What our customers say about their holidays

What a wonderful cottage and beautiful surroundings to accommodate our family for a week of family fun and adventure!
As regular visitors to Yorkshire I can happily say this is the best location we have stayed in and the kids pretty much summed up how homely and well equipped the cottage is by asking if we could live there! The cottage is full of personality and character and a lot of time and thought has been put in to making it a welcoming place to stay and providing everything for an enjoyable week. The wife was happy with nice kitchen appliances, the kids were never cleaner having enjoyed many a whirlpool bath and the living room was cosy and comfortable, and for once we werenât trawling charity shops for DVDs to keep us entertained in the evenings with the kids asleep as the TV is smart and we were able to sign in to our Netflix account and enjoy our usual series with the WiFi speeds more than capable of handling everyday life! There is also a large amount of dvds present alongside board games and books for those who donât have younger children who retire to bed early! We were blessed with lovely warm weather during our stay and even more blessed with how lovely and cool the cottage remained during our stay, no hot sleepless nights and donât be put off if you are planning a stay at a cooler time of year, the fireplace in the living room has a lovely large log burner for cosy nights! So much to do in the surrounding area but I wonât cover this as half the fun is exploring and finding your own way, whether it be family activities, lovely villages and towns for a wander and a cream tea, Castles and ruins, hiking the moors or days at the beach! Just be assured that a mountain of leaflets and maps are provided and despite this being our 6th or 7th visit over the years to Yorkshire we still always find new places to explore! Thank you for a wonderful stay and we will most definitely be back!

A great cottage in a beautiful village.
The cottage is well appointed and spacious and really home from home. The owners were fantastic, and nothing too much trouble. Other than a pub, the village does not have a local shop, so ensure you take what you need, or buy essentials when you're out and about as there is nowhere to walk to for a loaf of bread or milk. However, our welcome pack from the owners meant we had plenty in! The lane outside the property is narrow, so if you have a very large vehicle or are a nervous driver, I would advise parking nearby. Other than to load and unload I parked my car on the adjacent road and never had trouble finding space. It was only 300 yards away, so not a big deal for me. It's a great base to explore the local area. The train station at nearby Darlington gets you North to Durham or South to York, so you can travel further afield. We liked the Mainsgill Tea Room on the A66 and Easby Abbey is worth a trip for the echo stone. You can park in Richmond and walk the mile or park in Easby itself. We were lucky enough to have beautiful sunny evenings, so met the neighbours and local dog walkers. It really is a serene part of the world and oh so quiet! Sykes were top notch with regard to email communications sending us information regards the property.

The cottage was everything the website and other reviews stated. It was fantastic for a 50th birthday with friends and family. It is ideal for large groups using all three properties but would be a bit awkward using shared facilities like the games room and enclosed courtyard if the three cottages were booked separately. The properties themselves were finished to a high standard, the beds were excellent, the bathrooms excellent and living areas very comfortable. The log burners were also great with plenty wood. The village itself is a short walk and has everything you could really need including a Chinease takeaway and pizza shop. One thing to note, there are two pubs but only The Blacksmiths arms is dog friendly indoors, The Golden Lion is not which was a shame as we had booked this for food on the Friday and had to change it to The Hotham Arms a short drive away. There is a easy walk just behind the cottage which is an old railway line. All in all the weekend was exactly what we hoped it would be and I would certainly recommend the cottages to other groups. The owners were friendly the two times I spoke with them in passing.

Very lovely cottage, downstairs a little smaller than appears on the photos.
Very well presented, a few bits of equipment missing (like large pan - we bought one) that you tend to find in cottages being rented for the first time, but lots of very nice touches including welcome basket. Lovely village, with lots of places to visit around within 5-20 miles. Garden/yard is in front of cottage and across very quiet road, however was not quite so convenient as having rear garden for the dog, not clear on the cottage description on the site. Shower in main bathroom, very low and not really useable for anyone over 5'8", however bath does have shower attachment. Overall a good stay and would recommend

The cottage was very clean, tidy and warm with plenty of hot water.
The owner left lots of manuals and instructions so we could easily find out how everything worked. Kitchen was well equipped - only negative in the kitchen was the saucepans, they have definitely seen better days! The towels were large and soft and fluffy. The bedding was soft and the beds were comfy. The location of the cottage was excellent to travel to all of the places we wanted to visit and there are lots of shops and stores etc in Driffield, including the very convenient NISA store that was pretty much opposite and stocks practically everything you need. I would definitely recommend this cottage
