What our customers say about their holidays

This is the worse place that I've ever stayed.
I had such an awful, uncomfortable time and I came away from the property ill. The electric storage heaters don't give off enough heat. I guess they expect you to use the gas heater (not advertised), which we were forced to do, however, I have asthma so after just 2 uses of the fire, I had the start of an irritation on my chest that developed into a chest infection. Also, the fire is temperamental. It's not fun trying to light a faulty gas fire. There are no instructions in the property. We had to google to find out how to use the grill on the oven. There were no games, just jigsaw puzzles. The DVD's are just thrillers...? I notice that in May 2023 they had feedback about a faulty shower yet they have clearly done nothing about it as the shower is either boiling hot or freezing cold. The bed was so uncomfortable that I really didn't sleep. My husband slept a little but he found the bed very small. The place was very dirty. I find it a bit cheeky that they request £20 per dog when they don't clean anything. There were so many cobwebs, surfaces were dusty, stains on the sofa, the knobs on the cooker were dirty, there was a lot of dirt behind the sofa when we pulled it out, the bin was dirty and there was a stain on the mattress protector!! I was not made aware before travel of opening hours of the hosting house so we had no access to cooked breakfast, cream tea etc. Combined with the cold, chest irritation and lack of sleep; I became so ill by the third day that I cried my eyes out and wanted to go home. We had to stay because it was Christmas and because we had paid so much money. I tried to have a bath but being a larger lady, I couldn't because they have a bath that becomes narrow for some reason!! They couldn't just have a standard bath for us fatties! We also felt extremely uncomfortable to say anything to the owners with it being the time of year. To top it off, they were closed way after opening on the day we were leaving when we were trying to get hold of them to pay the outstanding money owed.

The Stable is pleasant and the hot tub is really good, but the thing that's not clear on the photos is that it's in the driveway of the host's house and all windows can be overseen by their house.
This might not be an issue to some but the fact you had to have all blinds and curtains closed (as it's all one room) to get dressed (or if you don't want to be seen in your pyjamas!) meant we spent more than we would've liked of the stay in the dark. The bathroom is fine, I'm not sure why there aren't pictures on the listing. It could do with a proper clean though. The central heating thermostat is directly above the single radiator so it's very difficult to get the space warm before the central heating cuts out. The kitchen is good and well equipped, everything you need to cook a Sunday roast. The track to gain access to the property is very rutted and any car that's even slightly lower will ground out, an SUV or 4x4 is required really. An Audi A3 is not suitable and struggled to get along the track. Charging £5 a bag for logs seems pretty unreasonable given the cost of staying here, the 'starter' logs were used up very quickly. Ross on Wye is nearby as is Symonds Yat, well worth a visit. If you're looking for somewhere to stay in this area this might suit, if, like us, you were looking for a great property to explore any area, there are better options with better views and more privacy.

Really enjoyed our stay over new year with our dog.
Area is nice to explore on foot or drive further afield to see historical sights. Briefly met our hosts who seem nice. The cottage itself is very nice and attached to the main home. Very clean and well presented. The small Xmas tree, lights and Xmas cushions were a lovely touch. Sitting in the conservatory is so peaceful and comfortable. Kitchen has all you need for staying in to cook, just remember to bring any oils, etc. The bed was very comfortable, but for some reason the duvet felt narrow for 2 of us. The bathroom is compact, with everything you need, but the shower lacks a bit in power. NOTE: As much as the steep ladder-like stairs were mentioned on the listing, I didnât take on board just how steep. My fault, but anyone with mobility issues of any kind (or even fear of heights) should not book this cottage. I was a bit of an effort with my bad back and leg! Also if staying on your own it could be awkward to get any bags up too.

Lovely Cottage, much larger than we were expecting and I would say roomy for 2 people.
This is a super cottage and so peacful, the sunroom lounge is such a lovely qualty and a wonderful place to sit day or night when the stars are amazing. Attached to the owners home you really wouldn't have known it, apart from the friendly welcome on arrival. We had everything we needed, plenty of storage everywhere and space for walking boots, coats etc.The quality of furniture is excellent and the hard floors throughout downstairs means they are nice and clean too. Good location with plenty of places to visit and walk inc nice off road walks from the door. To be super fussy maybe the bathroom could do with a fresh paint and new flooring, especially as the shower & tiles look brand new. Will definately be returning. Good value and I can't imagine why its not 4 ticks unless it's the steps to the bedroom that are knocking it down? but actually we liked these and just added to the charm of the place.
