What our customers say about their holidays

  • Linda - Verified booking

We loved Benllech - the little town has a good choice of supermarkets and takeaways and places to eat.

The Benllech pub does excellent food. Benllech beach is clean, sandy and great for paddling and swimming. There are toilets, parking and beachside cafes and a beach warden service some days. The bungalow was a short walk from the beach so in a fantastic location. The bungalow was clean and ready for our arrival. Keys were easy to find. Some wine milk and cakes left in the kitchen for us were a nice welcome. According to comments left in the visitors book at the property there is a long list of problems experienced by guests at the property which the owners do eventually put right but they react too slowly. We arrived to find a note in the garage saying problems with plumbing for washer so I had to struggle with collecting water from the washer in buckets to carry through the bungalow to pour down outside drain. We reported this to the housekeeping service but it was not resolved during our stay. The property is not as advertised in its listing. The garden now looks nothing like as nice as in the photos of the property on Sykes website. It states there is a utility room, but it is in fact a garage. The cloakroom is literally a toilet in a converted cupboard. The toilet seat in the main bathroom is very loose - this has been mentioned numerous times in the guest book feedback and the taps in the sink in the bedroom drip. We did fit 2 cars on the drive but it would be difficult to fit the 3 cars the listing says it holds. There are wobbly slabs, bricks on a low wall that are just placed on top of each other with no mortar and a huge crack in the concrete arch over the gate to the back door. This could be a super property with some money and some work to repair and improve both the inside of the property and the garden. We were rather disappointed overall in the property it was not up to the high standard we have come to expect from Sykes properties and it did not match up to its description and photos on Sykes website.

    This property is special.

The combination of the location (which is stunning and very peaceful) and the history, just make this such a special place to stay, its is after many years of hiring properties for holiday, my absolute favorite. I am sorry to say though, that whoever is managing the property on the owners behalf are letting them down. The L shaped sofa, and the mattresses in the lower ground floor bedroom are beyond their sell by date, one of the baths was not very clean (black sludge actually came out of the tap in the upstairs bathroom, went away quick enough) and there were no logs in the basket for the fire (it didn't get chilly until our 2nd to last night and only noticed then that there were no logs, it was outside of the time you could contact the housing keeping so we just went and got our own). This property is wonderful and it just needs that little bit of love and care to get it to excellent. I would of rebooked this property for next year, however, the price for the same time of year has gone up by over £600. Such a shame as no doubt myself and other people who have previously stayed here now can't afford it and with things just showing a bit of wear and tear it seems a little bit on the cheeky side but I guess after the pandemic profits are down. I have stayed at another property on the strait with awesome views and location and they are charging a similar amount but the property is exceptionally equipped with terrific beds, tv's in everyone rooms with Sky and Netflix. It feels that because of the properties location its felt that not too much attention needs to be paid to replacing things or offering more facilities because people will be swept away by the view. If you are reading this, it is a very special place to stay but don't expect 5 star facilities - this is more of a character property.

Had a great week at this cottage.

This is a lovely cottage, clean and comfy, bedding was quality, as were the towels. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped, although a bit basic. Could do with at least one smaller frying pan, a couple of tablespoons and a spatula. I was a bit worried after reading other reviews about the size and condition of the freezer. Do not worry about it, the kitchen has a new under counter fridge and there is an under counter sized freezer in the utility/garage. Loved the large cage area in the utility where you can leave your dog if you’re not taking them with you, thought that was a brilliant idea. I’ve seen the damage that dogs tend to do when left on their own in a strange house. The outside area is completely safe for the dog. I have a LLahsa Apso, she thoroughly checked the garden for escape holes and didn’t find any. I think the metal gate could do with some chicken wire over the base of it, a very small dog could probably get through it. There weren’t any black bin sacks to replace the one that had to be put out Tuesday night for collection on Wednesday morning. There wasn’t any information about when to put the bins out, or which ones to put out. Fortunately, I had my laptop with me, and I was able to check online. I also wrote down the days for the next year and pinned it to the cork board. As the previous reviewer has stated, the black bin was full to overflowing. Most people are happy to put the bins out, but they need to know when to do it, and have a bag to replace it with. Apart from the bin situation our holiday was a great success.

    Bit of a mixed bag.

Can't fault the views and the location, but the property needs some attention and more explicit details in the listing of how many steps there are both inside and outside the property. The place to park your car is on a slope, and when it snows or is icy, getting your car off the car space, onto the road requires two people to push your car (as we found out when trying to leave to go home...) Pros- the settees are comfortable, kitchen well equipped. Cons - no teatowels or oven glove provided, which was rectified when I rang housekeeping. Upstairs toilet flush was broken, we reported this to Menai holidays rep when they did a courtesy call on the 2nd day, no one came to fix it. The place to park your car is a nightmare in winter weather. A supply of grit would be helpful. The downstairs double bed frame is rickety. It's metal and every movement makes it clang. Sliding door to outside decking is temperamental- you have to sort of push upwards while you slide to close it or it gets stuck. Downstairs bathroom is very very cramped. Getting in and out of the bath for a shower requires quite some balance! Something that shocked me, but nothing the owners can do about, is the amount of sewage in the menai straits. Everyday there was toilet paper and waste floating by. Steps, steps, steps - inside and out. I hate writing less than glowing reviews, but it was a very mixed bag. The views saved the week, but the trying to get onto the road experience to go home was horrendous.

This is a good quality holiday home in a great location with stunning views.

Sadly, it is not being well-maintained. The frying pans were so grubby we had to go out and buy one to use during our stay. Outside on the all-important decking with the stunning views, the patio furniture is in a very sorry state. One 2-person bench on the upper level has completely collapsed; another 2-person bench on the lower level is on its last legs and about to follow suit. There are no tables on the lower decking and no patio umbrellas to protect you from the sun. Two of the four TV remotes were not working when we arrived. One needed new batteries (which we had to purchase); the other was kaput and had to be replaced. Neither of the property's two clocks were working when we arrived. The one in the kitchen needed a new battery (which we had to purchase); the large, ornate one on the stairs remained "out of order" throughout our stay despite us mentioning it to the caretaker when he came to check the TV remotes. One of the lamps in the lounge is broken and its shade is being held together with Blutak. Several lights in the property (inside & out) are not working and need new bulbs. The paintwork in the lounge needs re-doing. It has been badly "patched up" to disguise scuff marks and looks very shoddy. The woodwork on the outside decking is beginning to rot in places, and is badly in need of either a thorough spruce up (re-varnishing) or completely replacing. Finally, the washing machine and tumble dryer both need a thorough clean.
