About this property

Welcome to this charming riverside stone cottage in the heart of the Eryri National Park (Snowdonia), offering a cosy retreat for families, friends and their beloved pets. Set just 1 mile above the picturesque village of Bontddu, this traditional cottage provides an ideal base for exploring the stunning surroundings and comes complete with a crackling wood burner in the cosy lounge. Positioned halfway between the coastal town of Barmouth and the historic market town of Dolgellau, you'll find yourself perfectly situated to enjoy the best of both the coast and countryside.

Inside, discover wonderful original features such as the inglenook fireplace, exposed beams, wooden floorboards and feature stone walls. The kitchen is a delightful space with stunning views from the windows, perfect for preparing meals and enjoying quality time together at the dining table. After a day of adventures, unwind on the comfortable chairs and watch TV or enjoy the warmth of the wood burner. Two steps down from the kitchen, you'll find the utility room, cloakroom and stylish shower room. Upstairs, the library landing offers a peaceful retreat with views of the beautiful surroundings. Choose from two lovely bedrooms, each with exposed beams and uneven floors, ensuring a unique and characterful stay. Outside, the cottage is surrounded by a large garden bordered by the upper reaches of the Hirgwm River. Enjoy morning coffee on the sunny bench with views of Cadair Idris or explore the grassed areas on various levels, following the sun throughout the day. The riverside games/sunroom provides additional seating and entertainment options, making it the perfect place to enjoy al fresco dining and soak in the stunning views of the garden and river.

From the front door, enjoy scenic walks such as ascending Diffwys mountain via the Cambrian Way or enjoy a circular walk along the Hirgwm River. For a day at the seaside, take a 6-mile drive to the sandy beach at Barmouth. Alternatively, embark on an adventure to explore Cadair Idris, the highest mountain in southern Snowdonia, or cycle along the Mawddach Trail offering breathtaking views along the disused railway line. For water sports enthusiasts, Bala is 23 miles away, with sailing, kayaking and paddle boarding on Llyn Tegid.

A great place to stay in Snowdonia. We found the constant murmur of the stream relaxing and a great place to try out the ice bath technique of athletes to recover from strenuous activity. Tynlon boasts fantastic walks from its front door. A treck uphill leads you to open country. Looking back towards the cottage, Cader Idris forms a fine back drop to the River Mawddach. Once the mountain in front of you is scaled views of Snowdon off to the North await. We found old gold mines within walking distance and sorted through a spoil heap just in case some had been missed. The coast at Barmouth is a short drive away and has a year round dog friendly section of beach to enjoy. Barmouth Co-Op is also where bought our provisions for our stay. Sitting at the southern edge of Snowdonia Tynlon is perfectly placed to explore the area on foot or after a short drive. Reviewed by Martin
