  This is the second time that we have stayed at Dodd Nook, and had been looking forward to a comfortable holiday.

  However, I would like to draw your attention to the following: 1. On arrival we found dirty cups in the cupboard and dirty cutlery in the draw. these had clearly not washed up properly. 2. Some of the crockery was chipped. 3.There was a dirty towel left in the bathroom with some dubious stains on. 4. The welcoming bunch of flowers were dead, and the loaf of bread out of date. 5. The floor under the table was was dirty with crumbs and dog's hair. 6. Only 1 tablet for the dishwasher had been left, and insufficient alternative washing-up cloths provided. 7. The settee was worn with potential holes covered over with a throw. We were quite happy with the upstairs of the property. Although the cottage was comfortable, I do feel that with a little more attention to detail, a good holiday would have been great ! We have booked cottages through Sykes on many occasions, and have not always found the cottages to be in satisfactory condition. I am unsure whether we will do so again.

  The property is lovely and well situated but we found it very cramped downstairs for 4 adults - 2 people actually went home after 2 nights.

  During the winter we expect to spend more time at the cottage and it just wasn’t comfortable for 4 to relax on an evening . I also feel the description of courtyard with furniture is misleading as it is more of a walkway . The beds were very comfortable as was the settee. Disappointing Christmas decorations and poor welcome hamper ( one loaf of bread !) despite reading comments about the wonderful welcome packs previous guests had received - especially difficult to swallow given we had paid a premium price for new year. The bathroom requires an extractor fan as it was too cold to open the window and when four people have showered there is a lot of condensation. Diffusers are a nice touch but all were empty! Internet did not work all week. Whilst furnishings etc are good and there are plenty of kitchen utensils plates etc I found the lack of attention to detail and care disappointing! Not the level I expect of a 4✔️ Sykes cottage.

  We had a great time staying in the Mistal for our holiday and hope to be booking it again for next year.

  The cottage is exceptionally clean and comfortable and has everything you could possibly need even poobags for our dog if needed. The owner kindly left biscuits and milk as well as a vase of flowers for our arrival which was nice. The property is central for coast and country and you can get to the border of Scotland too within a short drive. We were lucky with the weather too but the cottage is a real home from home should you require it in a village which is so quiet the children can play in the street. If you wish to get away from it all and live life in the countryside this is perfect but Alnwick is only a few miles away for all you might need. There is no garden at all here though so take note should you require dog space but plenty walks from the door.

  The cottage was generally clean and tidy and well-equipped.

  It was also quite quiet despite adjoining a through road. There was plenty of outdoor seating and the indoor heating was very efficient. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything required. Our only complaints were that two of the mattresses were very uncomfortable (small and middle bedrooms). In addition the mattress and cover in the latter were badly stained, disgusting and not really acceptable. During our stay the wifi was very poor and it was impossible at times to access streaming services. We were very thankful for the welcome pack which was a nice touch. On arrival the main TV would not connect to the internet and the owner was very quick to replace it and set up a new one.

  A lovely rural setting, the cottage is spacious with generous comfortable living areas, well equipped garden with lots of sitting areas.

  (If you have a small dog or one that likes to escape like ours it’s not secure). We were greeted with a very generous welcome hamper….much appreciated. The main bedroom is comfortable with a great walk in shower but the other two mattresses were a bit hard and lumpy. Lots of hot water and heating easy to control. There were marks on the bedding, a chipped mug and one of the kitchen doors hanging off. The 9am check out should be reconsidered as this is too early for families with elderly relatives. We mistakingly thought it was 10 am ( in line with all holidays we have had with Sykes) and were greeted by a very grumpy cleaner which was unnecessary as we were soon out of her way.
