  COVID 19 Holiday!

  !! Change of scene from usual four walls. Only reason we went in the end. Having spoken to one of your reps we were told that check in and out had changed for deep cleaning!!. This property had not been deep cleaned at all. On entering the property there was a strong smell of disinfectant and a thick layer of "dirty" dust on the skirting board in the entrance porch. There was dust on all skirtings and large cobwebs in the downstairs WC with spiders. There is also an extractor fan in this WC which does not work. Not sure where the vent goes and there does not appear to be an isolator switch. We were asked to remove disposable pillowcase covers (did not use pillows as we took our own). Also to remove bedding and place in the laundry bag provided. This was to include fitted sheet, duvet cover and mattress protector. There were no mattress protectors on any of the beds!!! Something which should be standard and changed anyway. There was very little in the way of kitchen utensils and crockery etc, notices provided stated that items had been removed due to the current pandemic. There was no TV or DVD recorder in the bedroom as stated in the details. Also as this is a family orientated cottage there was no plastic crockery etc for kiddies. No small glasses for adults either. A DVD player in the main lounge area would have been useful. The TV was not tuned in to BBC so used our account to watch iplayer. There were only 2 mirrors in the whole of the property (sorry 3 1 fixed in the bathroom). A large mirror at the bottom of the stairs and a small mirror in the small twin bedded room. No mirror in the master bedroom. Nowhere to hang clothes in the twin bedded room. For a cottage which sleeps 6 only 2 small wardrobes. Get the distinct impression this cottage was renovated and stuck straight on the market for rental Bathroom has a skylight which if you dont have tall members in the family cannot be accessed. There was no broom to sweep the kitchen, nor a laundry basket and nowhere to dry clothes outside a clothes airer is provided but obviously outside this is quite unstable and not ideal. The whole of the outside of the property was very dull and uninviting. The yard was quite unkempt. Provision should be made by the owners for all rubbish to be removed from the dustbins by the "cleaning company". The large dustbin was quite full and is only emptied once every 3 weeks. It is therefore up to the people in the property after us to put it out on Monday. This needs to be dragged down an alleyway to the rear of the property back to the front courtyard area which is not ideal. Family had also booked a cottage through Sykes, Menai Collection which was different again. Their check in and out had not been changed. There was a abundance of kitchen utensils etc. etc. We have booked through Sykes before and have returned to a cottage in Cornwall on many occasions booking direct with the owner. That too is a 4* property.

  A really lovely Easter break with our family. Helen made us feel very welcome chatting to her down by her horses. Very spacious cottage for our family of 8 adults 2 children, a baby and our dog. Very clean. Esspecially enjoyed a coffee in the conservatory in the sun in the mornings while watching the guineafowls chasing each other around the huge garden. Living area had a nice big difference dining table which fitted us all around and nice big couches. The log burner was lovely and plenty of logs provided. Both bathrooms very clean, plenty of towels for us all and nice hot showers and a bath up stairs for the children. Spacious bedrooms with plenty of wardrobe and draw space in each hand room. The surroundings were beautiful and very well maintained, my daughter particularly enjoyed walking down to the horses and feeding them apples. We had a lovely walk from the cottage ok Easter Sunday about 30 minutes through the woods, along the fields and down to llanbedrog beach. Helen was lovely and happy to help with anything we asked. We would definatekt return. The cottage is in an ideal location about 10 minutes from abersoch and 5 minute drive from llanbedrog with a lovely beach beach bar and a few nice pubs.   A magical Christmas.

  .. The moment we arrived was just an amazing experience, beyond our expectations. There were 4 adults and 3 children staying for an amazing Christmas time and this property didn’t let us down. Walking in everyone was in awe, such a beautiful design and furnishing was of a very high standard throughout. We wished our 5 day stay was longer from the get go. We ventured out on Christmas Eve to the local pub (Glyntwrog - 5 minute walk) for a couple of merry drinks but couldn’t wait to return. Christmas Day was unreal, the kids woke us up at 3,4 and 6am although we were just as excited. Theres so much space here, we were all playing games throughout the day, then switched to a movie on the huge TV. Turkey was perfect even if I do say so myself, really helped with the two double ovens and kitchen space to prepare everything. I can’t praise this place enough, I wouldn’t hesitate to book again...and I will! Will definitely recommend to friends and family to stay also. Thank you for making our Christmas 2019 so amazing, treasured memories we will never forget.

  We throughly enjoyed our weeks stay.

  Capel Mawr was very comfortable, furnished and equipped to a high standard. Only some minor attention to detail that we would like to point out for future benefit - The heating seemed to be on constant, even when we thought we had turned it off! The owner could save a fortune in heating bills if this was sorted out. Dusty bedside lamps. Sensor lights in bathroom turned off whilst in the shower / bath, which was inconvenient but made sure we left the door open to the bedroom for light! Would have been helpful to have had more tea towels, washing up liquid, kitchen roll, bin liners, unless you point out that guests should bring these along. Really only attention to detail, small issue that can be sorted, no major issues at all. Capel Mawr is a fab property which is well located for Snowdon, Llanberris, Forest walks, Betws-y-Coed, Portmeirion. Local chippy worth a visit for supper. Spice restaurant or takeaway recommended. Peak restaurant in Llanberris excellent but you need to book ahead. Plenty to do out and about, or just chill out in this lovely house.

  We have stayed in many holiday cottages in Criccieth through Sykes over 20yrs.

  Maes - Y - Haf was perfect for us, family of 4 (two boys aged 10 & 14). Perfectly situated in Criccieth town centre, sea and castle views from the front, sun setting at the rear. Cosy, homely, clean and everything you need to relax and really enjoy your surroundings. Lots of storage, towels included, washing up liquid, dish cloth, dishwasher tablets, toilet rolls, and hand wash all available to use (we always take our own). Lots of good restaurants in walking distance including Dylan’s, The Poachers, The Prince of Wales, The Spice Bank and of course your choice of fish and chips shops! Castle and beach in walking distance. We won’t hesitate in booking this lovely home again, a real find.
