High ceilings, comfy beds, lots of hot water and good central heating - house needs more TLC and better deep cleaning which could be easily rectified and would make this a super place to rent. Things to fix: Fridge needs a new light bulb. Kitchen bin lid doesn't close down - Cleaning issues: Previous tenants rubbish and bag of dog poo left in porch to greet us when we arrived - LOVELY... NOT! Black Mold in new top shower on grout and tiles. Could so easily be removed and mad to let grow in new showers. Fan in top bathroom FULL of dust and fluff so completely blocked - adding to mold. Top room window frames totally black and rotten due to damp. Couldn't open as worried they were stuck and would then fall out if we bashed them open. More unbelievable Black mold on window frames in kitchen and sitting room. I had to clean all the windows inside as we got wheezy. No recycling bin inside kitchen? Why not? Carpets badly stained ( by coffee? /dogs?) in sitting room and also in top bedroom so looks grotty. Wall Lights in sitting room FULL of dead flies which you only see when lights are on - so I can see why a cleaner may miss this. Sofas full of sweet wrappers, coins, dust, fluff under cushions - disgusting - we lost a phone which is why I had to remove cushions YUCK Games and book shelves filthy - I cleaned and sorted them out - as so wet couldn't leave house for the first 48 hours. Things missing in Kitchen: No oven gloves Tea towels supplied were actually an old napkin and a tiny cotton towel. No drying rack for wet clothes - which is a huge oversight as we had 5 days of torrential rain so had to use radiators and kitchen chairs to hang things over to dry which I wouldn't at home. No logs supllied in outside bin. Which in winter would be thoughtful. No clothes washing powder/tablets supplied - even a couple would be a kind gesture - I left the box we bought for future guests No roll of Kitchen towel supplied No condiments at all - guests must surely leave salt/ pepper/ oil etc - boring to have to buy for a few days so we left ours there for future guests to use! Incorrect information on listings on both VRBO and your website. There is NO sign post on main road showing tiny lane to cottage making it hard to locate exit off main road esp. as no phone signal on moor. Down lane - the sign says Cottage /Mill (NOT Yenworthy Cottage) so not completely obvious to turn down it as there are 2 or 3 houses ahead on the road- so in the dark it is not clear where to go if you are looking for a sign saying YENWORTHY COTTAGE when you first arrive. No old Lorna Doone gun over fireplace? or anywhere in cottage so why list it? I reset CH/HW timer in kitchen as still on old time! SIMPLE Suggestions: Only two big towels ( bath sheets) in the top bedroom. Other towels on the first floor were smaller. WHY? It would have been nice for our kids to have bath sheets too as they are 6'5'' and 6'1''. Put or build a Bench in the porch for walkers to sit on to remove muddy boots to save going indoors to remove them. Supply a Boot Jack to remove muddy boots/ or have a metal rail /scraper outside the porch - we had unbelievably wet weather with mud up to our ears so our hands got filthy removing boots, waterproofs etc. easier if we could pull off with a jack. Could also put up hooks in porch to hang wet garments on?

This cottage would have scored a full 5 stars on every aspect had it not been for some minor points which could easily be resolved, however that aside, it was generally clean, comfortable, dog friendly and good value. We arrived during a particularly cold and wet May, and although there was a plentiful supply of logs there were no other tools to light the woodburner. It would have been helpful to have known this in advance particularly as the website says that kindling, matches etc would be available. Despite other minor issues/irritations which we have raised separately, this cottage redeems itself in countless other ways. It is in the most idyllic location, with stunning scenary, great walks from the door and free access (as long as you close the gates) to all the surrounding farmland. The walk to Glenthorne Beach is a must as but be prepared for a steep ascent to the cottage on your return. There was a plentiful supply of hot water, great showers, comfy beds and a well equipped kitchen. Once we had located the heating thermostat and purchased kindling etc., the cottage did become warm and cosy (as per other reviews) in what was an unusually cold, miserable wet May. The cottage was very dog friendly with sturdy carpets and a well enclosed garden. It is also well positioned on the North Devon Coast between Lynton and Porlock both of which are beautiful. Overall with just a bit more attention to detail Yenworthy Cottage could be 'Excellent' rather than just 'very good' and we do intend to return hopefully at a time when the weather is a bit more hospitable.

The view from the left-hand side of the cottage is amazing. Lovely walks around the farm itself. Wonderful sunsets. The cottage is what you would expect of an older property. The kitchen is modern and very well-equipped with a table and chairs. The lounge/dining room is spacious. Bedrooms are nicely done and ours had lots of clothing storage. All very clean and enjoyable to stay in. Just beware that the stairs are narrow in depth and that the bedrooms on the second floor are steps down and steps up to the second floor bathroom - so if you are a bit wobbly on your feet, this is not the property for you. The property is perfect for dogs as the garden is fully enclosed. It was lovely to receive a daily visit from one of the very friendly and extremely well-behaved farm dogs. Just one final thing: if you enjoy being the only holidaymakers on your holiday property, also be aware that the right hand side of the cottage in the photo is inhabited by farm people so the garden is not private. Also, there are two holiday properties bordering the cottage which take large groups. This did not bother us however but it is worth knowing.

The lodge was spotless and super clean.
The rooms where of good size and the living area big enough. There is room for 2 cars outside you lodge but will get crowded when other lodges full. The pans in the kitchen arenât the best as scratched to bits to food sticks. The kitchen knives are poor and donât cut very well. The hot tub is just that, a tub that is hot as 70% of jets do work but there are very few bubbles and no force from the jets that work we reported it several times just to be told that we needed to turn the jets on. They where all on as water was coming out of them but with no power. We had no WiFi for 5 days and we reported this on day one just took 5 days to fix. They did eventually get it fixed but the strength was 3mbps not enough for our daughter to watch YouTube kids. I understand it may be week in rural areas but not powering one device is shocking. The lodge squeaks and when I say squeaks you canât move upstairs without waking everyone up you canât roll over in bed as floor squeaks you canât walk to bathroom or on stairs as itâs so loads everyone wakes up. The upstairs double bed rolls you into the middle and the bed squeaks as well The lodge is warm and cosy water is hot once warmed up. Caretaker was polite and did try to fix everything for us but in this day and age you would expect WiFi and a hot tub that worked fully.

The grey stone, picturesque cottage was full of beams, uneven floors & steep stairs, giving a taste of its history and 17th & 19th Century origins. Although the interior is less characterful. Its setting on Yenworthy Farm was perfect, lots of walks from the door to the sea or to beautiful views of the moors and coastline. It was a good base for the local towns of Lynton & Lynmouth, worth a visit, especially the Information Center. Porlock not far in the other direction, useful for the local shop & gallery. We visited Oare & Brendon, which also has a brilliant Information Hut, full of local history. Woolacombe Beach was 45 minutes away and definitely worth a visit too. The Ramblers Tea room nearby was a good tea stop. I would recommend you bring sturdy, waterproof boots, waterproofs, suncream and jumpers in all seasons as the house was chilly in August if we came home wet & tired.
