What our customers say about their holidays

This is a beautiful property in lovely surroundings.
A nice welcome pack was left including a bottle of prosecco. There is a well laid out open plan kitchen, dining and living area with a veranda and seating with extensive views to the lake and the hills opposite. Our weather was unfortunately not good enough to let us use it more than twice. There was a good range of board games in the lounge. Having good views also comes at a slight cost in that the property is at the top of quite a steep hill. We didnât find this a great problem despite two of our party being in their 70s. The three bedrooms were roomy and comfortable with 2 having en-suite bathrooms. We had some doubt about what the cleaners had done before our arrival. The bathroom floors had been mopped, but the floor still had loose mop strands or (dog) hair on the floor. One of our party spent an hour âhooveringâ up (dog) hair and spider webs (some with residents) from room corners and along door frames. There was also a pair of pants that had been there for some time on one of the outdoor decks. The main TV in the lounge is a Sky Glass unit that I believe is directly connected to broadband. While we had no problems with laptops or phones using the wi-fi the TV regularly had sync issues between the picture and sound. Our solution was to watch it on âcatch upâ after the programme had been running for several minutes. As said above, this is a lovely property in a great location, and would definitely considerate it again for a holiday. We notice from the ownerâs replies to other comments that they are planning some extensive upgrades next year. Can I suggest then, consideration be given putting full length mirrors in the bedrooms, preferably close to a power point, so ladies can use a hair dryer near a mirror. One bedroom only had a mirror in the bathroom with a razor point. Alternatively, a dressing table with a mirror near a power point would be good.

There are lots of positives about the house.
Great location and on a quiet road too. Didn't have a problem parking but we staying midweek so can't say what it would be like at the weekend. The front area is gated so great for ensuring dogs (and little children) can't get onto the road. It's only 5 minute walk to the town centre and also to Hope Park (which is lovely by the river if want to take children to a play area) nice cafe in the park too. Can also watch cricket match! The house is well provisioned, great kitchen with plenty of worktops. Comfy furniture in the lounge area although it is compact so if six people sitting in the lounge I can imagine it's a little cosy. Didn't use the fire as visit in May but looks great. Bedrooms are good size and the bed we used in the main bedroom was firm which we like. Bathrooms are great size with walk in showers. Water was hot and the one time heating came on (not sure why) heaters were hot very quickly. Nice back yard that got the morning sun. The few negatives are: Couldn't close the door on the dishwasher so handwashed, not a problem as only two of us. But would need resolving. Light bulbs out in a few lights in dining area, couldn't get main light over the table to work. Garden chairs in yard are very rusty so couldn't sit on them when it was nice in the yard, but there was a bench which was fine. I noticed someone fed back that the decor is 'tired', but it's fine, especially as this is a holiday home and will get heavy use. It's also an old house so there will be some cosmetic issues that show but it doesn't detract from the clear efforts that the owners have put into renovating the house and making it comfortable for the stay. Would we stay in the house again, yes. It has everything needed for a nice break in the Lake District and was reasonable in price to rent.

We stayed at Jasper's Retreat in November for a week.
Weather wasn't brilliant but still found plenty to do. There was 6 of us and 3 dogs. There was plenty of room for all. The accommodation was big and roomy but still cosy. The underfloor heating and fire was great on the chilly evenings. The bathrooms were fab as was the walk in showers. Plenty of hot water. The bedrooms are a great size and the beds were very comfortable and all have good sized TVs. The kitchen had everything you could of wished for...plenty of cutlery, plates, dishes, mugs, glasses etc. The dining room table is big with plenty of elbow room and the furniture in the seating area is big and comfortable. Great size T.V too. The views are spectacular. I would love to go again in the summer months to be able to sit outside and look at those views. We did have a power cut due to storm Debi arriving but it really didn't bother us as we had torches and it didn't last that long, only around half hour. Great shopping in the town too. Good choice of restaurants and pubs. The dogs loved it too and didn't get under each others paws as there was plenty of room for them. They are biggish dogs too...Rottweiler, Alsatian and a medium sized rescue dog. Great field just up the hill for them to have a run round and also a park area down by the lake which is very secure and fenced off. Thank you for a great stay. We will no doubt be back.

Spend a lovely week here with family.
There was a range of ages in our party. Myself and my husband and our 23 month old. There was also both sets of grandparents ranging from from 70 to 80 years, and 2 dogs. The house was beautiful and spacious, and has everything you could need. Gorgeous views across the lake and beyond and lovely outside furniture if you get nice weather. Itâs quite a steep hill to and from the cottage but thereâs a gentler route, if you turn left down the first bit of hill when coming out of the cottages street and then turn right onto a side street, it brings you out at a childrenâs playground and The Angel Inn pub and itâs not so steep to head out on foot. We had an issue with the hob not heating up and we tried everything, Sykes were really quick to get someone out to us. Turns out the big blue pan is not compatible with an induction hob, so really it needs removing so you doesnât happen again. The house has lots of board games which was great and the sky glass tv had movies and sports and Netflix so it was perfect for relaxing after a long day. We absolutely loved our trip and will definitely be back to Jaspers Retreat.

Jaspers retreat is a beautiful property with stylish and quality furnishings.
It was cosy and comfortable, and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. This is truly a home from home and we would definitely return. The open plan kitchen, dining and living area was a joy.. well thought out and with stunning lake views. The bedrooms and bathrooms were beautiful and I can honestly say the beds were the most comfortable we have slept in over the 14 years we have been visiting the lakes. The outside balcony area was lovely, unfortunately we didnât have enough of a dry spell to make much use of it, but a lovely place to sit and take in the views. One small point was that the decking felt like it needed a little attention.. and being so high up it could make you a little nervous to walk on. There isnât much of a useable garden, which is a shame as we love a garden, but we knew this before we booked so it wasnât a surprise. The location was great, and gave fabulous views, but those with walking difficulties would struggle with the climb back up the hill. All in all, Jaspers retreat is a joy. Thank you for sharing
