What our customers say about their holidays

  • Carla - Verified booking

    This property was beautiful.

It was clean and tidy and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. BEWARE!! We booked it specifically for the hot tub and it's privacy. The hot tub was amazing but we only got it for 2 nights out of our 3 night stay!!!! We were told to stop using it after 6pm on the last night so it could be cleaned down the next occupants. This was not made clear in the listing and if it had been, we would definitely NOT have booked it. We felt forced to go out on the last night so they could access the property to clean, empty and refill the hot tub for the next guests (who by-the-way didn't arrive until 3pm the following day!!!) When we came back it was still being refilled for several hours so we closed the curtains and sat watching TV in the cottage on our last night in stead of getting the last use of the hot tub. This was not what we paid for. We paid to have use of the hot tub for 3 nights and this totally spoiled the holiday, we were not impressed. Our Son was particularly disappointed because this cottage was his choice specifially for the use of the hot tub . I can't believe they did this and get away with it, we felt like we were an inconvience to them. You wouldn't do this is any other setting and be allowed to get away with it. If they needed time to prepare the hot tub for the next guests this should have been factored into their time not ours!!! In the future they should NOT book another occupant for the following day. There should be a gap between the bookings so they have time to clean and prepare the hot tub for the next guests. Our last night was totally ruined and it was a shame because we were really enjoying our stay. We used the hot tub of an evening so we could relax after a day of exploring the area. I would never book this venue again which is such a shame. I dont want to spend a full day disputing with the owner by text message while we were on a day trip. This really upset the family. If people don't want to use the hot tub this is a lovely cottage. However if you book it specifically for the hot tub, don't bother!! If you book 2 nights you will only get use of the hot tub for one night....this is a total rip-off. I will be seeking a partial refund for all the inconvenience.

The setting was lovely and the house comfortable enough but there were a few things that let it down badly but could easily be rectified.

    1. The beds were not the size described which made for a not so comfortable stay for some, the king size bed listed is not King size and the one in the third bedroom on the first floor by the bathroom is not a standard double but a small double which is not big enough for 2 adults and the mattress is shocking! 2. The shower room has a shower that floods 3. The grounds are not secure as you would expect for somewhere that is dog friendly. 4. There was horrible rubbish on the lawn which was not only dangerous to our dog but to the abundant wildlife there. The first day the dog picked up a large lump of plastic which was obviously part of a meat packaging and this was in the middle of the lawn near the hot tub and I was lucky to have seen her do it and been able to prize it from her mouth or we would without a doubt have ended up in the vets with a very sick animal and huge bill. When I followed the dog I found the source - a large bonfire site at one end of the garden by the pond, strewn with half burned nappies, bread products, bones, plastic meat and fish containers, veg, black bin bags etc etc, it was disgusting and a health hazard for animals and small children and quite shocking in such a beautiful setting. We filled 2 large bags of the detritus in order to keep my dog, other animals and children safe not something you would expect to find anywhere. There was also another black sack full of rubbish left all weekend by one of the entry gates which a wild animal has obviously attacked, can't understand it! 5, There wasn't an adequate number of plates for 10 people and serving dishes, knives were blunt and one of the ovens didn't work. That said there were lovely scones and a few basics left to start you off and basic household items left for arrival which was a great touch and made life so much easier. Lovely setting and house, just needs a few tweaks and finishing touches and it would live up to the blurb and photos.

    ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

Thank you all so much. We have had a fantastic week, firstly with our family over the weekend, and then with friends. The house and grounds are spectacular and we have enjoyed exploring it all. Our grandchildren loved the playground and zip wire and adults enjoyed boule and croquet but the snooker table and hot tub were a massive hit with everyone. We visited Foremark Reservoir and Staunton Harold reservoir - good for walks, coffee, ice creams and great playgrounds for the little ones. We had drinks at local pubs and a meal at the Mount Pleasant but spent lots of our time enjoying the house and grounds - it was great to be able to spread out in all the rooms. The house was spotlessly clean on our arrival - all credit to Mandy and her team. Beds were comfy, towels fluffy and the welcome pack was a very pleasant surprise and a lovely touch - thank you! The highlight of the week was meeting David who has been an amazing host throughout. He is so friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. We have loved chatting to him and hearing all about his farming past, the history of Mill Farm and his family. We take away a week of amazing memories and special time spent with family and friends and definitely hope to return again some time next year. Many thanks David and Mandy and take care of yourself David! Beverley, Dave, Rob, Lorna, Oscar, Arthur, Mike, Vicky, Amelia, Alfie and James Freer and Rufus the dog. Also Tracey and Michael Hughes and Barry and Ruth Seward xxx

We had a family gathering at Mill Farm for the Jubilee weekend - a party of ten, including 4 kids aged between 3 and 13 years.

It was a dream cottage for us, probably the best we’ve stayed in. A house that was spacious, comfortable and well equipped, and huge beautiful gardens that offered all kinds of pleasures. It’s the kind of place you don’t really need to leave at all to have a lovely stay. The kids loved the play equipment and the hot tub, and we had a great time using all the grounds to play garden games, eat al fresco and relax in the hot tub. The peaceful setting was also a good environment for a variety of wildlife - we spotted deer, woodpecker, swallows and there is even a peacock that visits. Indoors, the snooker table was a big bonus and there are so many books and games provided as well as three tvs! On arrival we found a welcome pack of scones and some thoughtful provisions of milk/bread etc. The website should definitely mention the large fridge freezer and the garden games and BBQ being available as well. Last but not least, Dave is a fabulous welcoming owner and was very helpful. Overall, Mill Farm Farmhouse is a brilliant quality cottage accommodation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and only wished we’d booked for longer. I have a feeling we will be booking again! Thank you to Dave and his friendly helpers.

We had an amazing time in Mill Farm, the house and grounds are stunning and really well maintained by the owner David and Mandy - who were lovely/helpful - thank you both!

We spent a lot of time in the garden playing catch and cricket/rounders.The hot tub was an awesome big plus for both the adults and kids… we ended up staying in more than we planned to as so much to do in the place. With a 6 year old, 10 year old and 14 year old and a grandma with us the big perk was the playground area / garden. Gardens are huge… can go for lovely walks. All secluded and felt safe with kids playing outside. It has a zipline (which was a big hit), trampoline, 4 swings and seesaw etc. Also has a snooker table, lots of games/books. The grounds are huge and great for walks - there is also a public footpath in front of the house fence taking you behind Repton school for a longer walk. We went fruit picking in Scaddows Farm nearby - which was a lovely place with delicious fruit to pick. Kitchen has everything you need equipment wise. Advice to anyone going is 1) do not put the postcode in satnav - as it took us to two different/wrong places in Repton. Type in Milton Derbyshire instead, which took us to the correct Main St in Milton - after no 29 Main st is a red phone box / turn left directly after. 2) take a hair dryer if you need one (but it has everything else iron/ironing board etc).
