What our customers say about their holidays
Christina - Verified booking
We have just returned from the most fantastic holiday in the most beautiful house Megizzy!
Polzeath is a really lovely spot and great if you are a surfer! We took our two adult children with us and our daughters fiancée. We thought Polzeath might be a bit dead at this time of year but it wasnât at all. It had a great vide with all the surfers and many of the shops in the small village were open. The house itself exceeded all our expectations. From the minute we walked through the door we could sense how much this house was loved and it has a really peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. It is a very comfortable house with everything you need and much much more. We all were just able to relax and enjoy the house and the view over the beach and the sea. The kids and my husband all took a couple of surfing lessons with âSurfs upâ surfing school which were excellent and they were able then to just practice on their own after that and came on in leaps and bounds. It felt like a very safe beach in which to learn to surf and progress. We were blessed with exceptional weather and perfect conditions in which to surf. The house has been finished to the highest standard and everything was new and spotless and felt very luxurious! It felt like we were in a 5 star hotel only better! There is ample space in which to spread out and have ones own space or spend time together as a family in the wonderful open plan kitchen, diner and lounge. We enjoyed all the latest up to date mod cons and using an iPad to control all the different mood lightings which was so much fun! We discovered an excellent pub/ restaurant just 5 minutes walk from the house called The Oyster Catcher with really good food and beers, cider etc. What else can one ask for in a holiday?! Oh and also there is a great games room with a dart board, table tennis and also surf boards, SUP board and boogie boards to borrow. There is a really convenient wet room/ utility room which is great for hanging wetsuits, wet towels etc. I would highly recommend taking a holiday in this truly outstanding house which we really hope to return to many more times in the future!

The cottage is in an absolutely fabulous location, with amazing views, is well equipped and we loved our stay.
The bag of goodies on arrival was a really nice touch. Just a few minor things, which didn't affect our holiday, but as feedback has been asked for I thought worth mentioning. Quite a few of the light bulbs had blown - I found a box of bulbs in one of the cupboards so replaced them no problem, but was surprised this wasn't checked by the letting agent. Cleaning was so, so (in particular the smeary glass kitchen cupboards and shower) - we stayed at the very beginning of easter, and it looked like the house hadn't been given the once over prior to arrival. Again minor point, which is maybe the agents fault? There were also inconsistent house instructions; we were sent some info by the agent, and there were 2 files in the house, with differing info eg on bin days (I braved the storms on Monday night as one file said bin collection was Tuesday, only to find it was actually on Friday). Doesn't take much to check that kind of thing, which again is surely the agents responsibility? And probably doing itself disservice not to show photos of the games room in the garage (which is fab) and to promote the lovely welcome food bag. So positives: fab cottage, amazing location, would definitely want to stay again, the online info doesn't do it justice! Negatives: would benefit from more attention to detail in terms of cleaning, and consistent correct cottage information would add to the overall experience. Maybe is it because it's under Sykes management?

We experienced a flood in one of the bedrooms, with water pouring through the ceiling in the early hours, the occupants including a baby had to move rooms.
A bottle of wine had been offered at the beginning of our stay for "a damp patch that had been repaired but not yet decorated". As we accepted the wine John Bray will not accept any responsibility stating that "as we were told of repair work and accepted the goodwill gesture the owners will not compensate" and have advised us to take the owners to court. We would not of accepted the wine if we had known it was more than a damp patch which had not been repaired, resulting in a serious flood. I feel strongly that with the amount of revenue generated, the property should be maintained to a habitable level at the very least. Surely there must be trust on both sides and feel disappointed and let down. We have stayed at Westray on numerous occasions and are very fond of it. but are always surprised at the lack of maintenance and customer welcome offered. Eg no milk, teabags or even salt offered. More seriously, the grill, coffee machine and bedside light faulty, smell of mould in main bedroom, stuck window in top bedroom. These were not reported as we discovered them over the course of the week and did not want to disrupt our holiday. Our only complaint has been the flood and I feel strongly that as the property was not in a habitable state we should be entitled to a partial refund. I hope that the owners are fully aware of these issues.

The property is great of course with amazing views etc, hence the weekly rate.
The bedrooms superb and spacious. The downstairs games room is a real bonus with well above average table tennis and football table fun to be had. We had a really lovely time. The only relatively downside bits were, on arrival all the outside (sea facing) view windows were dirty? (Salty) which meant the views werenât great and so I had to personally clean all the windows myself? Good for my fitness but not exactly what I had in mind on arrival. The tap with the magic instant boiling water feature is useful unless it stops working and there is no kettle? The last two days were a bit frustrating with no boiling water available especially when the maintenance man came round to fix it and said he didnât know how to fix it? Okay thanks! Finally and this is knit picking. Having very modern light switches and most electricity directed by an i pad can be challenging especially for holiday makers of a certain age along with the 20 - 30 year olds in our family, Only being there for a week it would of been preferred in some ways to just walk in a room and and flick a light switch on in the old fashioned way. The above is just feedback as requested I would like to express again the house is great, the welcome pack there a good touch and we had a wonderful stay and would recommend it.
