What our customers say about their holidays

  • Confirmed Guest - Verified booking

Ty Cerrig is beautifully located and enjoys superb views. The overall layout of the accommodation is well planned and spacious. There were a few teething problems in the first few days (only four wine glasses and too few plates for seven people!), but these were dealt with promptly and efficiently. Our housekeeper was very helpful, cheerful and observed all Covid guidance. Ty Cerrig has tremendous potential and almost certainly had the wow factor when first converted. It now has a slightly forgotten air about it. The soft furnishings are shabby and well worn; not of the standard generally expected from Rural Retreats, but the most surprising aspect was the general air of neglect in the garden. As this cottage is on the famous Bodnant estate, it was a surprise to find a garden that had obviously been initially well planned and designed, now somewhat neglected and slightly scruffy. The patio area in particular would benefit from weeding and sweeping! This is a rural barn conversion, so a neatly manicured garden would be inappropriate, but a tidy, clean, patio area should be standard. Shrubs etc do not appear to have been tended for a long time. During our stay, the gas ran out! This resulted in no use of the cooker hob one evening and no heating or hot water. The tank was filled the following day, so the problem was rectified, but we found it curious that this should have happened. Surely this should be regularly checked to avoid running out of gas completely? Overall, Ty Cerrig is lovely and we had a good time there, but with a little more attention to detail and a minor makeover, it would be superb. We would stay on the beautiful Bodnant estate again, but might look more carefully at our choice of cottage.

The cottage is in a beautiful village.

The location of the village and the walks around the area are breath taking. We were concerned when we booked that there maybe noise from the pub, but this was never an issue even on Friday and Saturday nights. There is a wonderful golf club about a mile from the property with views over the mountains and out to sea which are amazing. Non members can use the course, but you need your own clubs. Overall the property is as you see from the photos. It was of the standard we were expecting and on all the surface areas you can see the property is very clean. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you could need. There is parking at the front of the cottage. On arriving we had to move a bedside cabinet. This revelled carpet moths and their larva. The property had an infestation of carpets moths. This spoilt our whole week, (we had to hoovered the whole house, but the hoover had very limited suction) we could not unpack, kept all our clothes in suitcases or took them to the car, in fear that we would take moth larva back to our home. Once home we spent hours hoovering our cases, shaking out all our clothes in the garden and then had to wash everything we had taken. The experience was very stressful and upsetting. We sincerely hope the owners replace the carpets. You can not morally rent a property with moth infected carpets. Once this issue is resolved the property is ideal for exploring this area of North Wales.

Lovely house which was exceptionally clean.

Ideal location in Cardigan - less than a minute to walk to the nearest cafes and shops. There is street parking outside which is handy for arrival and departure but the swimming pool car park was very useful as you can buy a weekly pass (£14.60 not £10.50 as listed in the description but still a bargain!) and there were always plenty of spaces. The swimming pool has closed down. Plenty of storage in the kitchen. Lots of things supplied by the owner should you need to borrow anything you've forgotten eg beach towels, picnic blanket, reading glasses. Lounge and dining area comfy but possibly a little small for our family of 5 (3 adults and 2 older teenagers). Sofa and armchair extremely comfy but the last one there missed out and had to sit on the bench seat (on the photos it looks like a sofa but it isn't) Bathroom on first floor a good size but no lock on the door. Bedrooms on this level were cosy but all had good storage and were very comfortable. Large bedroom on the top floor also comfortable. Lots of clean, attractive decor in all rooms which made the property even more homely and attractive.

Llecyn is a lovely house and perfect to get away from it all. The rooms are very comfy, the kitchen is very well equipped and the lounges are roomy and comfortable. The snooker room is excellent and the table is good. Hot tub is also nice. The location is ideal. 8 minutes into Aberdaron. the beech is sandy and large when the tide is out and the cliff walks from the beech are very nice (lots of up and down the cliffs). The Gwesty Tŷ Newydd does good food and good beer and has a terrace looking over the beech, 1st come basis for seats and dogs allowed on the terrace and the front room. Hells Mouth is also well worth a visit, park in Porth Neigwl car park and an easy 5 minute walk down to the beech. The Sun pub (Robinsons) in Llanengan is also well worth a visit on the way back... roads are narrow though. The Rivals (Yr Eifl) is a good challenging walk, we did it in the fog and rain so didn't get the views but still nice, some steep sections and minor scrambles. All in all a very good place to relax walk swim and explore this part of wales.

Capel Cottage is a beautiful Welsh cottage which was presented spotlessly clean and with a delightful welcome pack.

Views all around the cottage are stunning and amazing walks can be started from the cottage (one hour walk to Conwy over the hill) with spectacular views. We loved the outdoor spaces front and back which were peaceful with seating areas to relax after a busy day. The cottage had everything you need and nothing you didn't, we took advantage of the spice rack, coffee maker and ice cubes which was great. The bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept in and the sun room attached to the bedroom was a fabulous little space to play card games or read. Parking was never an issue and the pub next door was busy but never obtrusive. Only feedback to mention was no welcome information which told us of general house info. In addition the shower curtain situation was cheap and is not up to the standard of the rest of the property and needs reviewing. But I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others. We were sad to leave and are definitely planning on returning!
