What our customers say about their holidays
Keith - Verified booking
Thatched Cottage is very old and comfortable and has all one needs for a quiet relaxing holiday in a fantastic country setting, but needs some internal TLC, the wall as you enter the cottage is breaking away (plaster?
), in the excellent conservatory , and utility quite a few of the Double glazed windows have 'blown' spoiling the wonderful views . Having said this the cottage is well equipped and very comfortable if you want peace and quiet this is the place for you, many eating places and country houses/parks etc all close by, or relax in the lovely gardens with chairs and cushions supplied by the owners, listening to the birds and if up early enough to see the deer walking across the fields, The owner (Karen) who lives opposite the cottage is lovely and has fresh eggs and lovely venison produce if you are not a vegetarian, Both are highly recommended as in general is the Thatched Cottage, if the time and expense allows to fix the above items could be 100% perfect . The 5pm take over time is very late and should be brought in line with most other holiday lets, usually 3pm. (4pm at the very latest)

This was our first visit to the area and we definatley plan to return.
The cottage is very well located (just a 30 â 45 minute drive to some lovely walks and attractions, with Cerne Abbas just a 10 minute drive away), charming and well equipped. Phone signal/wifi is a bit âhit & missâ, but there was good wifi signal in the downstairs bedroom & conservatory (and for us, this was sufficient). The garden is huge & somewhat secure, although I would recommend you keep an eye your pooches as there are some gaps an âescape artistâ could possibly find. It was so tranquil and a very comfortable cottage to stay in. We came with 2 dogs â a senior & a puppy â and we found the book on the coffee table âDorset Dog Walks (or Ronnieâs Ramblesâ both useful and entertaining. Do take the time to meet Karen in the right hand cottage opposite â she is a mine of information & a source of local venison. We are looking forward to returning soon.

The annexe was quite spacious and nice and clean upon arrival. Some small treats and a bottle of milk was left which was nice. The property is in a rural area and was very quiet, very little passing traffic. Key fob to use during our stay meant we didn’t have to get out and input the security gates code number every time. The bedrooms and toilet were at opposite ends of the annexe so ideal for two couples. A shower chair was available if you are disabled or elderly which I thought was nice. The kitchen had everything you would need for your stay. The beds and sofas were comfortable as were the chairs at the dining table. There are lovely views looking out from the garden along with comfortable decking furniture. All in all we enjoyed our stay at the annexe and would consider this property again in the future.

Congratulations to the Owners who have ensured that the inside of this characterful property matches its stunning setting with its far reaching and ever changing countryside outlook. We loved the many extra touches not always found in holiday homes, the thoughtful welcome pack, toiletries in bathrooms and kitchen, and an over supply of crockery, cutlery and pans. It was spotless on arrival (Including windows, something often forgotten) , big comfortable beds and an ambient warmth from the underfloor heating. Owners were around and about but never intrusive. It was a lovely four days which went far too quickly. There's lots to see and do in the area which is unspoilt by not being in a hotspot. A wonderful getaway.

Beautiful Garden but Cottage not up to usual "Sykes" Standard As you enter the garden it is so lovely and if you have dogs and children it is so secure and peaceful, we all loved it.
The cottage needs some TLC. Plaster falling off wall as you enter, windows requiring painting. Carpet a little thin from hall into conservatory. The twin bedroom required the most TLC. Kitchen is well equipped and comfortable. Would have been a nice touch to have little bars of soap in the bathrooms as is usual with Sykes Cottages and also towels could have been nicer. Very peaceful area, great to have country walks and 45 minutes to the sea. Good local pubs. However, due to the poor interior in some rooms, including some worn carpet and no walk in shower, we would not stay here again.
