What our customers say about their holidays

  • Damson - Verified booking

Absolutely loved staying at the Towers - Castell.

It was wonderfully clean, spacious and welcoming. The village itself didn't get overly busy, which is good if holiday crowds aren't your thing, and being that close to the beach was heavenly. Being able to watch/hear the sea was a lovely way to have your morning tea. The rooms were lovely and spacious with sufficient storage, very clean and well maintained and the kitchen had most of the basics (no pizza tray though!). The USB plug in the bathroom (on the end of the light under a cover) with the shaver plug sockets was a nice touch. The WiFi coverage was pretty good and there was enough coffee/tea provided for a few days so you could just walk in and have a cuppa as soon as you get there - with the addition of a pint of milk in the fridge to welcome you. The food from the local chip shop (Castle Fish and Chips) was outstanding and the staff were lovely, but be prepared for long queues and it isnt cheap, but not overly expensive either and is good value for money. The ice cream shop (Cadwaladers) was also good, very helpful (I have food intolerances) but the portion sizes weren't great for the price. There is loads to do without having to travel miles (but you can and we did), and we are really happy we chose to have the Towers as a base. The only drawbacks were the low points on the ceiling (my husband cracked his head a couple of times - but the listing did warn of this!) and the 3 flights of stairs which were a bit much after doing an 11 mile walk. Price wise we found it very reasonable, we stayed for 2 weeks in the summer holidays and it didn't break the bank. Overall, I am very happy with the stay we had and happy to recommend The Towers - Castell as an excellent place to stay.

The property is really lovely and in a very good position.

However, it could do with a bit of TLC as some of the occasional tables in the lounge with the fire and the wooden chairs in the other lounge had very large cobwebs on them the house also smelt damp when we arrived and when we tried to open the windows found that a number of them were locked and no key available to unlock them and the window in the bathroom has no handle which means that it cannot be opened at all. The beds were very comfy and appeared to have new linen on them. The sofas and dining room were perfect for our party of 6 adults. We had an issue with the shower in the ensuite of the first double bedroom which tripped the mains. We contacted the lady who manages the property and she told us where the fuse box was so we were able to continue using it and she was arranging for an electrician to look at it. We have a couple of suggestions to make that would help future renters - a book in the house with information about the recycling bins snd also where to leave the towels and bedding on the day of departure. Also info for the use of the hob and oven (we were fortunate that one of our party has the same hob and knew how to turn the child lock off otherwise we would have been stuck). Another suggestion is somewhere to hang the towels in the ensuite bathrooms and in one of the ensuites there is no mirror so if somebody needs a wet shave they would have to use the mirror on the wardrobe door in the bedroom which isn't exactly ideal. I would just like to say that despite the issues above we had a very enjoyable few days and would certainly consider booking this property again in the future as its location and views were perfect.

Such a lovely house, it's nicely presented having a gentle mix of traditional old style build with modern fixtures and fittings.

. nicely done. I would like to suggest a couple of things to be addressed.. coat hooks on the wall as you walk in as some of our coats were wet after rain, it didn't feel right to hang wet things in the cupboard underneath the stairs. Though we did go to watch TV but occasionally we did such as the coronation.. noticed the TV is very dark in display and couldn't adjust (think it's on its way out) .. annoyingly my wife stubbed her toe on the bed, I have so found this to be quite common bed's like these, though it was extremely comfortable the hard surround can be quite hazardous if not paying attention.. we also found the lounge area to be quite dark as the ceiling lights are lovely but almost impractical... The external key safe is extremely stiff to undo this could represent problem for those with arthritis etc.. The shower was excellent and everything in the bathroom was good though many times the wc had to be flushed again and again as not enough water passed.. we ever used the back bedroom though its was superbly presented.. As a builder I am I noticed your kitchen cupboard doors were all warped slightly and the front door has problems locking and unlocking, some adjustments would be needed on this.. Please don't be alarmed as all these things are what I see everyday in my work, your property is really very nice and my wife loved it too which means everything to me... hope this info helps.

The views from the apartment were lovely, apartment was spacious and clean.

There is no elevator to get upstairs, so this is something to consider if you have difficulty getting up stairs. Contrary to the listing, there was NO handheld shower in the en suite bathroom. We booked for 4 people to stay and all of us staying had to use the one shower. That said, the one shower was very good, although a fairly small cubicle. The beds were beyond uncomfortable. We had a terrible first nights sleep, and had to improvise and put cushions and pillows on top of the mattress in order to be able to get any sleep for the remaining 5 nights. Kitchen is pretty well set up, with everything we needed to cook and eat in the cabinets. Toilet paper provided not enough for the time booked, since it was not on the list of items to bring and we were told on enquiry we would not be given any more, we had to go buy more. I would suggest this be added to the list of suggestions to bring with you, and also make information available on where to find things like rubbish/trash bags in the apartment. Based on the lack of sleep due to uncomfortable beds we would not stay at the Towers Castell again. Based on the misleading information about the hand held shower option I would question the amenities listings given for other Sykes properties.

Generally I was very pleased with Cwm Eilir.

I was quite surprised at a slew of negative reviews. I must have been staying at a different property, because I only found much to praise this exceptional house with glorious views over Cardigan Bay. I was very taken with the night time views of Criccieth Castle that was illuminated brilliantly. It was like being immersed in a Medieval fairy tale. Being central to Snowdonia, the house is a walkers' paradise with all the green forests and less taxing trails of Southern Snowdonia within easy reach, and some of the more challenging terrain of the North just up the road. There's plenty of charming towns within 30 minutes drive such as Dolgellau and Caernarfon. The shops are 5 minutes away at Porthmadog. And we would recommend No 46 cafe in Criccieth - it's a popular haunt with lots of freshly made food. Criccieth is a sublime place. The beach is just down the road from the house, which is generally clean. Opening windows will clear any damp smells and most of the linen is more than adequate. There is a footpath right next to the side of the house. To me it's a very good cottage in a 100 star location. If you want to make the most of Snowdonia, this is the place to be.
