What our customers say about their holidays

This property is in a good location but unfortunately is poorly maintained and needs an update.
The kitchen sink tap wobbles and the cold water comes out of the hot water tap. The kitchen sink drain smelt terrible and on the second day of our stay we had to buy bleach to try and remove the smell (which returned later in our stay). On arrival I would expect washing up products to be made available especially since there is no dishwasher but we had to purchase products to wash up. The sofa in the lounge area is well past itâs sell by date and uncomfortable. We have stayed in self catering accommodation many times but this is the first time we have arrived somewhere and there wasnât even a toilet roll in the bathroom. Bearing in mind the nearest shop is in Seahouses 3 - 4 miles away I feel this is unreasonable. The shower was adequate and provided plenty of hot water but the sealant round the bath was full of mould. Outside the front door of the property one of the paving stones was loose which could be dangerous to someone less steady on their feet. I would return to Bamburgh but not to this apartment.

My mum and I enjoyed our stay at the cottage - it was a last minute booking and, to be honest, the bungalow does not have a lot of “kerb appeal” on the website. However, in the flesh it was much better with gorgeous views over farmland (no smells) to the front and the interior was well equipped with some good quality beds and furnishings. The welcome pack included wine, beer and a lovely cake. Reedham is a nice village with a couple of unusual bridges and a nice pub, the Ship, serving tasty food. We found we could get to where we wanted to go; be aware it takes about 10-12 minutes to get to/from the A 47. The area is handy for the Broads and Norwich. The train station is a short distance down the road (no noise) so you could have a car free trip if you are able to walk a bit.

The bathroom door locking knob came away in my hand.
leaving me locked in the bathroom for 1hr 45 until the rest of the family returned from grocery shopping and could let me out! There is a dangerously faulty electric socket in bedroom 2 which is an obvious fire risk The general cleanliness was appalling: the dish washing bowl had a layer of mud on the inside which looked as though it had been used to wash muddy boots, all the cutlery & crockery were filthy. We have a dog and therefore are used to pet friendly rentals but the entire sofa was covered in a layer of white dog/cat fur such that we actually had to put covers on to protect our clothing. This is the dirtiest and most poorly maintained property we have ever rented.

A well situated property for exploring Northumbria, spacious, very clean and well maintained.
It overlooks the pub beer garden which caused us some concern but despite our stay coinciding with a very warm dry bank Holiday, once inside the flat, there was no noise and the beer garden seemed to empty by 9p.m. The flat is well equipped with all the domestic appliances you need and comfortable furnishings. The only criticism I have is that, although there is plenty of information provided, it is not necessarily consistent. There seemed to be 3 different versions of what to do when leaving. If we were to visit Northumberland again, Rivershield Cottage would be top of our list to book.

Loved the feel of the cottage, and the cleanliness.
Note that there is no TV in the cottage, but there is good Wifi. Waking up to the view over the lake on one side, and the mountains on the other side was a great way to start the day. If you like birds, I suggest that people use a bird-sound app such as Merlin to identify them. There was a good variety around the cottage. Also to note: the cooker is induction, and for the first few days we found it difficult to bring anything to the boil - until we discovered an induction "plate" with a handle, which can be placed under the pan each time you use the cooker.
