What our customers say about their holidays
Mr Finnigan - Verified booking
We wife, myself, and our 8 year old cockapoo recently returned from a lovely week at Glenislea. The location is fantastic: 50m to a park, where people were having picnics and barbecues (and perfect for that early morning or late evening walk with the dog). The park includes a securely fenced play area - ideal if you have children. 100m to the seafront promenade, just by the lifeboat station, and also 100m to the local independent shops, pubs, and cafes. Sidmouth has the added bonus that it is still bustling, even out of season. The house is is secluded, and set back, but still has views of the park, play area, and sea views. It is spacious, with a large lounge and diner on the ground floor, together with a kitchen and downstairs WC. The first floor has a large double bedroom at the front, a separate twin room, shower room, and separate WC. Whilst the 2nd floor has another double bedroom. There is a small private, and tidy courtyard to the rear. The beds are very comfortable! As each day went by, we became more and more relaxed, and it was great to dump the cars at the end of each day, in the local car park (20m away), and dine out in one of the many nearby pubs and restaurants. Most of the pubs, cafes, and shops in Sidmouth are dog friendly too, which was a bonus for us. I do recommend purchasing an e-permit for parking in the local car parks (£25 for 7 days), which is also valid in all East Devon council car parks, so handy if venturing further afield. We would happily recommend Glenislea to friends and family, if they were considering a break in this lovely part of East Devon.

The Holt disappointingly feel short of our expectations.
There were a couple of significant issues which shouldn't have happened. However overall it is a lovely well equipped cottage in a good location which serves as a good base to explore East Devon. Regarding the listing, it doesn't make it clear that you're actually on a holiday cottage site with 7 other cottages. One of these is directly overlooking the garden/hot tub area. The cottage is overlooking a car park. The directions to the property are also incorrect. Everything else in the add is as described. It's furnished well and the rooms and comfy and cosy. Regarding the issues. When we arrived there were shards of glass inside and outside the property. I actually cut my hand on these when sitting in the chair. We had a very young baby with us which meant we had to be very careful on where we put here. It was all over the garden too which meant the dog couldn't go out. It was also all by the hot tub. Our first night was spent trying to clear all this up. The second day someone came to try and clear it up. R.e. cleanliness, there was a unempited bin full of used sanitary products and the hot tub had a bloody plaster in there and grime around the sides. We never really got an apology for the issues we raised. It looks like the site is for sale which goes some way to explaining management's lack of disregard. Overal a nice stay in a nice cottage, but we paid a lot of money and shouldn't have encountered these issues. Maybe try once under new management.

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.
We have had an amazing week. The Holt is very well equipped with a lovely comfortable sofa, beds and everything we needed. We liked the added more personal touches such as quirky whale light, rope side light, paintings etc. Flowers, biscuits, milk, teabags, coffee pods etc were also well appreciated touches. The hot tub was wonderful and lovely to have it regularly cleaned and perfectly located in a gorgeous sunshine trap. The Wi-Fi and smart tv were both excellently received by our teenagers. Our ideas on very small improvements that might help future guests - ⢠A keysafe to leave key when out if more than 1 adult couple here. ⢠Recycling is great but took us a few days to find it as gate was closed over so maybe more signposting or a plot map of entire area in the instruction booklet. ⢠Entry gate was just secured with string and not that strong as latch is broken especially with a dog ⢠There is space for 6 guests but the saucepans and oven trays are not that big for cooking for 6 so we did purchase more while here which we have taken back with us but may be worth getting ⢠The garden has an apple tree which is full of rotten apples and all over the patio as a result there are many wasps and many stings had. If the over hanging branches were cut back this would help a lot All in all we have had a wonderful stay and hope that we may return another time. Many Thanks

Just stayed here last week (October 2014) and had another great stay. We stayed here October 2013 too and since then the kitchen has been refitted with dishwasher and downstairs toilet repainted along with kitchen. Outside back patio area greatly improved too. This is a three double bedroom house over three floors. Downstairs lounge, dining area, kitchen, toilet then on first floor double bedroom, twin bedroom, another toilet and bathroom. Finally second floor another double bedroom. All good sizes and with sinks. It's a nice house, nothing posh but it is clean and ok. Price was excellent for the week and we hired bedding too. I would not recommend this house for people who aren't agile as the stairs are steep and narrow. But both double bedrooms have sea view and we love it. It is close to the seafront and within minutes of The Byes nature walk. Town centre very close and almost next to leisure centre. Location is perfect with kiddies park outside the front. No car parking with this but for £25 you can buy a seven day parking pass for the long stay car park up near Connaught Gardens. This also allows use of the short stay car parks (council ones) but only for a couple of hours. All in all basic but homely and we will stay again no problem.

Trill is an absolutely beautiful house set in beautiful rolling countryside.
Beer and Lyme Regis are a few minutes away in a car and the local pub is friendly. Basics were to be found at the local garage, either a five minute drive or a highly recommended and beautiful walk away. There are a few bit that could be better but overall it was a beautiful base for a lovely holiday. Some of the furniture was broken (although usable) and the lack of usable Wi-Fi made itself felt with two teenagers in the house. The road in is pretty awful too, but take it slowly and watch out for the potholes and youâll be fine. Donât let this put you off though, being a bit off the beaten track puts you right in heart of the countryside. The local wildlife was a constant joy, with red deer, birds of prey and a menagerie of other species all making an appearance in the beautiful grounds. For eating out River cottage is just around the corner (if you havenât been, go, itâs incredible) and the local pub serves good honest food too. Faultless? No but the positives of Trill far outweigh any of itâs faults. Highly recommend!
