What our customers say about their holidays

House is very nice with fabulous views over the river dart.
The overall cleanliness was very good particularly things like towels and bedding although there was a stain on my duvet which I didnât know until I stripped the bed before we left. Some kitchen utensils were unusable because they were caked with burnt on grease And we didnât use the cooker because the filter in the hood was filthy. It was rather chilly in the evenings and there was central heating. I couldnât find any advice or instructions on how to operate it. Fortunately, I have Hive at home so I managed to get the heating system up and running However, there is one radiator valve in the front bedroom that I could not Work out how to operate. Parking is an issue although we were able to park outside for unloading and loading on the final day it was an inconvenience having to park in the main town car park. The property details mention it being a short walk of 10 minutes or so down into the town and whilst this might be true coming back up from the town is a different matter. basically you have to choose between a very long flight of steps or a short Hill that must be about 45° at least !!. I ended up needing to use my car to drive my wife and elderly dog back up to the house and then return to the car park and then walk back up myself. On one occasion, I did have to stop and gather my breath. I would mention that we are both in our 70s and although reasonably mobile this was really too much. I donât think the house is at all suitable. 70s and although reasonably mobile this was really too much. I donât think the house is at suitable for anyone with mobility issues unless driven up there in a vehicle. For this reason I donât think we would ever return there and Iâm glad that we were only there for a few days. Thank goodness the weather was good and we were out and about every day.

The house was lovely, very well equipped with great showers.
The lounge was not the most comfortable with the TV and chair positioning (you'd have to twist your neck), but we hardly spent any time in there apart from late in the evening so it didn't bother us. The showers were a highlight as the water pressure was fantastic. There is a crack in the main bathroom door however which needs to be sealed as you can catch a glimpse of whomever is in the loo! It would have also been nice to have more than 1 toilet roll provided per couple for 7 nights to give more of a sense of being well accommodated as that felt a little bit of an oversight, especially given the price we'd paid - it would've been nice to have loo roll supplied for the week! Another tricky issue was the carpark. We had no issue finding a park when we arrived on Friday but we drove to Salcombe on Monday and when we returned the carpark was full. We had to circle it for a while and wait for someone to leave which was a bit stressful as there was nowhere else identified for us to park. Perhaps a backup option of another carpark, such as the park and ride, that could be used with the permit would help as we were put off driving anywhere else out of fear we'd not be able to park when we returned. Overall however it was a gorgeous property with the most picturesque view and we'd definitely recommend it. I think it's highly likely we would return for another holiday given we had such a wonderful stay.

We really enjoyed our week at Crew House.
It was very clean and nicely decorated. The kitchen is well stocked and probably the best weâve had in years of self catering holidays. The beds were comfy and the shower was nice and hot. The walk up from the car park is steep at the end, and the stairs to get to the front door are also steep, but hand rails help. We didnât have the weather on our side so didnât get to use the small terrace unfortunately, but the living room was very comfy. My husband particularly likes the little chair so now we are on a hunt to find one for our house! There is a good selection of games, books and DVDs. The tv is not a smart tv, so no access to anything like Netflix, which would have been nice given the terrible weather, but we made do. The only point Iâd raise is that the wardrobes in the front bedroom smell like cigarette smoke. I donât know if this is coming from next door, but perhaps an odour neutraliser inside would help? We would highly recommend a stay here, it was perfect for our family (2 adults, a child l, a toddler and a small dog) and we wouldnât hesitate to stay here again.

We had a very nice few days at Crew House.
Location is particularly great. HOWEVER, on the last night as I was getting into bed, I noticed a small black bug crawling in the duvet. I looked around and noticed there was a quite a few more on the base of the divan beds in the twin room, as well as in the carpet, and on the curtains. It really unnerved me as I cannot cope with creepy crawlies! It really ruined my holiday to be honest. I didnât think it fair to write a review initially, so I e-mailed Sykes direct, however they offered absolutely no apology and said they would pass it on to local team. I recently received another e-mail from them, clearly sent in error, which was meant for someone else who also stayed at Crew House. Coincidentally, they had also complained about bugs in the house, which Sykes are claiming are âgrains of dirtâ - dirt does not crawl? As there was no apology, no action taken, and Iâm obviously not the only one who has experienced this, I felt I had no other option than to write this review and make others aware.

Stayed at Lake Victoria Cottage at the beginning of December, and the town was lovely and quiet ~ the calm before the Christmas period!
The cottage is sited in the centre of Dartmouth with a 2 minute flat walk to the shops etc. It is a cosy cottage ie small, and suitable for two adults. Please note there are no views! The kitchen was well equipped, though an oven glove would have been useful! The stairs are steep and semi-spiral and so anyone with mobility issues would possibly find them an issue. The yale lock catch did not always work (this has been mentioned before by others). The sofa, again as others have reported, is so uncomfortable! Is it a sofa bed? It really does need to be changed. Having stayed in Dartmouth many times over the years, a folder with equipment instructions ie how to use washing machine, oven etc has been found to be really useful. If it was available, we couldn't find it. It was lovely to see two welcome packs ~ one of teas & coffee; and one with cleaning materials. The cottage came with a parking permit for the town car park and as it was December, finding a parking space wasn't an issue.
