What our customers say about their holidays
Ashli - Verified booking
We had a great little holiday in the cottage.
The photos of the property make it look a lot bigger than it actually is, especially the bathroom! But we made it work. The bed was unbelievably comfortable, and the blackout blind in the main bedroom worked wonders. Well equipped kitchen, with plenty of cleaning products to keep everything up together. We had a few electrical issues whilst staying -the washing machine didn't work, so we had to handwash A few items. However John did offer us the use of his machine if we were needing to wash any clothes again. The toaster also tripped the electrics, but John went out and purchased a new one, amazing! We loved the additional beach towels, parasol and windbreaker. We made the most of those when travelling to Durdle Door. The shower pressure was quite poor, and the temperature of the water wasn't very consistent. Had several shocking moments of freezing water, but the temperature returned to normal after a few seconds. So nothing too major! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and we'd absolutely love to return!

Mary and Bertie were very nice hosts for our week.
The cottage is just as the listing describes. It sits a little bit out of the village of Cartmel, so is a little bit of a walk into the village, but not undoable. The lanes to the cottage are narrow, but we never had any issues and there are plenty of passing places. The cottage itself is lovely. Everything is there you could need, and even some little extra touches you wouldn't normally get (I'll not say what, it would spoil it). The kitchen is a good size and very well equipped, the lounge is comfortable and functional. Upstairs is really big with plenty of space. I know it's a 2 person cottage, but you could easily fit a fold out bed in as well and still have loads of room. The bed is lovely and comfy. One tip, if you're not an early bird close the blinds at night or you'll be woken by the sunlight streaming in at 5 in the morning. Bathroom is a good size too. The shower isn't high pressure, but does the job and has lots of room. We stay somewhere different each time we visit The Lakes, but would definitely come back here.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Lane End.
The views of the surrounding hills, fields and sunrise were a joy. Maryâs instructions on how to get to the cottage were very accurate and I appreciated the contact and information provided. The cottage had all the amenities that I needed to make it a home from home and the cottage was very easy to heat and stayed warm as required. The bedroom is very spacious with a comfortable area to sit and admire the countryside views whilst reading and having a cuppa as I did. There is also a seating area directly outside the cottage and another across the driveway that would make a lovely area to sit out with a glass of wine. The cottage is ideally situated to visit Cartmel Village but is also in close proximity to Blackwell, Windermere, Holker Hall, Sizergh, Fell Foot, Ulverston, Leven Hall and Grange Over Sands. I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage.

Wi-Fi was very patchy, we could hardly use the internet, which made planning days out frustrating.
Outdoors pool too cold to swim in - is it covered at night? Wasps everywhere, so we had to keep the doors and windows closed and couldnât eat outside on our patio. Extractor fan and light above stove was broken / didnât work. The big plates donât fit in the dishwasher / the arm inside canât turn when they are in there so we washed them by hand. Not really enough crockery and cutlery provided, the dishwasher was only half full before we ran out. Nowhere to put anything down in the bathroom not even a wash bag. Quite a bit of dust on windowsills, skirting boards and cobwebs in the corners of the property. Re the above issues, we paid quite a bit for the week: £1600 so a bit disappointing and would probably stop us from rebooking.

We think we should preface remarks by explaining that we have a touring caravan and have been caravanners for almost 40 years.
So booking a cottage is a relatively new experience. So we are used to having everything familiar to us when on holiday. We felt the cottage was adequate and gave us a pleasant experience. However we did find the cooker controls quite frustrating and also found that there was insufficient hot water from taps. We had to boil a kettle for washing up and it would have been unpleasant if we had used the bath. The water leak from the wood burner was a little disconcerting but after talking to the owner understood he was doing all he could, and, of course, there had been exceptional rainfall. The Key Safe was also quite difficult to use. However we will be continuing to have this kind of holiday but in other parts of the UK.
