What a wonderful hideaway!
Quiet, cosy, clean and comfortable with its own parking space and yet very close to the small shop and two excellent pubs in the village, with plenty of footpaths and cycling opportunities, including the Monsal trail, nearby. The owners, who live next door, were very welcoming - but not at all intrusive - and provided an exceedingly generous welcome pack. Much appreciated. Thank you! The little, private, courtyard garden and covered veranda are a fabulous addition to the property providing a quiet retreat in which to relax, either in the sun or shade, with plenty of seating and cushions provided. We stayed for a week in March and experienced the full range of weather from warm sunshine to snow. We thoroughly enjoyed soaking up the spring sunshine on the patio but the veranda was far too cold to sit in so I imagine it will be a gloriously cool and dry space to enjoy on a hot, or wet, summer day. We have stayed in many Sykes cottages, over the years, and have never been disappointed but this has definitely been one of the best. Despite making it a rule never to stay in the same place twice, I would love to return to this one! A word of warning for those less agile: there is a short, but very steep, road up to the property and uneven surfaces, through the courtyard garden, to access The Nook.

Amazing house and neighbourhood!
We were greeted with a warm, cozy house upon arrival with some lovely treats, waiting on the table. Outside, there's a beautiful old bridge with a gushing river passing through it and its just to the side of the property. On the opposite side, a pathway leads towards the river bank itself, where you can see ducks, trout and catch glimpses of Heron! My girls loved feeding them all!! Coop is just around the corner and eateries/ shops literally at your doorstop. Its centrally based and an easy walking and driving distance to places like Chatsworth, Bakewell and Matlock. The house is very cosy, immaculately clean and beds very comfortable, the hot tub is an extra bonus. The kitchen is well equipped and the conservatory is perfect for a morning cuppa! The owner came over to help with lighting a log fire and was very courteous, kind and accessible at all times. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Toll cottage and would love to come back again.

A lovely retreat to return to after walking for miles in this beautiful area.
Lovely big shower and bathroom, comfortable beds. The open plan layout downstairs was spacious and cool when the weather outside was scorching hot. Sylvia greeted us and gave us a tour and had left lots of useful toiletries and essentials, not to mention a luxury chocolate cake! A short stroll takes you to the little village shop and a couple of pubs for an evening meal and a cold beer. The Monsal Trail was a short walk, cycle away and lead to many interesting places if you're up for a steep climb or two. The Monsal Head ice cream wagon was so welcome at the top of the steps. I did hire a bike to cycle with my son - but had to buy a gel saddle cover to get me through the week! Perfect really!

The Nook is located in a quaint little town.
There are 2 lovely pubs within walking distance and the food at both was incredible. We seemed to be in a great location too as it did not take too long to travel to the destinations we wished to visit during our stay. The host Sylvia was lovely. We were shown around the property when we arrived and shown how to use the heating and the remote control lighting. The bread, cake, milk, snacks and a range of hot beverages that were present on arrival was a nice added touch as it saved us having to go groceries shopping after a long drive up from London. I couldn't fault the property or the host, we really enjoyed our stay here and hope to visit again real soon. Saba Ahmadi

A lovely place to spend a cosy family Christmas.
The cottage was very easy to locate and settle into. Very convenient village location with the local coop and pub on the doorstep. It was lovely being able to access the grounds of Chatsworth on foot. The house itself it well set up. Handy ground floor bedroom for elder family and comfortable bedrooms for us and the kids upstairs. Kitchen is well equipped (full Christmas dinner was possible) and space for sitting room, conservatory and dining room was perfect for our group. We did not get the benefit of the garden and jacuzzi, it was December after all, but loved seeing the river and ducks from the windows at the back of the cottage.
