What our customers say about their holidays
Beverley - Verified booking
We stay in rental properties 2 or 3 times a year and have just returned from a two week stay at Rede River Cottage.
The cottage is in a lovely setting a mile from a main road so really quiet. However was a little disappointed that the owner, who was in the driveway when we arrived, didnât walk up to greet us, introduce themselves and go through a few things with us, which is really unusual. When the shopping turned up 1/2 hour later we struggled finding the freezer which was in the cupboard in the entrance hall and later finding the glasses. The kitchen is a lovely size but let down by only having a 6 place crockery and mug set. There are lots of cupboards not being used and a 12 piece crockery and mug set would be more economical by being able to fully load the dishwasher. As other comments have mentioned, the property was very clean and a lovely welcome pack left for us. Every bedroom had a ensuite with two having lovely big baths, and big walk in showers which was nice, and a shower to the other one. Also lots of lovely big fluffy towels The owners were really reactive when we had a little bird come down the log burner chimney which was lovely. For me, to give it a 5 star, a few things need addressing. The sleigh bed is beautiful but really creaky so we ended up moving out into another bed. The pillows could do with an upgrade as they are very thin and uncomfortable, Finally, with farm traffic, owners, visitors, we found the property, especially two of the bedrooms very overlooked from the driveway, a few more shrubs would cure this including the garden being very overlooked from the owners property/field and the road, again would be rectified by a few more shrubs. With these few adjustments this would be a beautiful holiday escape

There's now a mobile signal for both voice and data at the cottage!
This was on the 3 network. No signal yet on EE. I got 7mps down on data compared with 4mps on wi-fi, the latter being rock steady. Voice calls on mobile were nice and clear, although we mainly used wi-fi calling. We've stayed at dozens of cottages over the years and this was undoubtedly the best. It's extremely spacious to say the least. We won't stay anywhere that doesn't have a bath and a 3 seater settee. This has both. We consider these essential when we've been on our feet all day. The L-shaped sofa is particularly comfortable. The king size bed was too firm for our tastes, but most guests would probably love it. We slept in the twin room and found these beds nice and comfortable. The kitchen is extremely well equipped to say the least, and we appreciated the dishwasher. The only slight downside is the lighting, especially in the kitchen. The cottage is isolated, but the 2 mile single track road is tarmacked. It's about 15 minutes from the small town of Bellingham in the direction of Kielder Water. As a result stargazing here is exceptional with the bonus of a south facing rear garden. On the 2 clear nights we had I recorded a sky brightness of 21.4mag/arcsecondsquared even with the Milky Way overhead. Highly recommended.

If you have got as far as reading this then you are interested in renting Shepherds Burn, don't look for other properties in the area this one is just great.
Hiking, cycling, a base to start exploring from or just chilling out watching the wildlife then look no further book it. You'll find the cottage a couple of miles down a tarmac track which means no passing traffic, except the very infrequent farm or forestry vehicles (and I mean very infrequent). The cottage itself is beautifully maintained with everything you need for your stay and a large dog proof garden (how many times have I heard that phrase only to be disappointed - but not here) There are many tracks/bridleways through the forest that you can explore from the doorstep or a short drive takes you to Kielder reservoir and longer to every village and small town to the coast. The nearest village is Bellingham which is well stocked for your shopping needs, do look in the Country Store, possibly the most well stocked shop in Northumberland. From where I live we have the dubious joys of commuting up the appalling road work/accident filled A1 even that won't stop me going returning, to quote Mr A Schwarzenegger "I'll be back" A great cottage, in a great location rented from lovely people.

Wonderful cottage in a remote but beautiful location with stunning views.
The property is in immaculate condition with everything you could want for a week or two week stay. The hosts made the five of us (all adults) very welcome with superb cooked breakfast products including eggs from their own chickens or cereals and fruit if you preferred. There are several pubs within a 15 minute drive offering varied menus but check the reviews as some are better than others. There are plenty of National trust or English Heritage properties to visit within 30 Mins to an hours drive and of course Castles, wonderful beaches, stunning walks and Water Falls (high force) a little further away to entertain any family or group. Rede River cottage is highly recommended by everyone in our group

Such a beautiful cottage in the heart of Northumberland National Park.
It is really a home from home with a fully equipped kitchen. The pillows were a little soft for my personal taste, but you could tell that they were of high quality. The garden was large enough for a kickabout, but if you want more room there is a field literally outside of the garden gate. There is a nice selection of board games and jigsaws on site. Simon and Cosmo are unobtrusively on hand for anything that you need, including advice on where to go or how long travel takes to different places. Simon also left us a lovely welcome gift of wine and biscuits. There is no phone signal on the road to the cottage, or at the cottage, but WiFi is provided for this.
