What our customers say about their holidays

The cottage is well situated for a peaceful break near to the south west coastal path.
The instructions to get to the house are clear and provide several warnings about the neighbours dog that barks every time you walk along the shared access path. We had our two dogs with us which the neighbouring dog took a disliking too and so sitting in the garden was a little stressful at times! With regard to providing constructive feedback to the owners who appear to have bought the cottage in January this year. Firstly, the cottage is well equipped but to the point of being very cluttered. I find that when there are lots of utensils/kitchen items that other cottage users don't always wash things up properly and we found this out when using an oven dish that was covered in mould! Secondly, the master bed is small. My wife and I are about 64kg each and not big people, but we didn't sleep too well as the bed is very small. With modern mattresses like the emma/simba mattress, it would be entirely possible to get a king in the main bedroom and this would improve the stay a lot. Finally, on the subject of dogs - there is a charge for dogs but it is not clear what this is for! I find paying for dogs frustrating in any case as our dogs stay in their own beds and don't sit on furniture or come upstairs. They also don't shed hair as they are hypoallergenic breeds. Where we have stayed previously, and a charge is levvied for dogs, there is usually a small 'gift' like a bag of treats or a chew or perhaps a dedicated water bowel for the dogs but there was nothing like that. Small things like this make a big difference, especially when paying over £170 a night at the start of low season (mid/late September 2021). As nice as the area and stay is, we won't be returning to rock cottages as we feel there is better value to be had elsewhere currently.

The listing does not make it clear that the apartment is at the back of the block and does not have a view of Fistral Beach, which is the main reason we chose this apartment.
Whilst there is a partial view of the sea the main view is of a car park. The apartment is in need of an update - the tv is not a smart tv so unable to view any of our streaming services; there is no smart speaker or radio; sofa incredibly uncomfortable and not large enough for 4 adults to sit comfortably; the gas fire is incredibly difficult to light; there is only outside seating for 2 people; one of the windows in bedroom does not shut; the fridge has mould under the milk shelf which cannot be cleaned as the shelf is super glued in place; there is no coffee maker or large cafetiere; no hairdryer; no toiletries provided in the bathroom; there is no wardrobe in the 2nd bedroom and the wardrobe in the other does not have a hanging space for dresses so they get bunched up on the shelf; there is only 1 bedside lamp in each bedroom. Whilst some of these are being picky, put together they made our stay less enjoyable and comfortable than it should have been for the price we paid. On the plus side we could not fault the response from Sykes when we contacted them to say that the bed had not been zipped together (as requested), that there were several light bulbs blown in the lounge and kitchen and that the shower head was almost falling off the wall into the bath. They sent housekeeping and maintenance the same day and resolved these issues. The apartment is in a great location and very easy to walk to the beach and town.

A great property with outstanding views, a good selection of facilities and everything needed for your stay.
We were treated with a a great view of the fireworks from the jubilee celebrations. Bed was comfy. A great location too, only 5-10 mins walk to center of St Ives. Meant we could enjoy evening dinners out without having to take the car. Had an enjoyable stay and would recommend. Our only criticisms would be cleanliness could be a tad better (although good) lots of dust/ dirt under the sofas (discovered whilst doing yoga) and a couple of food stains on the pillows sofas. Would suggest washing those. The room also gets extremely hot and this wasnât the hottest of summer weeks, so either blinds or air con is perhaps needed in the living space. The tv remote didnât seem to work for us, we could get the tv on using other remotes/ to watch SKY but not to change over to use Netflix etc. even with with a battery change. The lack of a lift was tough, especially after a day of st ives hills, although appreciate that is not something easily changed and not a deal breaker. Lastly the building work, we were warned or this, although had been advised it wasnât right next door and we were the apartment closest to it. Luckily we we were out most days so it wasnât too impactful. Mainly the mornings were a tad noisy from the very loud builders convos in the car park downstairs, perhaps this could be addressed.

The cottage was lovely and in a great position.
It had all tools you could want Except for usable power points in the kitchen. The shower had fantastic pressure, but the hot water ran out after two showers, either due to the pressure using the hot water quickly or the heating of the water not being on long enough.so not suitable for 4 people Sadly, the garden had two dog poos in it, and there were lots of cobwebs and dead insects in the house The utility room floor paint was not sealed properly and was flaking, result was walking blue paint through the house constantly. Although felt secure in the house, the garden was another matter. The gates to the cottage had been opened overnight, and when filling the watering can, to water the pots, someone had put washing up liquid or something similar into the can, these events happened twice during our stay Could not find a food recycling bin However, we had a great holiday in a great setting Must mention the neighbours, Tom & Chris, fantastic in our hour of need when car broke down.

We had a wonderful week at Penthouse View.
The apartment is light, spacious and beautifully decorated, with an amazing view. The kitchen is unbelievably well equipped! We liked the position up the hill, slightly out of the town, yet within easy walking distance of the beaches and shops. We would definitely stay here again. My only comments (not really negatives) are that the details in the app donât list all of the things provided (such as hairdryers, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, beach towelsâ¦I could go on!). You should list these provisions as theyâre great (and would have saved me bringing the items)! Also, the weather was beautiful during our stay, so the lack of blinds in the apartment meant that it got very hot. There clearly had been blinds at one time so perhaps these could be re-hung? As I say, not really negatives (Iâm certainly not complaining about the weather!), just suggestions for making Penthouse View even better.
