What our customers say about their holidays
Mr Hayes - Verified booking
We have just spent the most wonderful week at High Green Cottage which I discovered by accident when researching my family history in the area. I Googled High Green thinking I was researching a farm, when this lovely cottage popped up. The cottage is set on the village green in Langthwaite, Arkengarthdale. I believe it is made from two cottages knocked into one and was originally built in the 1600s but in the 18th/19th centuries was used by lead miners and farm workers, so lots of history there. The owners have done a wonderful job in making this cottage into a lovely home base for exploring the area. The living room is a nice size, with three comfortable sofas around a wood burning fire - very cozy and a dining table at the end closest the kitchen. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and there was nothing I needed that I couldn't find in the cupboards. There is a dishwasher and washing machine with detergent supplied if needed. There are four bedrooms, three double and one single, all very new and very comfortable. The single room is entered via an office, the desk by the window overlooking the fields and moorland at the back of the property - my daughter liked that room very much. Double room at the back has a small ensuite which is useful. Master bedroom overlooks the green and moorland which is stunning. All in all a fabulous place to spend some down time in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. The owners are very friendly and made the effort to communicate with us both before our visit and afterwards to make sure our stay was satisfactory. I am already recommending it to family and friends. There is enough parking outside for your car - at one point we had three cars parked outside with no problem. I have no hesitation in recommending this cottage.

Ghyll Bank Byre is one of 5 holiday lets on the site, 3 of which are part of an old barn.
Ghyll Bank Byre is the largest of the 3, having 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The property is accessed via an uphill single track road with passing places and has a very sharp hairpin bend, so not suitable for very large vehicles like motor homes. The view from the property is brilliant in every direction and cannot be faulted. We were very lucky with the weather in September. The property itself is very good but let down by a few things which is a pity, but in my view if these things were rectified it would be superb. The main issue is that it needs a deep clean and re-painting in places, which is surprising given that it would not have been used for most of this season due to Covid-19. Things like the table mats, plates and cushions need replacing as they look like they are cast offs from several years ago. The outside furniture is good and the quality of the furniture inside is good. In spite of our grumbles above we had a lovely holiday. There are lots of walks from the property and a great bakery and cafe on a small business park in Staveley. Booths supermarket is very good and easy to get to in Windermere with free parking for 2 hours. One other thing to bear in mind is that the WiFi was very patchy.

Heanor House is fantastic we were very lucky to find this break available.
The house is so characterful and large. We travelled as a family of 6 plus our daughters friend and it was so comfortable. The property is extremely clean everywhere and it has everything you could possibly imagine or require. The kitchen is very well stocked, the dining room has an array of games and books with a large table for everyone. The upstairs sitting room has a fantastic view. The rear yard is perfect for sitting out and there is an apple tree with lights in. Everyone in our party loved the deep freestanding bath. The owner of the property had left a personal note which we loved. There is nothing I could possible suggest to improve this accommodation. It takes a few minutes to walk into the village centre with places to eat and takeaways. We stayed here to be close to the Forbidden Corner which we highly recommend as it is a short drive. We also recommend the shawl walk - you access this near the town hall and there is an excellent park for kids and football field. Thank you Heanor House.

This property has to rate as one of the best we have ever experienced in nearly fifty years of self catering holidays. Beautifully renovated the house is spacious, welcoming, warm and so well equipped. The roll-top free standing bath was a fabulous indulgence after a long day out walking. Our eleven year old granddaughter was delighted with the single split level bedroom/office complete with walk-in wardrobe. The welcome tray is a lovely touch and reflects the care and consideration shown by the owners. We spent many hours in front of the log burner, playing boardgames and enjoying a drink or two in the evening. For those who enjoy the spectacle of dark skies and stargazing this is the place for you. Arkengarthdale and Swaledale are truly impressive places and the information from the owners regarding walks was outstanding. Our family ages range from eleven to seventy eight and there was some thing for everyone. We do not hesitate to recommend the property and we will certainly be returning.

Seven of us spent a short break over New Year at High Green Cottage. The cottage was everything we could have wished it to be. It was spotlessly clean, had everything we needed and was very cosy and warm. The cottage is in a very pretty, small village with two pubs within easy walking distance. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t always kind during our stay, but this just gives us a good excuse to go back! The scenery is truly stunning. We love walking and we were spoilt for choice. We got out and about during the days and spent the evenings cosied up in front of the log burner playing games. On New Years Eve, we cooked a 3 course meal and the kitchen was very well equipped and had everything we needed. We ranged from 10 years old to 56 years old and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and all agreed that we would love to come back….maybe to see it during the summer months sometime! I don’t hesitate to recommend this property, it’s a beauty.
