food in the cracks (hygiene issue). We could not use the main oven because it was filthy and had the most awful smell. The Information pack was in poor condition, loose and dirty pages. It would be a good idea to print out new sheets and laminate. Especially after Covid. In the information age it could be made available along with all manuals online, e.g. a Dropbox folder, you could then view before arrival. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/jw2b3r3mwujyrdzcfjui7/ADPGqTeLKUHk8NJOexZnqD8?rlkey=ldmwb566rul780bgqbnvn0sa6&st=7g6fmt37&dl=0 We arrived on the Sunday, informed Lakelovers the owner of the problems, cleaners came on Tuesday to clean the oven. Tradesmen came on the Wednesday to look at the oven in the small kitchen. My Granddaughters are 12 and 7. It was not a pleasant experience to witness cleaners and tradesmen coming in twice. Indeed, seeing the state of the oven and the smell. We did take photos of all the issues. We went out to eat. We would not recommend; the owner was more interested in what we paid than the issues. Lakelovers informed us the owner was aware of the hotplate not working. Lakelovers and the owner have been informed and hopefully will address all the issues for future guests.

Kitchen surfaces/ oven and bathrooms very clean.
Bathrooms lovely and very modern. Overall though, house is quite dusty in places, with a number of cobwebs throughout. They donât bother us much, as we live in a rural area, but I can imagine would be off-putting to some guests. I did an online shop with Morrisons for when we arrived, but found I couldnât use much of the cupboards or freezer when unpacking my shopping. Freezer is in desperate need of defrosting. Once I had removed all the ice trays and broken freezer doors that were stored inside it - I managed to use one of the shelves for my food. Iâd say itâs currently around 50% ice - so needs attention. Itâs definitely a âhome away from homeâ as felt lived in and is lovely and warm. Everything you could need is in the kitchen - but it is bordering being cluttered. All of the cupboards and drawers in the kitchen are full. I unpacked/tidied one of the cupboards and moved items around, so that I could store my shopping. It would have been nice to have just one empty cupboard to unpack my shopping into. I understand itâs a dog friendly place, so again we can turn a blind eye, but there was dog poo around the front of the house and on the grass, which was nothing to do with our dogs. We removed what we saw so the kids could play outside. We are very vigilant with picking up after our dogs, but realise some people arenât - so this is not the fault of the cleaners really, itâs just annoying. The furniture in the tv room is tired and somewhat uncomfortable, but the furniture in the second living space is lovely, with a lovely view. Finally, the lighting throughout is tricky. Only the kitchen and bathrooms have ceiling lights. The rest of the rooms have just one or two lamps. This was ok for some of us, but my Mum, for example, struggled to read upstairs and opted to get ready in the bathroom due to the lighting in her bedroom. We therefore spent most of our family time in the kitchen, eating, chatting and playing games around the big table, which was great. I think overall, nice enough, but maybe a bit too expensive for what it is. We wouldnât stay again. But have enjoyed our holiday away from it all. Thanks.

Magical. Recently fitted out to a high standard with a stylish blend of modern and period furniture, fittings and tableware.
All mod cons including washer dryer, dishwasher, underfloor heating, great showers and good cooking pans. Wifi worked fine for browsing and wifi calling but mobile signal was not reliable on its own. There is also a landline for emergencies. Remote location at the head of the Kentmere valley with beautiful scenery. Fells up behind the house, flat fields with sheep down the valley. 30 minute drive to Troutbeck, or 90-120 min hike over the hill. 10 minute drive to Staveley, which has a refurbished brewery venue, a butcher, a pub, and a well provisioned Spar store open late. Accurate directions. Worth adding that when you turn left from Kentmere Church, there is a small sign saying "no parking" on the verge of the turning itself, and that the road turns to gravel road briefly. The key collection process was no bother. Jim Sharp, the owner, rang to check we were all OK. He has provided great local recommendations including hiking routes in the information pack in the cottage. My only flags would be that the sliding doors between the bedrooms and the main living area are quite thin, so the first person up may wake the others. Worked fine for us as siblings and a parent, but might be a consideration for family groups. Also to flag that the Technics stereo has an aux jack but no aux cable, so bring that with you if you want to connect. Overall, a magical stay. We can't wait to return

Yew Tree cottage is an absolutely stunning cottage on a lovely little hamlet in the north lakes.
The cottage is furnished to a high standard and facilities provided are fantastic. The beds are super comfy and it is so quiet in the village that you get such a good nights sleep. Our only criticism would be that the smoke alarms in the kitchen/dining area are so sensitive that they go off even when using the toaster- if this could be addressed, that would definitely be an improvement. The garden is so special and has been carefully designed to allow you to relax and enjoy being amongst the wildlife. You definitely need a car in order to stay at this property as there is no public transport nearby- the nearest pub being in the next village at Great Strickland. With a car however, it is ideally located to be able to visit lots of lovely towns such as Keswick, Grasmere, Penrith, Ambleside and other attractions such as Lowther Castle, the Jersey Ice Cream Farm, and Askham Hall. I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing time in the north lakes. The hosts do a brilliant job at making your stay extremely comfortable and offer those added touches to make it even more special - including a gorgeous bunch of wild flowers from the garden and delicious homemade blueberry muffins - it is a very special place to stay.

My family recently stayed at The Boundary with our friends and their daughter over the New Year.
The house is perfectly located and only a 10 minute walk max to the centre of Windermere. Iâm Not sure if the description of the property adds that there is a large field and park at the front for the children. My little boy loved the park! There is a small cafe at the end of the lane (we didnât try here) that looks lovely and also a premier shop incase you need any further groceries. The house itself was very clean and you can see it was recently renovated. All amenities and board games are also new. They do provide tea, coffee, biscuits and cleaning products like washing up liquid and towels. Everything that was needed was provided for a short stay at this property which made our stay very easy. The bedrooms were small and cosy but enough and all that was needed. Bedding and towels were fresh and clean. We couldnât find an iron or board so unsure if these are provided. The only downfall to the property is the pressure of the water in the showers. It wasnât the best but was adequate Overall I would highly recommend here for a lovely stay in the lakes, we will for sure be back.
