What our customers say about their holidays

Devonair is a beautiful townhouse situated in a lovely cul-de-sac with space for a car right outside which is a bonus.
The location is really nice as far enough away from Westward Ho to avoid crowds but close enough to walk in to the seafront in around 20 mins all on the flat. We were pleasantly surprised by the cream tea, tea and coffee supplied. Its upside down living with a spacious open lounge and kitchen upstairs. The balcony is really lovely to sit out on and we enjoyed lots of time sitting out there. However there isn't much of a view and you are directly opposite other townhouses. The downside being that if a loud party are enjoying time on their balcony at the same time it maybe difficult to relax. The place was really clean, comfortable and modern in its furnishings. Included is a few games and books to keep you entertained if weather isn't the best. There is a lovely private garden to the rear which we were also able to enjoy until one day when a large group arrived and blasted music whilst enjoying the hot tub next door! Its good though if you have a dog and includes a few little bits in a box for them. The kitchen was well equipped with good quality crockery, cutlery, pots and pans etc for cooking your own meals but personally just could have done with some basic supplies. Empty Salt and pepper mills were in the cupboard and there was no oil for cooking. Also the guest book was completed by previous guests stating they had broken the can opener which wasn't replaced so we had to buy one. The only heating was underfloor and this was fairly easy to control however when we wanted to change the temperature it did take quite a while to cool down or heat up. The towel rail in the bathroom never heated up so when we came out of the shower it was cold and we couldn't dry the towels so could have done with the heated towel rail or a little fan heater for instant heat when needed. Also for the price would have been nice if shower gels etc were supplied. We only used the double bedroom which had good storage. The bed was comfy with nice quality linen and it was great having a TV in there too. It has a nice size twin room too although we did notice a damp smell in that en suite. We did try to attempt the short cut to the beach through the estate via the golf course and burrows but it was very boggy so we gave up. I imagine it would be nice to walk across when its dry in the summer. Westward Ho is a lovely small seaside town with the most amazing large beach and a handful of restaurants and pubs. We also find it an excellent base for visiting lots of beaches within 30 to 40 minutes drive in Devon and Cornwall. Both Barnstaple and Bideford are close by for shopping and other dining out options. This place is such a great home to stay in and feels more upmarket than some of the other places so we would happily return and despite minor issues which really are just personal preferences we would recommended it to others. Book and you won't be disappointed with your stay. Just one final point take a look in the information booklet which day the window cleaner is due as they took us by surprise early one morning!

We had a super 7 night break, a really lovely homely and comfortable base to stay. Comfy bed, pillows and nice linen. An absolute bonus is a bathroom and a shower room with a great size and powerful shower. Comfy chairs to watch TV or the wood burner in winter. Home seems more spacious inside than it looks. Lovely bookshelf too with some interesting books. The cricket pitch is close by, also a food van very near. Parking is very easy and near the property. Cycles for hire also nearby. So much to do in the area, the Tarka trail is perfect we walked at least 10k everyday, also the coast path. Fremington Quay cafe is a great and welcoming place serving great food. We walked to Tapeley park well worth a visit a lovely walk along the Tarka trail. RHS Rosemoor and Dartington crystal are close by, a car drive away. There is a dele shop (Johns) in Instow with some great food and drink. Supermarkets are a few minutes drive away. Instow Arms is a lovely place to watch the sun go down. We would definitely recommend the property and the area.

Absolutely perfect and exactly what I was looking for.
I stayed at the Cider House for a week on my own, a bit of a solo retreat as I wanted somewhere peaceful I could just relax and swim. The cottage itself is gorgeous, so cosy and full of quirks, also incredibly spacious with everything you could need/want in the kitchen. The bed and bedding were some of the comfiest Iâve ever slept on :) Having access to the pool was dreamy - itâs shared with the other cottage residents but generally had it to myself when I wanted to swim (several times a day) and was wonderful to be able swim with farm animals all around! Location was great too - felt very rural and peaceful but literally 3-4 minutes from a big Tesco and only a few mins more to the town of Bideford and also a great location for exploring Devon, and has the gigantic beach at Westward Ho! under 10 mins drive away. Family fun farm and everybody was so friendly and helpful, quick to respond etc. All in all 10/10!

This is a really lovely property.
It has everything you would need and it is very stylish. It really felt like home. We had a very minor issue and the owner was very responsive and the matter was resolved. The location of the property is great for exploring the local area but also close to amenities so that you can easily dine out in the evening. The property allows dogs but you would not know it. I say that from a very positive perspective. There are no signs or aromas to give previous dogs away but there was a lovely welcome pack for our dog. I would highly recommend this property and would definitely stay there again. I would add that I think Sykes Cottages have handled us, as customers, exceedingly well during the pandemic and are now our first choice when looking for holiday accommodation. Thank you.

Immaculately presented property with comfortable beds and a safe enclosed garden ideal for our dog.
Provision of "mud daddy" which was useful and a hose made for easy cleaning of our dog. A well equipped kitchen with useful printed information on all electrical appliances etc. Constant hot water and parking as stated. 20 minute walk to beach across private access gate and then onto golf course/toll road to beach. Beautiful sandy beach accessed by pebble ridge which was a challenge but we managed it and we are in our seventies! Nearby Tesco Express and good take away fish and chippy. Easy access to all beautiful points in North Devon in particular Hartland Point, Heddon Mouth, Branscombe Woods and Tarka Trail not forgetting Saunton Sands through Broughton sand dunes. Definitely recommend this property.
