What our customers say about their holidays

What a fabulous house!
! Super homely with all the facilities we needed. Bedrooms are all spacious and bright, bathrooms are well appointed with great showers in most of them. (A slightly less powerful shower in the red room en-suite but still ok). Lovely clean white towels and bedding throughout and comfy beds. The younger people in our party loved the four posters! Downstairs we only used one of the sitting rooms but it was large with plenty of seating for all of us. The sofas have seen better days but were still comfortable. The pianos got used by several of us! When we were at the house we spent the majority of our time outside or in the amazing kitchen. The kitchen was definitely our favourite room, warm, cosy and comfortable. The games room was a big hit in the evenings and when it rained whilst the wonderful wild swimming pond was used by most of us with some of our party using this almost daily. Some lovely sunny days allowed us to make full use of the huge and beautiful garden and tennis courts. We had a couple of minor issues with a panel in the red bedroom wardrobe falling off on arrival, the tv speaker playing up in the morning room and the dishwasher breaking down but overall we had a brilliant family holiday and absolutely loved the house to the point that weâve already booked again for next year. We would recommend Wootton House for its character, space and comfort and for its location, being quite central for lots of surrounding attractions.

Staying at Wootton House was a dream come true - used to visiting National Trust properties we were intrigued to be staying in a house with such a rich history.
We were not disappointed and realty felt we had taken a step back in time ! Some visitors might be put off by the 'frayed edges' but we all agreed they added to the charm and authenticity of the property. What a privilege to stay somewhere with original William Morris wallpaper !! Initially worried about how the youngest children would cope with such a different property, we had unfounded fears. The owners introduction manual made it obvious that this is first and foremost a family home where children are welcome - and judging by the number of toys and games, children are certainly expected :) We particularly liked the kitchen (cooking on an Aga for the first time was a wonderful experience) and the cosy lounge where we had a fire each night whilst taking part in quizzes and parlour games. All family members have been googling to find more info about the Hood family and the history of the house - both the housekeeper and cleaner very kindly shared information freely and it was interesting to hear why certain portraits were hung outside of the main house !!! At every turn there was evidence of those who had lived here in the past - and we really felt we were living 'an experience' rather than taking a holiday. Being able to bring all generations together (including the dogs) was wonderful as we were celebrating a special 50th birthday. Thanks so much for a wonderful time - we'

We loved the character of Wootten House and enjoyed our stay there.
The house is huge and generally well appointed with a well equipped kitchen. The grounds are lovely and we would have made more use of them had it been drier. We appreciated the way the upstairs bathrooms have been updated and these were clean and well appointed. However the downstairs bath was not usable as it did not drain properly. We made good use of the dining room which was a nice place to eat. The larger sitting room was very comfortable. The musicians in the party made use of the pianos but would recommend that they are tuned. We enjoyed the collection of interesting books, pictures etc. The location of the property is beautiful. The property is slightly lacking in terms of cleanliness-for example there were dog hairs on some of the downstairs carpets and it was a little dusty and cobwebby in places. We would recommend more cleaning materials are provided-broom, dustpan and brush, dusters, mop and bucket, cordless vacuum cleaner, cleaning products etc. We would have been happy to do more cleaning before departure if we had had the means. Some of our party found some of the beds uncomfortable as has been commented before.Overall there were lots of good things about this lovely house and we think the few downsides could be easily addressed to make for a more comfortable stay for visitors.

Tucked away in the heart of Thurlestone, Amber Tide is the kind of place that instantly slows your pace and soothes the soul. From the moment we arrived, we knew this was going to be a stay to remember—where golden light dances across the terrace at dusk, sea air fills every breath, and the simple pleasures of good food, great company, and coastal adventures take centre stage. Mornings were spent meandering along the coastal path, where the endless blue of the horizon melted into the waves, and afternoons led us to hidden coves and sandy beaches, perfect for lazy strolls and paddles. As the sun began to dip, we gathered on the beautiful outdoor terrace, sharing stories over a feast of fresh seafood under the golden glow of a wonderful sunset, as laughter carried into the warm evening air. But perhaps our favourite moments were the movie nights, when we curled up in the snug lounge, a glass of wine in hand. Amber Tide is more than just a coastal retreat; it’s a sanctuary—where days are filled with adventure, nights with connection, and time slows just enough to make you savour every second. We can’t wait to return.

We couldn’t have asked for a better setting than Moorings in Kingsbridge for our team retreat. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this was something special – sleek, stylish, and effortlessly welcoming. The balcony became our go-to spot – morning coffees watching the river gently shift with the tide, and golden-hour chats with glasses in hand, wrapped in soft throws as the sun slipped behind the hills. Having access to the gym was a real treat – the perfect way to clear our heads between sessions, especially after long lazy lunches at The Crabshell nearby. But the true highlight? The private chef. We were utterly spoiled with the most incredible supper – locally sourced, beautifully presented, and delicious beyond words. It felt like dining in our own private restaurant, but better. Every detail was considered, every moment a luxury. It wasn’t just a stay – it was an experience. We left feeling connected, inspired, and already planning our return.
