What our customers say about their holidays

The cottage was well appointed and of course in a fantastic location with views and access to spectacular scenery.
Overall we had an enjoyable stay but there were niggles and annoyances; we would return again but better prepared through these experiences. The oil-heating system I suspect was a bit past its prime and not fit for purpose; the three ancient-looking radiators in the main room barely took the edge of the cold; we fared better in the bedroom, much more cosy, but only because the owners had thoughtfully supplied electric blankets plus there was double-glazing fitted. On this basis it felt more a spring, summer and autumn property. There was an large open fire in the living room and again the owners had thoughtfully supplied a large basket of wood, firelighters and newspaper - but no matches. I didn't fancy a pitch-black drive along miles of chicaning single track to Pooley Bridge and had to wait for the day after. It would've been useful for the literature to suggest we bring a box or be told this when we contacted the owner/agent about when we expected to arrive. An axe would also have been useful as the wood - and most wood then bought from surrounding villages and B&M and B&Q in Penrith - were Sequoia chunks. I ended up like Mr. Universe bellowing and wafting the grate for hours getting the fire bed hot enough and able to then devour the large chunks on its own. Once the fire was going it was great in the living room but an axe would have been useful to chop these into more manageable pieces initially. We had a RCD blow taking out random, unrelated appliances like the kettle, fridge, Sky Box, TV and WiFi. The info folder made no mention of the fuse box's location; we could not contact the owners as there was no 'phone signal and of course no WiFi. After twenty minutes of 'Hunt the Fuse Box' I eventually located it behind a door with no handle at the back of the living room managing to get a finger in and prise it open. I found in fact no RCD had blown but got power back by pushing the test switch up (...?!). There were one or two other things but it'll just sound like moaning; it was just little, overlooked things that irritated but finally didn't dampen a good stay.

Firstly when you find the place, what can only be described as offload is the only entrance in or out so be aware if you have a low car or low profile tyres.
When we got there the lodge is in garden next to a wall with residential homes directly over the wall. Inside us big enough 2 bedrooms are decent sizes. I didn't feel the place was clean enough windows are filthy with old bird poo crust in. Bathroom fan is extremely loud , the toilet seat is loose and no lock on the door. Unfortunately when we finished ironing one day the socket came straight out the wall this caused a mild shock. Another safety concern was the ramp access, this has very slim anti slip strips that have expired and when wet is very dangerous. And finally got charged £150 for paw prints and what looked like a stain spilled tea? Could have been there already.. I wouldn't recommend taking a dog for this reason and also very dangerous access road . Never stayed the full 4 nights left a day early. Very very disappointing especially after saving and now £160 taken straight off a card and into overdraft. Worse holiday ever

We had a very relaxed and unwinding week in Townhead cottage and were pleasantly surprised by the lovely cottage!
Some positive feedback: Very difficult to carry the luggage over the steep and slippery steps round the back to the door. We put most of it t.hrough the window in the front?! There is a sort of driveway in the back but you would have to drive over the garden/grass from the neighbors, So we didn't. Wifi wasn't working the second day, but fixed immediately after reporting! The bed was extremely low 30 cm?! Would be a reason for me, as a 59 years old man with diabitis, not to return! The bathroom is designed to get wet, quite common in the UK. A shower curtain and a hook to hang the shower head on would be very useful.

We were surprised by a slightly grudging response in the Visitors Book from two previous guests.
This is a beautiful cottage to visit, with wonderful pictures, furnishings and general decor, far better than the basics to be found in most other places. How could you complain about a combination of a stream in spate, excellent wifi, views of Ullswater, red squirrels and a fascinating landscaped extra garden? Access does involve a sometimes awkward approach by road but the walks are varied and exciting. We did experience a problem on the last morning with water supply after plumbers switched off our main supply, but don't let this unpredictable and marginal inconvenience put anyone off a holiday without comparison.

The property is a well maintained, clean and very comfortable in every aspect - from the living room furnishings to the beds.
We could not fault the cottage in anyway. Our 3 and 6 year old girls loved the surrounds, seeing sheep all day and the little extras like the picnic benches are an added bonus where the girls loved having breakfast and lunch outside. The surrounding make the cottage and farm standout even more and in a quiet area away from the main town. Hot tub is extremely well maintained and even though we didnât get as much time to use it as weâd liked, itâs the cherry on the cake! We will sure be back next year and both Roger and Val are very accommodating and lovely hosts - you will not be disappointed!
