  Stayed at Ellingham House over Easter weekend. Pros - location for visiting Whitby is really good (maybe 5 mins walk to the river) and property generally a good size/well equipped (although showing some signs of wear and tear). Cons - this may be churlish but property is "just a house", no "wow factor" such as a great view or a really special room to be in. Ellingham works much better as a base than a destination. Also, I will knock a star off for parking. Not the property's fault but the streets are very tight. When I arrived on Good Friday (admittedly a very busy weekend) I could not get parked and had to leave car miles away from house. If I was arriving in a big group/with many cars I would think twice because I wouldn't guarantee getting >1 car parked nearby.

  We thoroughly enjoyed the holiday and the house was fabulous.

  Loved the position by the river and as we had some decent weather it was wonderful to walk through the little gate in the back garden and down to the river bank and the dogs loved to paddle. Richmond is a great town and we also loved the circular walk to Easby Abbey through the woods and along the old railway track. All the bedrooms were a good size and as we were four single ladies it meant that three of us had our own en-suite and one of us had the bathroom for their sole use, wonderful. No waiting around for bathrooms and then there was also the toilet and sink on the ground level which was a blessing. We had an enjoyable day out to Barnards Castle. If I was coming to Richmond again I would definitely book this property again. Thank you

  We had a lovely time at the West End Cottage in Askrigg. The cottage is very well equipped. It has everything you may need on your holiday. The bedrooms are very comfortable. The bathroom is modern with underfloor heating. There's also wood-burner which was handy when we visited at the beginning of March. The logs and everything you will need for it was already there too. Tea, coffee and biscuits were a nice touch and made us feel welcome. The location is amazing with great walks on your doorstep. There are three pubs within walking distance serving delicious food and drinks. I truly recommend this cottage to anyone. My friends and I are already thinking of returning soon to this beautiful cottage.

  The house is beautiful. 3 couples stayed, and there was a bathroom for each.The beds were all very comfortable - important as one pair had just flown in from San Diego! Lounge with 3 large setters was perfect for us all to relax and catch up. We used all of the kitchen appliances, and the tables and chairs outside, as the weather, for Whitby in April was wonderful. We would recommend this property for parties of 8, which is the capacity as there is plenty of room for all. The only problem is the parking- which we were advised as being 'on street'. Which is correct, but it was not made clear was that it was only free on Saturday and Sunday - both cars got parking g fines on Monday morning ??

  The house is spacious, the kitchen well stocked with all that is needed for making meals, the white goods work well.

  It is comfortable, and the heating is efficient. It is ideally placed for local attractions, and countryside walks. Our only worry was the fact that three things should be stressed by Sykes Cottages re the property. Firstly, one car needs to be parked on the road. Only one car can be parked in front of the left hand garage. Secondly, there are a number of steep steps down to the cottage, plus a wooden bridge over a stream. The steps and bridge become very slippery when wet. Lastly, there are a number of steep steps up to the first and second floors. We found the cottage perfect for our stay, but would not recommend it for people with mobility problems, or people with young children.
