  The cottage is lovely, and its location within the Main Street of the village was so handy, a 10 second walk to the shop, bakery, any of the three pubs.

  I managed to park the car within 100meters of the cottage each day too. Our morning walk in the valley to the Youlgreave books was blissful. My only negative is there is no sound proofing with next door, so at times it felt like they were in our house, not sure if they were renters too or local so appreciate it may or may not be a regular occurrence. There didn’t seem to be any bin bags which is no biggie as the village shop was 10 seconds walk away but blue recycling bin in the shed, obviously hadn’t been put out the week before us (as requested on the notice) so the bin was over flowing before we got there with mouse droppings in it. Again not something that can be helped. There didn’t seem to be any notice of what is recyclable or not in Derbyshire and what to do on check out apart from with the key. We striped the beds and put the used towels in the bathroom not a biggy just hope we did what they wanted. Over all it was a fantastic week and the cottage was really lovely just minor points which I am not sure the owners would have any control off but I thought worth mentioning.

  What a wonderful well-equipped cottage.

  We had a fabulous pre-Christmas break, the house was decorated, which delighted the grandchildren, and we played many of the board games in front of the log burner whilst the gale force wind whistled outside, but we felt lovely and snug. The beds were so comfy and the clothing storage was adequate for our family. We all enjoyed the walks along the river and popping into the local pubs each evening, we really felt welcomed by all the locals. We shopped in the bakery and the supermarket which were reasonably priced. This was one of the most well equipped cottages we have ever stayed in, we were able to cook and bake as the kitchen had every utensil you could possibly need. We had two doggies who regularly got muddy due to the December weather, but the set-up of the boot room entrance and the flagged floor helped us to clean them up easily . If this cottage draws your attention, book it, you’ll love it! Ps: despite having no designated parking space this did not hamper us in anyway, we always found a parking space, and we had 2 cars!

  It was a lovely cottage in a great location which was very peaceful.

  However despite information stating that the heating and towel rails came on they didn’t and there were no instructions. I rang the contact and advised that there are numerous comments in the visitor book stating the same issue and yet nothing has been done about it. We had to manually turn it on morning and evening and it seemed that if you tried to put it on outside ‘set times’ it didn’t come on. Really disappointing and not what you expect having paid over £600. There was an hour wait to call Sykes due to Covid so was unable to speak to anyone. Also there was no mattress protector which we only found out when we stripped the bed which is unacceptable in these COVID times. Also would recommend that people are advised to put everything in the dishwasher before they leave and cleaners unload with gloves so you know it is all clean. This was done at the cottage we stayed at prior to this and we felt very safe using everything.

  Accommodation was well prepared and clean.

  Master bedroom bed did not feel king sized and mattress is at the end of its life, storage space in that room was limited. The only large mirror in property was in the twin room so not accessible to all holidaymakers. Twin room good size and good storage. Lounge comfortable. Dining area good but a long way from the kitchen. Bathroom has a good shower. Kitchen lacked a few useful things, such as potato peeler and grater, and it would have been helpful if there was one more plate/bowl/glass than people. Surprised to find the heating on on our arrival (in mid August) although straight forward to turn off. Instructions as to what can be recycled in Derbyshire would be useful as would clear signage for which bin was which. Directions as to how to access the rear garden would also have been useful. Local eggs sold in the games room were tasty. We were amused by the resident goat's climbing ability.......!

  Really loved the cottage and the facilities and we will book again.

  It was so homely and with the handyman and his being around he helped us with a few minor problems. A few minor problems that could be added or fixed a Pizza cutter No logs or notice on sykes website to bring your own. The offer to order some inadvance on sykeswebsite would have helped. Postcode not correct as it covers big area. Sykes needs to modernise and Use just 3 words. No sign for the cottage on the road. Use bakewell retreat in Google maps as the cottage isn't recognised. Rang sykes emergency line asking for help but no one still has rang me back.Sykes this needs to be investigated. We spent over 1 hour looking for a cottage. Very obvious sykes haven't used their own directions to find the cottage. I have used sykes a few times but sykes advertisement and lack of knowledge of the property let us down this time.
