What our customers say about their holidays
India - Verified booking
There was no communication beforehand about where the parking permit would be.
It would help to just mention that it's in the accommodation on arrival. It was a right faff parking, collecting the keys, driving to accommodation, trying to park, getting the door open â and making sure it was the right one â and getting into the property through the lobby and up the metal stairs. Your W3W on the email was wrong. Had we known about the faff getting in, going through the lobby, through the bin area and up steps to the place, we wouldn't have booked. Why not have a keysafe nearby? The stairs were deadly and my mother and child had to go down on their bottoms! It does mention quirky stairs on listing but it doesn't give the impression of just how bad they are! Would definitely not have booked if had known. Only suitable for fit adults who don't drink alcohol. There's not enough seating for four people in the living space either, the WiFi code in the book was wrong and the TV requires an engineering degree to work. We stripped the beds but completely forgot to take the rubbish out (sorry), we did take the recycling home with us though. Hopefully that was ok but when you're paying £200 a night you don't expect to be a housekeeper too. We did leave it tidy as that is normal but I object to working on holiday â stripping the beds and emptying all the bins. There are a lot of rules here and I suspect it's the impact of AirBnB (who I don't use). We were staying two nights, checking in on Sunday evening, and the accommodation info said I had to take the bins out for collection on the Monday morning. So I got up at 6am to do this as I presume you can't leave them overnight but I could not find them at all as all the bins outside were for the restaurant. There was a locked shed but otherwise I presumed that because of the dates of our stay, the cleaners would have dealt with the waste on changeover so I gave up and went back to bed. I would have phoned the office but they're only open in office hours obviously so no point. Had no contact from LBH during our stay. Oh and finally, the light in the entrance had gone and it was roasting hot. We turned the radiators off but there must be an override as it made absolutely no difference so we just had to open the windows and let all the heat out. Bonkers! Overall, great location, it was clean, but really disappointing stay and wouldn't come again.

TLDR: Really excellent place for a quiet holiday - but watch out for the seagulls!
When we first arrived, "The Poop Deck" certainly lived up to its name, as we were dive-bombed by a very angry seagull that squirted us both with poop. Within 90 seconds we both had a significant amount of seagull poop on our jackets, t-shirts, trousers and shoes; It transpired that the Gull had 3 baby chicks nesting on the roof of the front door porch, and our attempt to carry our bags into the property was taken as an attack on the nest. Fortunately the property has both a washing machine and a tumble dryer; it also has a back door, so we used this for the whole holiday, though the position of the nest stopped us from using the balcony of the master bedroom. That said, the Poop Deck is an outstanding place to rent for a holiday, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property was clean and well decorated, has a lovely split-level back garden, part of which is quite secluded but still catches the sun from midday onwards, and the sea view is quite simply the best we have had; even though the property is some distance back from the beach, there is better than 120 degrees of sea view from the main picture window in the large lounge (and also from the balcony of the master bedroom, seagull-permitting). The furnishings appear to be new, and the kitchen is well stocked with quality utensils, crockery and cutlery. Everything smells fresh and clean; there is even a quiet air-con unit that keeps things pleasant too. The WiFi is excellent (though the router boxes in the master bedroom could do with being shrouded a bit at night as there are many blue LEDs). The local shops are five minutes walk away (and seven minutes back, due to the gradient) as is the pub/hotel, 2 restaurants and a takeaway - also there is a second hotel along the beachfront that also serves food to non-residents and has a small bar. In the harbour one may hire kayaks, paddleboards and even windsurfing gear from the RYA training centre. Would we visit again? Absolutely, yes! Thank you for a very relaxing stay.

Beautiful location, well equipped apartment with stunning views across St Ives.
Felt the walk down to the beaches were easy reachable and myself doing early walks around really help me get my bearings. St Ives is hilly with lots of steps but worth the visit just take your time. So many shops (my wife and twin boys have cealiac gluten allergies) which caters so well for everyone. Best fish and chips, gluten and normal is Becks in Carbis bay, worth the 5 minute drive and 20 minute wait in queâ¦trust me. The apartment has fantastic view across St Ives and as mentioned is well equipped with fluffy towels and a set of beach towels. Kitchen is also well equipped however we took our coffee maker and this would be a nice touch to add to the facilities. Apartment is well maintained and very clean and classy. Downside. I had 2 13 yrs boys, WiFi was very ropey when we were all on, again worth owners upgrading for a small cost. As a glass frontage can get very hot and balmy at night, take fans, was a challenge sleeping even with fans provided. Likely an isolated incident but the en-suite was stinking, we hardly used it, reported it so hopefully it will get fixed. Also there is a machine that recognises condensation in both bathrooms. One was broke ruined our night (all night) with irruption of clicking for about 30 seconds at a time at Radom times, kept us awake all night one night which was too much. Again killed about a day and a half but once reported staff were superb. So any issues please report. Found it easy to find, and parking was okay. Tesco is Caribs bay about 1mile away 5 minutes in car or larger Asda in Hayle 10 minutes. Loved the stay. Shame about some issues but wouldnât put us of coming back to St Ives and this penthouse.

I stayed at the Poop Deck with my husband and two dogs from 27th August until 1st September 2022.
A long awaited holiday after the restrictions of COVID. When we arrived at the Poop Deck the property was filthy. Prior to booking, I had read earlier reviews some of which referred to the cleanliness of the property. I called the owner to inform her of the state of the property and sent numerous photographs. The owner agreed that there was âa lot of dirt.â The owner arranged for the property to be cleaned again the next day and also offered me compensation. The following day 4 cleaners spent for 2 hours to bring the property up to scratch. Even after 8 hours extra cleaning there were areas that had not been addressed. I told the owner that I would just finish the cleaning myself and not use the microwave (as it was still dirty) to avoid any more disruption to our holiday. I did receive compensation (not at the level I requested to compensate for the disruption caused) but was told that this was on the basis that I did not leave a review. Sykes Cottages would not comment when I raised this with then. Anyway, that said, the Poop Deck is in a great location and there is lots to do locally â we visited Roskillyâs Ice Cream Farm, the Seal Sanctuary and the Lizard. The garden is a little sun trap and was great for our dogs. The local shops, pubs and beaches are lovely. The property is well equipped and the beds very comfortable. Would I stay here again. Probably not.

The property is modern as it forms part of the conversion from the old Narracott Grand Hotel into appartments. It is well appointed with two good bathrooms and two large bedrooms. It is in an excellent position, being close to restaurants, shops, beach etc. Guests need to be on their guard as there is astep down from the lounge area to the kitchen area which caught my wife out several times over the first two days causing her to fall. We resolved it by placing a chair on the step to act as an obstacle and a reminder. Also beware that the wooden bedframes are wider than the mattress and are painful on the shins if you are not very careful. We were a bit dissapointed that the outlook from the lounge was not a lovelly sea view, but a rather unattractive red brick building. The sea view is available, but only really from the very narrow balcony. We had a few operational issues when we first arrived relating to the operation of the central heating and the TV. It was very irritating that the owner was only prepared to communicate by text message. One simple phone call could have resolved our issues but I eventually gave up with the text messages and after two days found a way around the issues myself.
